Ames Iowa right now where -- fortunate enough to be joined by state senator Paul McKinley Republican leader.

The Iowa senate senator thank you very much for taking the time to join us here foxnews.com live.

What's great to be with you Jonathan now tell only senator Walt do you want to hear from you all candidates for you president party's presidential nomination tomorrow night.

Well I think that what Iowans are looking for they are ones I've talked to what I wanna see is authenticity.

I think we've seen too many.

Political games played.

And people want someone who we'll talk straight give plain talk and let us know what their solutions to the myriad of problems we face are.

That when they come out talking you want to hear actual solutions because.

Obviously one can easily predict -- gonna hear a lot of criticism of President Obama on the economy but you'd rather than stay away from Manning didn't give us debt.

Detailed proposals.

Well I think that it's important we recognize there are problems and certainly we have a lot of problems with this administration failing to address.

Jobs failing to address the financial crisis in which we find ourselves.

And so I think they need to frame -- around here are my suggestions that solving those problems are getting us back on the track to where we have a brighter future.

Then we now have.

That no one knows the Republican voters in Iowa better than you.

As you told to them and just observed the way things it going that.

Who do you believe of the field right now has momentum.

Who is in serious trouble -- once the -- straw poll results Iraq.

On Saturday.

-- -- Iowans like to kick the tires before they buy and were seeing Iowans.

Weighing very carefully what these candidates are saying I've talked to a lot of people across this state.

And quite frankly they have -- made up their minds yet so.

It's a wide open field and I think there could be a lot of people contending for the top three spots to do do you like.

I like all of them especially when you compare them to the person in the White House now now.

Come on I now I know you haven't endorsed anybody but wouldn't you love to take this opportunity to I believe anyone of the candidates who's running would be a vast improvement over the as President Obama I -- Rick Perry the Texas.

Governor is not going to be at the debate not going to be at the straw poll not yet a declared candidate but He has plan.

-- to tell us something possibly on the day of the straw poll on Saturday do you know as a Republican in Iowa take that as a slap in the face.

Oh absolutely not I think that it will be a an enhancement to the candidates who will be appearing -- names.

I know that our governor Perry has been reaching out to a number of folks in Iowa so no I don't take it as a slap.

I wish she would have come to the straw poll but no I don't think it's a a slap in the face.

But -- sort of Byron you all come with a Washington examiner just snapped and I put to him the point that that it's easy for those of us in the rest of the country to think.

He is a small bunch of Republican activists making that choice is -- preferences known.

On a on a warm Saturday in the Iowa some it doesn't really matter but it really does to these candidates does it all you have a lot of power you guys.

Well I tell you I think Iowa is very represented the -- of the country as a whole we have been a swing state we have.

The same ideological divides within this state that you see across the country.

It is a great winnowing process candidates come here and they have to practice retail politics they have to practice.

Organizing campaign so I think it's a great winnowing process -- quite frankly a very big plus for the Republican Party and the nation.

But -- senator we have something like nine also candidates.

Republican candidates hanging around right now.

Do you expect when they come back for the -- can say is.

Next year you will that will be winnowed down to four all five.

I expect that to be the case.

I think.

If you listen to the opponents.

Prognosticate.

You'll hear that after these straw -- some people well.

Rethink whether they are going to continue in the race so yes I definitely believe.

That next January we'll see.

Fewer candidates have much smaller number than we see -- straw poll.
