Welcome to fox car report -- this week we are live from the Monticello motor club Monticello New York -- favorite places to go private auto racing circuit here.
Emotional New York is the clubhouse and garage right here the reason we're here is to check out some jaguar cars.
This course is the new jaguar XJ sedan and between twelve XFR sedan now you know usually when you -- luxury sedan.
You get free scheduled maintenance maybe roadside assistance that sort of thing but you -- these -- are versions of the jaguars can also get this turn over here.
It's taken part in the -- our performance academy.
Is a high speed performance driving school it one day and if you about what these cars could come up with here spent a day -- the track with some professional racing drivers we're going to be talking to them.

Jaguar drivers feel like the performance -- like delusions back to sports sedan.
But this puts them on the track as well as there's -- new experience for a lot of rumors that something.
That they're expecting from when they buy jaguar.
Wolf for most of our owners this is the first time they've been on a racetrack like you said people by jags -- they're beautiful they are high performance cars.
But most people including our own customers and don't realize just how capable the vehicles are.
Yeah they are not just high horsepower but technology Layden.
Really high performance vehicles and you could experience that out here on a track in ways he could never do on a public road your cars all powered by a different versions of your five liter V8 engine up to 510 horsepower in these.
And here -- the United States not -- -- pleases you actually can take full advantage of that legally other than going to a track -- exactly short burst of speed up to 65 miles an hour but dot.
At the track he knows depending on where we are in the country -- you can actually take the start of 255.
Miles an hour and experience what that feels like.
Again you can't do that on public roads that's why we use closed courses like this.

To catch the South Florida market and we go out to Las Vegas.

You know in a lot of ways that we are a much more independent English company today than we had been for the previous 1015 years.
It really is invigorated us there -- huge supporter of us.
And really were doing programs exactly as we want to developing new products the way we want to and they've given us the freedom and the support to do it a little more hands off.
Absolutely you know they are fantastic parent company one of the big differences is -- is a conglomerate -- corporation.
So we are an independent part of a large group as opposed to being.
A small part of a very large Ford Motor Co.
afforded wonderful things forced the cars you see here today.
Near the initial development of them came under -- ownership.
And we have them to think for -- the fantastic cars we have today but going forward Todd is giving us the opportunity to some very exciting.
New products.
Later this year we're gonna launch the XKRS.
Which is a 550 horsepower version of the XKR that we have out here today.
Really -- much harder -- car.
Much faster and again taking us to a place the -- hasn't been a very long time this 510 horsepower really isn't that much anymore as.
Well it's more than any of us can use on up on the road on a daily basis but in today's automotive luxury world more is better you showed -- -- That -- -- the CX 75.
Plug in hybrid super car that's a big change in the supercharged.
VA -- we're going to be seeing more that type of technology trickle down throughout the -- -- over the coming years.
Well we have announced that we are actually going to put the CX 75 into production.
So we will be bringing out a plug in hybrid super car and that is the first sign of a new way of going to business.
-- -- Cars are here right now Louis facilities up special drivers official -- Presents the XJ came out last year this is the 2012 version of the except little bit different than the -- model which we got on the track today.
Goes until September to -- some of the changes to this car.
Dynamically that 2012 XFR is virtually identical to the previous year it's some style changes it's a much more aggressive front and rear end treatment to the car.
And that actually all serves a purpose there are additional radiators to go on to the supercharged cars to aid in cooling so it is all for a reason -- also there's some new electronics inside.
The top stereo now it's been bumped up to a 12100 -- Bowers and Wilkins system so really.
-- about the best you can get in a car today.
So mostly cosmetic a lot of electronic changes could remember the thee are only launched in 2010 so this is still very fresh product jaguar.
Pelosi that traditional Jack -- starlink for quite some time this is one of the first cars really embraced a new jaguar look some people you know the title you know you -- -- that -- -- -- -- was all about.
But at this point do you feel that the market -- more importantly your traditional customers are British in this are you finding new.
Customers with us in the old guys rather just either used -- -- from the 1980s.
No one of the great things is -- when you look further back in our history our cars were all loving the most modern car when the type launched in 61 it was revolutionary when the original XJ launched in 1968 it was revolutionary.
And I think that we've gotten back to that and making cars the truly do break the mold.
And by doing that you keep your traditional owners because they like things to be stylish and contemporary but you bring in a lot of new blood which is great we're seeing much younger owners.
Yeah we're seeing people -- in and BMW's and Mercedes and Lexus and -- that we hadn't seen for quite sometime so really has reinvigorating the brand brought a lot of new younger blood to it.
Without pushing away the traditionalists but get a lot of track days -- until the jaguars don't attract gays is this something you wanna see more of -- follow orders that not as important to the jaguar image.
No it's absolutely important to our image because I guess that not only are we -- brand of luxury and style we are brand of high performance.
And by bringing customers out to these events we're teaching them that they can take their car out on the track.
So hopefully going forward as -- and attract these you will see more cars more XKR's more except ours.
And again the XKRS -- comes out later this year is absolutely designed to be attract car.
Number one of those here for me today -- if we have one in the north and North America at the moment and it's at a show in Canada.

You don't say it isn't it is a you know these these cars are are pretty much animals in disguise you know it's it's a street car and it's built for -- -- purpose obviously.

Their race car driver and getting into these cars is it easier to move those skills down to the street car or.
You know stuff that these people here -- -- here today does that translate to getting into an actual -- Absolutely translate them get in a race car but.
-- sure it's it's our it's everyone of the driver and driving instructors abilities out here in a race car that makes that makes his transition much easier.
Into a sedan with little closer to -- -- here -- -- the fun of these are great they sound.
Not quite as not a sprint car but -- -- have agreed to -- -- All that they have a great exhaust note you know it's it's it's a five liter supercharged V8.
Slow you know it's got you know four exhaust pipes come out the back you know also it's it's the truth -- -- back -- of eight to four and a into the back and that just makes for an outstanding sound actually.
Will we were in homestead Miami and this last trip that we were down there they.

And this is one way we can give back to this man and and trying to help them out because.
You know it's it's really it's a tragic thing to see you know but at the same time.
Chris and I can hopefully go out there and do a good thing and raises awareness because if we could -- here.
For Huntington's disease -- cure Parkinson's disease we cure alzheimer's disease from this.
Schizophrenia.
Any any of these degenerative neurological disorder so it's very important close my heart so -- scared.
You -- be fielding a car sponsored by the organization or what exactly can play around.
That's what we're working on -- were looking to find the funding to underwrite the program because if we can find the -- to -- the program a 100% of the proceeds.
That we raise -- through the racing -- for will go.

The HD SA which is a Huntington's disease society of America and they also support and we also support UCLA.

With with all the blessings we got we you'll more we could go out there and they get this -- -- fountain and and go racing as well.
-- good good luck with that and I'm gonna ask you you know just aside from the fun aspect of what what's it like grown up at Andretti and it's it's -- That's experience I can think -- insisting good cars I would imagine access to.
Good cars a lot of traveling.
-- million meet great people motor sports.
The best thing about motorsports from any other people and and be around them -- whole life and be exposed to the the wonderful people have been whether they've been.
At the top tiers of being a celebrity or or just the person -- -- -- -- you know it's this everyone has that same persona.
In motor sports naslund you know makes agree I don't think it was any different than grown up in your family.
It was a little differ in any.
Get the start racing and nine years old -- at the inevitable.
But you know as far as a family activities you know -- -- close knit family got a great relationship with my parents and and my Brothers and sisters and and that's.
And I think that that transpires in and really truly any any great American family has that same ingredient.
And we're just very blessed that that we've had a lot of success and our sport.
And that's just brought more attention so it's it's it's been a great ride in and I'll take a second of it for -- to make it -- this year.
I live -- Indy so.
I kinda did in did in in all I'm I'm I'll pour spectator this is a race of the work in my whole life to get to I'm not done.
By any means recovering from an injury and and and -- stronger better.
And I'd I'm trying to make the hundredth anniversary of the -- running at this here's -- hundredth anniversary I want to make the hundredth running of the Indianapolis 500 the -- so here's accurately.
And five years so it'll be I think it's that's when he twice sixteen or -- seventeen there.
Or things get pulled over by cops in the -- for Sweden and the guys isn't forty -- you are Mario Andretti.
But no it's ever happened leave it's happened to my -- -- -- figure that so but nine it's it's funny nose sometimes some.
You get pulled over and sometimes a police officer look at that name and say you know you should know better it could and sometimes I get that you got pulled over your uncle your -- -- your brother your cousin and they're really nice to me so.

You one time had the record for the fastest speed and Indianapolis 232.
Miles an hour I mean does your heart even start beaten when you're -- doesn't exactly this.
Well believe it or not is you always trying to find the limit its particular cars that would limit of that car with 230 -- miles an hour.
The limit of days is obviously a bit different especially in the wet so it's always the same talents you know whatever car whatever conditions you're driving on images finding that limit of -- car and trying to keep it there without going over.
Racing cars change a lot over the years.
Luxury performance cars have as well communities every what do you think about the cars today they almost too easy to drive fast or is it just taking it to that -- well now it's it's again is -- what was said obviously that technology keeps getting better than because of that the limits of the cars keep getting tiresome is just as hard finding -- -- of that current the next level.
These are geared dinky little -- super sports cars these -- luxury cars but didn't go pretty fast as well.
I'll what are some of the key elements on the XK in the except that allow them to be able to be driven on -- right there.
He's amazing remain elevated the end in -- whatever this suspension on that they rear differential is what's -- -- really all that -- -- have that technology with -- Stability control C stands on the breaks his stance and because really is hard to believe that you bring him out of they.
-- -- by as they -- without doing any modifications to them.
And you can drive him of this speeds that we drive more on the race cars is really quite remarkable there's more technology in these cars than some of even for -- -- cars you drove twenty or thirty years ago.
There is send varies even more thing -- as he had done in the Formula One cars of today because of the regulations.
So really -- out of these cars.
And again we're we're trying to make the most safest possible for people to drive him on the street and yet again with all the performances that it has on this safety features that it has.
They really are very very safe on the street.
Back when you raced especially -- earlier days is pretty dangerous to be race car driver -- -- she did pretty well I think for yourself defecting is still here.
Today.
But.
Until it was like to drive one of those old Formula One or Indy cars -- -- had a stick shift it didn't have -- throwing -- -- breaks.
You know -- basically your.
Your feet with a crush back -- I mean was this -- -- -- -- just had to get out of your head and you say I'm driving an innocent man open a -- No because that way that you looked at it reset all my guys our cars there's so much faith safer than those guys that -- drivers were driving ten years before me.
And I think that will continue to be this same I think in 1015 years were -- -- -- I -- believe those guys were driving those cars in 2011 because the 'cause will be that much safer so at -- time we felt that because that we have were extremely safe -- -- has.
Just the way of progress and that this is a driving academy we're learning new skills hear about drive and as far as the race cars were concerned are the skills today that the guys have the same ones that you had back then where is the skill set changed over the years as well.
No I think this kills themselves the basics herald as saying you you basically have a race -- and you have to prime that limits and tried to getting -- go through that corner as quickly as possible without scrubbing as my speed etc.
etc.
so those are all the same.
Then obviously with the different thing nausea and they on the machines than it all changes and -- you may have to change your driving styles a little bit.
Obviously can -- -- -- break a lot later into the corners and get on the power sooner.
But that's something that as a driver uses get a good feel from you when you check them on of the the level of great that you have and -- you can take it from their -- Really think -- all the same this is this feeds get a little bit higher.
Back when -- driving an -- the eighty's and ninety's open wheel racing was racing in America that was the big deal.
NASCAR's over I've taken it over the years out of the IndyCar is having kind of -- rebirth you think you're doing a good job over there.
Absolutely I think they'd -- thing that hurting -- they're raising as a whole was displayed when you know they IRL and they on this -- -- split happened.
And then we lost a lot of the fund based.
Now they've been together for three years now we have an unbelievable Indianapolis 500 this here.
Game was a -- -- 100 the anniversary and the race itself was really competitive so.
I think IndyCar Racing is back on their -- on the way up again.
No you're racing for you at least over way over -- sister -- but you're doing some offering.
I do a little bit of I'm not a lot but I do use very trying to do they have the Baja 1000 every year is my seventh year that I've done and -- and it's one of those that.
Every year you -- diseases -- I'm never doing that again then you have a sermon when you for dead end.
How much how much stuff for -- whether they thought if that's the end result days and -- -- is quite an accomplishment so.

24 hours -- -- like that in the little one and a half hour to hour Formula One and IndyCar races used to drive.
Absolutely and and the funny thing is that I never really did any of that torn -- raises driving -- I it was is that thing.
They're so long but then after being involved in about 1000 them being IndyCar -- did ten or twelve hours without getting out you said.
I just one of four hours when you just do -- two hours stand and then get out of the car for a few hours and -- in.
It probably wouldn't be so -- but it just never happened and they have the energy drinks these days you have -- back in a result coffee the very guy you realized his underdog Colombian coffee.
And I -- that's a very.

It's still the -- -- you're one of the few Americans have won that race yes yes you know I came off.

Finish at Indy 500 minutes and -- -- -- when those should've would've could've but it was it was a great race and then -- back to have two weeks later -- when in the 24 hours of global.

Doing what only one other person's done and that's when Indy 500 and -- along the same here which is AJ -- And I say well premium wherever is that finished second in unity and no one's going to throw them on the same -- -- be positive -- there is -- -- good there was -- -- today at a time -- it just doesn't seem -- there was that long ago.
Karzai -- school like this let me escape you see a lot of different kinds of drugs you've got a lot of different kinds of driving you see a lot of different kind of drivers coming through these kind of schools what's the biggest mistake someone -- not a race car driver makes when -- -- -- track your car.
And it.
The biggest mistake cases is just not really being smooth.
You know not not -- the car can and do what it wants to do when they wanna -- in the current ones do.
Can anyone -- when you come off throttle you wanna be smooth applications on the breaks your smooth inputs with the hands and stream of.
The -- were you look.
In the getting back on the throttle and you know it's it's.
It's something that.
Everybody -- they drive vehicle every day of some form you know or or every of the day or so -- but everybody.
Grows up in the drivers' lives tend to drive.
And then.
You know if it's surprises me how many people out there really don't.
You know understand.
All the dynamics in the car another car works and and and learned to be smooth and being relaxed you know known known what's going on around your all the time you know.
And you drive on the freeway -- should have the -- adjusted so you -- you know although you're fearful.
View is always forward you should know what's happening behind -- at the same time.
Most people these days learn how to drive playing video games PlayStation Xbox do you think those games -- Good or are bad for -- Germany victor.
Negatives as far as skill set is concerned it.
Well like they knowingly -- noted that you know for driver that and so on they they spent a lot of time.
Do in the video games and simulators are actually in real time on the street I think to a point he knows certainly.
Is certainly you know it is so good now that it's it's so realistic.
That it does to a point you know keeps you comfortable relaxed and knowing all the rules of the road but still.
You don't get that field and in the feel as well we're doing that here today we're learning how do we.
How to control that way when -- transfers from side to side when you step on the -- or from high speed.
Breaking earned a slow speed you know cars pitch into the front -- when it's happening -- squad at the rear.
Entering your learned how -- how does it take to control that feel bringing you don't get that and vineyard.
Games now we've obviously got to racetrack here we'll send a couple of handling tracks and refrigerate and small -- -- learn some of these skills not everybody can come ordered schools not everybody can necessarily.
Get access to place -- they could do that sort of thing.
Purdue on their own sort of pick up at least general sense of where -- talk about.
I mean you know not breaking any laws you know I mean certainly and we you know we we do stuff like -- a small -- noble.
Or we go on a small figure -- -- we're going around comes in it's -- you know it's in a parking lot of system -- a -- patch of pavement with some code set up.
In -- you -- you can you can drive the car around those cones and at a slow speed.
But you're getting the weight transfer you're -- -- affected so it'd be -- to.
Achieve what you feel in a parking lot of going around cones and a public -- -- -- three times as fast so so you know certainly.
In a parking lot going around some -- -- you know couple.
Couple bear years -- -- you get the feel good that the balance of the car what goes on but I I think that the most important thing is your eyes.
You know as we get older guys tended to to drop to look down people as -- -- -- them under the car look at that -- the car.
And it's not about that it's about looking out you know if you -- the further -- you look.
The slower things are gonna come towards you.
So you don't have -- say like in the Indy 500 you know like go into 130 miles an hour -- the front straightaway.
You know how do you see things what's going around it going that fast.
Well it's because we're looking way ahead.
You know where look and as far -- as we can look.
And then as things come to us and it's it's you know were ready for for.
-- for -- one of those are where drivers they got to do just about every kind of driving oval tracks.
Endurance racing that sort of thing which which what was the most challenging for.
Well I think camera Bernard drag me out the Baja 1000 nervous last November and and that was sent and I never done you know I mean.
You know we dreamed a thousand miles ever heard and I did there -- all off road in the -- and all that that that was that was challenged and not only.
-- -- but physically talented.
But you know between Indy car racing sports car racing.
NASCAR racing.
It's all get it -- -- is on challenges.
I think when they really comes down to -- just confessed to being with the team.
That is really well prepared -- the issue that that surrounds it takes to get the job done it like any football team or basketball team.
You know some teams lacked a little bit more than other teams and those teams they have their stuff put together they they do -- -- -- -- I hear more about Bob these days it sounds like professional drivers -- go do that just become addicted to it immediately because it's a different entices you reject me 24 hours.
Off road public grows done some of it's actually on some highways you've got cars and animals though on the throws with your -- -- -- You can't well in in in those guys that did behind that are good at it they'd like to come -- endurance -- whoever -- -- the Travis -- -- stuff so I think.
I think when you really had a master one sport then then you want to venture out and try.
Different things that workers -- -- the -- thousand this is is it's it's good races a lot of fun and you know so is that 24 hours -- -- -- of the Indy 500.
