If we cannot protect our national security than we cannot have economic prosperity.
That is according to former ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton and that sole reason may actually push him into throwing his hat into the presidential.
-- -- live right now from Washington without a hat so apparently he's not gonna throw it right now worries there.
Good morning glad to do if you are right -- you wrote -- -- -- and the title of that is why I want to run for president.
Why do you want to run for president.
Well -- -- might want to run for president.
I'm looking at this I have been for quite some time I'm very concerned.
That after two and a half years of the Obama administration there's not.
An adequate national debate on these foreign policy and defense issues and you know Arab foreign adversaries are not waiting for us to get our economic house in order.
Terrorism the threat of nuclear proliferation.
Sure belligerent Russian attitudes and others are all out there and they threaten the economic recovery needs.
Of course over the last couple weeks -- Washington DC has been consumed with the debt ceiling and now the fallout and the downgrade and everything else.
What is scary things and we were just talking about who's been named so far to this super committee.
If the super committee can't come to an agreement.
Some triggers are gonna go into effect that would absolutely devastate the Pentagon and I know that is very concerning to you.
But -- this is one of the things that really I think has caught people's attention they didn't.
Focus on this during the that negotiations I think a lot was achieved.
But the risk that we would have massive cuts in the defense budget.
On top of the massive cuts that the Obama administration has already imposed gotta leave us much weaker around the world it will encourage our adversaries.
And the fact is we do see the impact of this on a day to day basis if you have.
Instability in the Middle East the price of gasoline goes up it's that much more expensive to fill up your tank sure absolutely of course Caesar challenges facing.
The Republican slate of candidates for president of the United States and and you talked a little bit about why you might be thinking about running.
There's nobody in the Republican side so far who would fit the bill in your estimation.
Well I haven't heard from any of the candidates out there a really clear articulation of this linkage between national security and economic recovery and with all the economic illiteracy running around the White House I think it's important.
That people not just talk about the bean counting of the budget process important though that is but focus on a grand strategy for America not only to get the economy recovering.
But to defend our interests and our friends and allies around the world that will keep that recovery going over -- much longer period of time sure.
What you're here it's -- such an expert that was going on in the world community.
There is a terrible famine in Somalia right now that a lot of people are not familiar -- What should the United States be -- and and I know Russia and China not helping what can we do because of people are desperate.
That the United States is the largest donor of humanitarian assistance all around the world it has been for quite some time we contribute.
Roughly half of the food that the UN's World Food Program will distribute in Somalia.
I think what the US should be doing is pushing the UN to get a bigger presence on the ground there to distribute -- Assistance we ought to be considering the possibility of help in the African Union get more peacekeepers and I think the US military long sense.
Should have gone after the pirates that are interfering with commerce around Somalia interfering with the distribution of humanitarian assistance.
There's a lot we can be doing but you know -- fan manner or other problems around the world the administration is simply not paying attention.
That's one of the reasons you might.
Run for president of the United States -- John Bolton today from our DC bureau thank you very much when you're ready to declare.
We got -- play around there.
Betty thanks very.
