It appeared over ground zero in the days after nine elevenths.
A thirty foot long flag meant to be a symbol of hope.
But it fell apart.
And that upset volunteers who were picking up the pieces of Twin -- it became an issue with some of the construction workers after a couple of weeks because of this.
Deterioration that it was suffering.
By blowing in the wind against them collapsed scaffolding.
So construction manager Charlie -- had a clean up crew take it down in October -- 01 there were a lot of pieces missing.
That was shredded pretty good.
He put it away for seven years Charlie was going to have the flag honorably retired.
Instead he and his friend Jeff -- -- decided to let America bring old glory back to its former glory.
The national 9/11 flag is on a fifty state journey.
We're letting local service heroes and communities around the country spits it back together.
The journey started when Charlie and Jeff went to Greenburg Kansas in 2008.
To help folks they're rebuilding after a devastating tornado.
A group of women taking flags that survived that storm and using them to patch the ground zero flag back together like -- good old -- quilting -- But they're going to be so many things will never be -- and I call him.
But this -- home today to stars and stripes looking less like who quilts and more like its original -- Matching patches of fabric from other retired flags now hold the red white and blue together.

Still here and to me it's getting more beautiful every day.
That flag is in North Carolina this fourth of July the 35 state it's visited.
Fifteen more to go along with the District of Columbia before the tenure remembrance of the attacks of nine elevenths.
Once it is fully restored it will be part of the permanent collection of the 9/11 memorial museum.
