-- numbers are surging.

And just about an hour from now Minnesota congresswoman Michelle -- -- will make it official.

Here's a live look in beautiful Waterloo Iowa this morning that of course is Michelle -- hometown.

This is the place she has chosen to make it official that she is hoping to be the GOP candidate for president United States they get the -- everybody MI can account here in America's -- Asia and I'm Greg jeered and for Bill Hemmer there is a new Iowa poll.

And it's actually predicting that Bachmann will be a major force in the Republican race look at -- yes coming in a very close second to the front runner Mitt Romney in the latest of Moines register poll.

-- -- political correspondent Carl Cameron joins us -- he's in Waterloo this morning of course with an update on what we can expect there -- -- I -- Martha black -- -- -- one register poll that shows that this is essentially a two person race with Mitt Romney and Michelle -- Really changes and raises the stakes for Michelle Bachmann for this announcement she essentially.

Joins the race officially.

As one of its front runners and as such comes a tremendous amount of scrutiny and a heck of a lot of work to maintain that type of an advantage there will be a six month.

Campaign -- -- -- picnic here in Waterloo where she brought friends and family from around the country -- from around the state.

She was born in the first in the nation caucus state of Iowa here in this town of Waterloo and already she was looking forward to protecting that lead and organizing the caucus goers by.

Try to get them psyched up about an upcoming straw poll that takes place -- -- a very major point on the campaign -- about two months from now is with us.

You may have -- heard that there's a straw poll coming up an August.

That's not a small the -- that's up big deal.

As it's a big deal for her to use that sort of speech before her announcement.

To work on the organization here Bachmann starting this race out in a statistical tie with -- Mitt Romney who has gotten all the attention.

Now that attention will shift initial share it a lot of scrutiny for a candidate her first day formally in the race one of them.

Can't talk a little bit about the energy -- the -- is on the ground anticipation of this sad big moment for there it out.

Hometown girl well that they are.

-- Iowa and Iowa Republicans are psyched about this in fact when we first came out saw her on the campaign trail as an explorer earlier in the year.

It was clear that -- more than just about all the rest of the field.

Has the ability like this crowd up now it's a smaller crowd here Monday morning.

So it's not going to be a big big rally for this announcements we certainly not as big as what was yesterday.

Before the big picnic that she had -- -- about 500 people last night we walked around her old neighborhood weather.

She -- she comes she comes back to Waterloo where she was -- to talk about her sort of modest roots and did -- quite some length yesterday in front of her old home.

If you compare herself to not Ronald Reagan but another pretty famous Republican who spent a lot of time on California -- -- But what I want to know was just like John Wayne -- from Waterloo Iowa that's just kind of scared that I -- to it's really about.

Not being ashamed of America -- racing America loving America sacrificing.

For America.

We were very modest -- people.

And she's emphasizing that she will not forget her modest roots shall not forget her conservative politics.

But now that she comes into this race essentially tied for first place.

Shall probably moderate a little bit the temple of her campaign and her rhetoric because she now has the front runner status and -- -- need to pick fights they'll be coming at her -- Fascinating.

These are really getting revved up Karl thank you so much --
