One week from tonight to have any team is gonna be headed off to Ames Iowa that is the side of the Republican primary debate that as host of right here in the Fox News Channel.

-- the big debate is followed by the Iowa state fair fried twinkies next Friday and then the Iowa straw poll.

On Saturday where voters statewide will cast ballots for their preferred Republican candidate.

So who's gonna come out on top and could next week's showdown proved to be a make or break event for some of the GOP nominees.

Joining me now a man who was a lot on the line next -- and that -- former Minnesota governor Republican presidential candidate Tim Pawlenty governor welcome back -- Doug thank you -- great to be with you -- -- fellow candidates are promising He.

Pork chops on -- fried twinkies.

Let's see godfathers pizza from Herman Cain I just you know -- can be a lot of food at that there.

Well we're gonna have an era in Strobl who with the dairy queen blizzard -- you know you like those -- after labor blizzard.

-- -- gonna come back Wayne fifty in the fifteen pounds I lost in the last -- six months and at a game back.

-- that this is important obviously you're -- -- in Minnesota.

This is -- this is -- -- straw poll.

Big indicator historically.

How important are you viewing the straw poll results.

Well I think it's the kickoff to the formal campaign season there's lot of pre season warm ups.

But this is going to be the start of the formal season and and I think we're gonna do very well I'm confident of that.

The same straw poll is more of an organizational exercise and it is a random poll.

But I think -- my record continues to get out across Iowa and America reducing spending and doing Health Care Reform the right way with no individual mandates no government takeovers and appointing conservative justices and more.

We're gonna continue to get good momentum I think you'll see the first step -- that.

In the straw poll next week are there's been some back and forth between you and your fellow Minnesotan.

That -- and congresswoman Michelle Bachmann what's going on.

Well we've had a couple of back and -- I don't know that people are interested in the back and forth as much as they are the country's in big trouble.

But the reason I'm running for president -- states is because I believe I got the results from the record the skills and the values to lead a to a better place.

And so I know what -- economy drop in the stock market drop and President Bush.

-- -- policies says something about pres Obama continues to blame him on my goodness it's his economy's been president three years and He is an -- And we've got to get this economy move and and the proposals that I put forward for jobs and investment are the most specific.

-- clearest and any candidate in the race including the president.

-- so we see this you know mine and -- ten days now we see major drop in the stock market.

All the gains for the year -- -- now wiped out.

The president has said well that's the one thing that He could point to is a great indicator of above his economic success I was.

You know two years ago in the state of the union and then the every economic metric we have is down what's gone wrong here and how bad is it.

Well what's gone wrong is we don't have a president who understands that we need to have a private economy not just the government men economy growing site.

Say in my remarks and -- set all across the country you can't be pro jobs and anti business and what this president has done present Obama.

-- take things from the private sector and bring it into government what we need to do is take things from government.

And bring it into the private sector we need to grow the private sector by shrinking government and the -- -- ignores the people who.

-- wanna grow businesses and provide jobs say the same thing every day all across this country which is get the government off my back.

Some talk about taxes some talk about regulation some talk about energy costs some talk about -- -- but the message is all the same.

But the federal government -- and President Obama have made it too difficult to discouraging to one certain.

Too slow too expensive and we need a candidate and I am that candidate Sean who will ignite the entrepreneurial spirit of this country and get this economy movement.

I've called for cutting the business tax rates individual tax rates reducing regulations and more those are the kinds of things -- get the economy moving.

Again in a while the country's been engaged in the debt ceiling debate governor you know -- nobody noticed that the president.

Signed on -- 600 neat new federal regulations that are gonna cost business ten billion dollars that's an enormous amount of money.

Certainly it'll take -- -- and senate for those businesses to hire.

You don't I've been spent a lot of time during this debt -- debate talking about.

Real solutions to balance the budget you know I -- like cut -- and balance -- the that was a good plan.

I thought the Ryan plan was -- good start.

I like the Mac plan a lot the Mac penny planning aware of the plan and and is -- something -- would sign on to.

Well I have my own planned game and at the university Chicago Barack Obama's former employer.

It's available at Tim Pawlenty dot com but goes into great detail about what I would do as president to get this economy moving and get some shoulder injury.

Sure cut the corporate rate from 35% to 15%.

Take the individual rates from six down to two.

Eliminate all taxation on dividends interest capital gains in the estate tax have a pro American drill here drill everywhere.

Bring more energy to market to bring down costs.

Energy plan repeal Obama care fix sarbanes Oxley fixed Dodd-Frank.

And make sure we have a regulatory approach that's pro jobs and one of the things I've said in that regard is.

Let's have a sunset on all regulations.

Let's also make sure that before regulations go into effect.

There's a final up and down vote by congress so real people who I have the bear the burdens of these regulations have one more crack.

-- their elected representative.

Before those regulations go into effect those are the kinds of things we need in long run and I know you support this -- We gotta have a constitutional amendment to balance the budget I don't believe we can send politicians to Washington DC anymore and trust.

That they're actually gonna have be fiscally disciplined some will most won't.

We gotta have what 49 of the fifty states have that's a requirement constitutionally that the budget be balanced.

I got tennis pretty impressive planned not one thing you said there I disagree with go to plenty good to see if they give -- Right John thank you and coming up obamacare is in full swing.
