-- -- Publicly privately never been -- -- and frankly not close to an agreement.

Well that was house speaker John Boehner earlier today denying what seemed to be.

A deal that was in the making between the president and and John Boehner.

A deal that now has completely collapsed and does so have the talks between the president.

And -- although the president will be speaking to all of the congressional leaders of 11 AM tomorrow in.

The White House time -- to bring in our panel Steve Hayes of the weekly standard Charles Lane from the Washington Post.

And syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer.

Folks we've obviously for the first half of this show.

-- hearing just one side of this argument the argument from the -- does one thing that struck me.

In the deal that the president talked about Steve He talked about one point 65 trillion dollars.

In cots and one point two trillion dollars in revenue increases.

Now most of these deals have been three -- four -- one.

Spending cuts to revenue increases this was almost 5050.

Right which is I think suggests that when He was making the argument that Democrats were willing to do all these difficult things and Republicans were the ones who -- that that was not as -- appear on the surface but I mean this was that it could quintessential President Obama.

Blame shifting I think it was it had sort of an Alice in Wonderland quality to it saying I happen to house Democrats -- Democrats willing to make all of these tough choices.

House Republicans Republicans were willing to do anything after Republicans have done nothing but.

For the past six months present plan after plan whether it was the Ryan budget whether it's cut -- and balance.

One thing after another Republicans have offered plan after plan after plan Democrats have an offer a budget in the senate.

The president haven't hasn't been specific on a patent reform Democrats have shirk their responsibility he's the president the United States.

This is the most pressing issue in the country according to him and He is still offered zero specifics on his plans now I think.

We may have had a very interesting moment in this press conference -- McCain when the president said in response to a question from Norah O'Donnell that He was committed to showing.

What had actually happened behind the scenes committed to showing the paperwork committed to providing the I wonder if the president actually did get specific on entitlement reform on his plan if there is such a plan doesn't that commit him.

To sharing it with the public after He said so so publicly in a press conference.

Charles your reaction.

Well it was a furious President Obama and what you wonder after watching that is what's left to talk about tomorrow morning at this meeting well they don't find -- wait for the country not to -- -- default exactly but you wonder if that the well hasn't been so poisoned by.

What's going on last week forums and we don't know exactly what is going on.

Whether we can actually get to solving this problem for the first time in this whole process I'm beginning to doubt that we really will -- that August 2.

Debt ceiling deadline and one of the unfortunate things about this press conference is that.

I understand he's try to portray himself as the guy who wants the compromise and once a balanced approach and he's the adult in the room but that last operation the sort of rhetoric that went on at the end there I don't think contributed to that.

Well it was last and first I mean from the very beginning Charles he's sad you know.

They can these Republicans say yes to any thing and they haven't shown us in the capacity of house Republicans to make tough decisions.

I mean He didn't just burden -- -- bridges He napalm.

This is Obama.

And his most.

Sanctimonious.

Demagogic.

Self righteous and arrogant and given the baseline.

It wasn't a pretty -- Look.

He started out by summoning the leaders of congress summoning them.

I love and -- -- who does He think He is in the American system the executive in the congress are coequal and a banana republic.

-- move their account DO owns some of the members of the congress the way He He He demanded their appearance in the Oval Office I thought was disgraceful.

There of the brain -- -- we call second on this issue He said we have said to fourth they play and He has set forth nothing.

Nor has the democratic controlled senate -- Steve indicated the Republicans are friends offered -- a detailed.

Plan.

The Ryan's plan in the house and they offered the -- -- and balanced.

This time around.

The president has offered nothing except He says if you go in the back room now.

My staff will give you would take to -- each -- everything I'm supposed to have given indeed He has never wrote one spoken about real cuts.

And lastly what was interesting is even at this late date what He -- that He says that the fate of the republic.

Hangs on the debt ceiling extension He said is given a short.

Extension of -- I have fear I won't excepted why.

He says I want is good to go over the past Election Day.

That is entirely self serving in political and He pretends.

He's the one who's in who's an interest in politics -- we have to break in here but we will have much war --
