And finally actor Gary Sinise who was in countless holiday weekend to launch a foundation which -- provides support through entertainment and education.

For veterans first responders and those in need mr.

-- welcome to FOX News Sunday thanks for having me.

Something the folks may not know is that you started your moment in supporting our military decades ago long before everybody came to know you as lieutenant -- in the Forrest Gump movie.

What what are they did you back then to get involved.

Home.

Various things have veterans in my family for one night.

On my wife signed her two Brothers served in Vietnam so back in the early eighties I I spent a lot of time with them is talking about their experiences -- Have Vietnam veteran -- In the Chicago area I got very involved with the Vietnam veterans groups.

Through my theater company I -- theater company -- Steppenwolf and we started veterans programs and that kind of thing then then.

I didn't -- actually played a Vietnam veteran of forest Gump and I got involved with the Disabled American Veterans -- played a disabled vets got contacted by.

Not actively involved with them and then along came September 11 some you know I just dove into our active duty folks and and and trying to help them.

Serve their needs and then draw attention to what they were going from.

We'll just reading about all of the things that you have done in the -- arguing and planning to do it's exhausting -- obviously a passion for you that you care about folks.

Who are serving our country who have served.

You're launching a foundation that does many different things what's all about.

Well.

Like you say have been very very -- too busy over the years and having.

Participating in programs through other organizations having gone to.

-- help raise money for these organizations that are doing some good things for our troops and military families.

I just and entertaining the -- found myself kind of that a certain.

Limit how much I can actually have -- things and do things.

So Heidi ramp up from there aren't you know when he can't be any connection anywhere else throughout the year so I decided to create -- sent a team Gary -- foundation.

In order to be able to point people towards.

Programs that are working out there that I've interacted with over the years of that I continue to support.

Also to create programs to continue to create programs like scholarships for veterans and that wounded -- support and that kind of thing.

Top and to be able taken additional funding because a lot of this stuff I do cost money and sometimes numbering in sponsored resolve donate myself all fun things myself.

I put a lot of my own financial.

Piano didn't luckily I've got a successful television show so I've been able it.

Funnel some of that money into these good programs but I want people to know that there's a helpful way that they can.

Support what I'm doing and that's true then he's bored me I support the other folks that are out there doing good good things and help on the troops.

And among the things you've done it forty plus tours of the US so and other groups have abandoned lieutenant Dan band you travel around.

There's a new documentary coming out on July 4 that chronicles a lot of what you do but it highlights the men and women -- you going performed for and and their service.

I thought I was really touching and one of the clips there's a young soldier who says it makes us feel like someone believes in us when you show up and perform.

Well I'm I'm.

And I I get such great reward kind of being able to do -- it's it's nice to know there's something you can do to help and then one of the one of the motive enters this script and remembering what happened to -- Vietnam veterans when they came home from war -- remember.

When we start deploying to Afghanistan and Iraq I wanted to make sure that when our troops came home.

-- when they were in the hands in the field that they knew that they were appreciating that people are paying attention to what they're doing so.

I started to go out there and perform for them.

-- have been doing this over and over many years a friend of mine heard about it Jonathan floor is a filmmaker.

He asked me if he could come and documents some of it and now they put this wonderful documentary together -- lieutenant Dan band for the common good.

For the common good -- means you meet a lot of people that are doing a lot of good things in the movie.

And -- you go to LT Dan band movie dot com July 4 for thirty days you'll be able to put in four dollars and watch the film.

-- one out of every four dollars generously as being donated by the filmmakers to the years and -- foundation.
