Right now for teenagers are recovering from an attack by a grizzly bear in Alaska.

They were part of a group of seven teams hiking in Alaska's wilderness they were 35.

Miles from the nearest road when they startled the grizzly like this one.

With cubs.

After the attack the teens set off an emergency locator beacon and that's how state troopers came to rescue them.

It was absolute mayhem as you can imagine the teens were taking part in -- -- -- leadership program learning survival skills.

One said as He tried to run away the bear tackled him and -- him in the chest puncturing his lungs and breaking ribs here's what He told his parents.

There just started going after a bunch of that kids in the group.

And he's now.

It got him and knocked him down and fit and He said that there -- -- then went away and came back and I didn't get the exact details.

Of port -- that.

There's another four or eight McCain because -- was fighting there often kicking Canon.

That's another -- came up and started kicking a bit.

To help fortify the hair off.

The very feminine way.

Brandon McMillan is an animal behavior expert and a host on Animal Planet of the one of the rules in the wilderness is you you never want to get between a mother grizzly and her cubs apparently these kids.

Or either move between them or near them and mama bears alike there.

Absolutely.

You know nine times out of ten the reason why humans do get attacked is because they had no idea they were near the the mother and a -- something you have to understand right away.

Humans are not on a bears Manuel -- got the facts.

Yeah and you know hats off to those kids you actually were kicking this bear.

To try to I guess distracted driving away it it seems to have worked.

Yeah well look I mean when you're in that situation you gotta do what you gotta do one thing you -- -- one thing I would highly recommend to any -- -- going out in the wilderness.

-- you've got to carry about pepper spray or some sort of defense you have to remember when you go hiking in the wilderness.

You are in the wilderness so now you're in bear country and that's why people are having more encounters with bears it's not the bears are getting.

More aggressive.

If there's more people -- leisurely hikes out in the wilderness -- and again apparently they didn't know the bear was in the area to know that the cubs were there one of those one of the rules you wanna make a lot of noise when you're out on those trails to make sure that the -- here's your right they don't have real good eyesight.

Now in general what -- -- human is generally they don't have a lot -- conflict with bears when -- when the bear does not have -- comes around when the -- cubs.

There's really not much you can do and it's just the chance you've got to take when you take a hike.

-- didn't hit considering what happened here it's amazing that more kids weren't hurt mean for instance the -- that apparently were taken and two of them -- enough pretty serious condition we are led to believe in and two more maybe.

We're bitten by considering -- -- you know how far they were from help.

This turned out about as well as you might expect.

Well look it's it's a miracle they weren't killed honestly because bears are very powerful animals.

A grizzly bear especially when -- defending its young it has it has the ability to kill the entire crowd of people.

Now and that's a fact -- one -- with those claws and and they can -- a guy opens.

It'll go right through you the claws or between two and four inches long and they will go right through you I mean it bears are one of the most powerful animals pound for pound on the planet.

Room those kids are very fortunate and you know let's hope that the recovery continues and they -- come out of this okay there are gonna have quite a story to tell random again Kerry Kerry pepper spray that's my advice Brennan thank you.

Thank you.
