So whether real or imagined fear can sometimes paralyze us.
In his new book what are you afraid of facing down your fears with -- Doctor Jeremiah explores the top nine fears that hold people back from the peace that god has promised us doctor Jeremiah joins me now.
Thank you very much for joining us thank you for having me.
You know what we so fearful I didn't have all the emotions that are out there that we could -- that we can sort of -- -- an -- to hold onto why is it fear.
Well fear is as you mentioned is is about the future and we don't know the future.
If it gets us because of what we have heard that's happened others and then it begins to move ahead -- tell me one day.
She's every day would I let my children -- could get on the school bus she said I'm gripped with fear for about an hour.
Because I know all of the things that have happened in schools and she society to just ask god to help me with that because it just takes over my life.
So I think it's what we've heard about other things that have happened other people and if we're not careful.
But I think the enemy does it to us -- -- you know intellectually he's that he's the purveyor of -- While you know you can you highlight.
Other top players and they all begin with -- -- begins with the devil.
-- -- -- that's a good point hadn't thought about that when I should put that in the introduction of the begins with David -- we will go to -- -- -- -- is from.
It's what are there are fears disaster disease debt.
Disapproval danger depression -- we are.
We -- really this subject to the why.
A variety of.
-- we are in fact you know I wrote the book and I realized this I went back and read it after it was all finished.
That I experienced some kind of fear and almost every one of those categories that one -- -- -- -- my life.
And it's pretty obvious to me warned that.
Fears and new thing because.
The most often repeated injunction in the Bible does not love one another but fear not.
So almighty god must have known we were going to be dealing with this during this time -- Provided this encouragement from the scripture to help us they hope through the great equalizer -- is that.
Because sooner or later it touches everybody -- there's there's you don't get that.
You don't good bill from the cradle to the -- without visiting fear -- I'm a pastor and I blew live in the scriptures pretty much is what I do.
Several years ago I got lymphoma and you people ask me you know were you afraid like if your past you get a pass senators think.
And of course I was afraid I was and I'm not afraid of death but I did want to die and I was afraid for my family.
So -- -- just get this it's all I like to tell people if you're Christian.
Fear will -- you just don't let -- move in the well I think we -- have a -- -- point because sometimes you don't even recognize it as fierce now.
Well there's there's a muddy line between fear and worry and you know people sometimes call -- worry.
Worry could become your real quickly if you let it.
And I don't think there's ever been a time in history as far as our own culture is concerned when there have been more reasons for fear -- mean.
Their children and -- in terms of the terrorism -- all the things that can happen all the things that we know have happened that we know could happen.
In in them movie theaters in the schools in the churches for all all all -- nobody's exempt them.
If you people shoot up churches and we have -- You know I was in the ministry for 25 years before I finally had to start walking around with security guards -- right go.
They meet me at my car they're with me all day they take me back there you have it lets them.
Oh yeah people credible threats -- content we've had a two people show up with their guns under their sweaters and better go get him out and -- about.
One was an off duty cop -- Everybody is just in case so how -- you actually walked forward and not fear any -- the tagline of your book is.
You know facing down your fears with faith how do you turn fear -- to face.
Well you know what and let me tell about one of the fears I -- a long time ago and how god help me because it's pretty much summary of how I -- this.
When I first started -- years ago I had young kids and wanted to get on the airplane and -- get ready for takeoff I would have a sort of thanks to my heart overrule what if I don't make it back and -- my wife of these children.
One day somebody gave me a little saying and I -- inside my Bible it's very biblically based and here's what it says.
God's man in the center of God's will is immortal until god it's done with him.
And I realized that my life was in the hands of almighty god.
That as long as I lived in his will and walked with him.
As long as he wanted me on this -- I was going to be here and when it was time for me not to be here he would take care of everything in my absence so.
I think it comes back to our faith in god and our knowledge that god is good and that he.
He does all things well.
-- you can shed some light and equivocation on a much.
Views and the views the phrase from the Bible with -- award -- beginning of wisdom and a lot of people think that means I have to be afraid of the items that.
Your last chapter really focuses on what that actually means and how that can help you work through this.
You know I tell everybody the first nine fears in this book you should avoid but the last initiative race because it is a good thing to fear god.
And you know for many years as a pastor when people would ask me what does it mean to be if you're gonna I would say all.
It's not afraid fear it's reverend -- you know B&B and reverence of god.
But I begin to realize -- I studied it for this book that I wasn't giving quite accurate information because.
Know the fear of god is very much a president the issue in the scripture the first time the word fear appears in the Bible is when Adam -- -- A walking in the garden -- -- of sin and -- it's coming down to walk with them in the Bible says they were afraid.
And I wrote in my book they weren't just in reference of -- the worst stone cold afraid because they have -- violated.
The only restriction got it -- So they were afraid.
Because they were in all god they were afraid because they knew they -- the holy righteous god who now they were -- they were gonna stand before him.
I think people who asked me all of the countries have travel Alaska here's what's going on with America is there any hope of what's wrong with our nation and all that.
I don't know all the answers that one thing I do you know this nation has lost its fear.
We've to have a healthy -- respect for god no matter what denominations we happen to grow up the end and we respected other people.
And their relationship with god and today.
It seems almost lost.
Wow -- of the book is called.
Facing down your fear is what they know the book is called what are you afraid yeah that's true that's really Kate what are you afraid of isn't -- of it's not garden.
You think that's fusion -- somebody told me one time if you fear god the where you shoot you never -- Withdrew with a -- is -- what are your what are you afraid of facing down your furious with faith -- David Jeremiah thank you very much for being on a spirited debate your welcome -- you for having me absolutely and thank you all.
