And -- on Wall Street in New York overall in Washington and are seeing a lot more security today highly visible response to a specific and credible.
But unconfirmed terror threat we'll dig deeper into what that means hi everybody I'm generally.
It's our second -- -- happening now I'm John Scott homeland security and local law enforcement on heightened alert after receiving specific intelligence.
About a possible attack timed to coincide with the upcoming remembrance of nine elevenths.
Our national correspondent Catherine Herridge live in Washington right now -- you're the first reporter to get this bulletin what does it say.
Well thanks John this is the bulletin it's five pages long is obtained by fox.
It's called potential al-Qaeda -- New York City Washington DC during the 9/11 anniversary period.
And earlier today national security source confirmed to me that the FBI and intelligence community are seeking a handful of potential operatives.
And that there is a smaller -- that which may include American citizens or what are called LPRs that stands for legal permanent residents.
Here's a quote from the bulletin.
Such attacks that may involve -- -- US documentation.
The attacks would be intended to cause panic within the public.
And disarray and the first responders it adds that the intelligence is -- -- it is -- more specific than the possible timing this anniversary the location in new York and Washington.
And of course the method being a car bomb but if you're seeing green into the document itself but also talks -- -- the potential use of IED street.
So -- what's the source of this chat.
Well the -- the chatter based on my reporting.
-- a single -- -- the source that has a track record.
With the US intelligence community so they have an ability to test its reliability and I was told the threat information that really spiked in the last 36 hours.
I came at a Pakistan.
What also is striking to me is that this FBI DHS bulletin talk specifically.
And that -- -- Shahzad by the Oceanside with the American citizen of Pakistani descent.
Who drove that car bomb into Times Square in May last year and fortunately it failed now while the bonds failed to detonate.
That attack was seen by al-Qaeda and it allies overseas as somewhat of a successful attack.
Because they were able to get an American citizen to travel to Pakistan.
Get training to make the bomb and then get them back into the United States and it was really a matter of luck that the bomb did not detonate that -- -- Catherine Herridge reporting live for us from Washington thank you -- -- for more on this Peter Brookes is a former CIA officer he's also a senior fellow at The Heritage Foundation Peter one thing I wanna get on the table right.
Off the bat you know there might be viewers who say why are you guys telling.
You know these plotters everything that we know about this thing is there any kind of a danger -- that.
Well there might be because they might take evasive action but -- same sense John you want John Q public out there to keep -- vigilant I mean we don't wanna be alarmist about this threat but we also have to be vigilant somebody might see something.
You know somebody -- baby itself BS -- -- -- fertilizer for instance and somebody comes -- doesn't know.
And buys a lot of fertilizer that could be used is that as -- car bomber by the other sort of explosives or somebody sees something and they can report this to you know to be the authority so that I think in that sense it's very it's very important.
Right Faisal Shahzad the man that Catherine -- -- just referring to who apparently tried to bomb on Times Square in the last couple years I think he was buying and that fertilizer didn't didn't get the bomb put together correctly but that's one of the things are going to be looking for what about propane propane -- things like that.
That's certainly one of the things they could use and so this is why they want people out there to what who may not be really have so many a law enforcement individuals so many FBI agents -- an intelligence agents but there's there's 310 million Americans.
Who can perhaps help remember back here a number of years ago we had that sniper he wasn't bound by the authorities he was noted by some -- travelers who reported it to authorities so it's very important that remain we -- vigilant why the others are trying to run down additional information about this plot and they can hopefully try to locate and identify and boil it if it is an -- Actual plot and that the information that we're receiving is good but.
According to a bulletin just crossing the wires and there's perhaps no surprise here but this threat may be linked to -- -- -- here he is the Egyptian Doctor Who took over as the number one in al-Qaeda.
After of course Osama bin Laden was so.
Was so deservedly put away by that Navy SEALs team Ayman Al zawahiri.
-- clearly would like to make a splash would like to embarrass the United States government if he could the question is.
Can he what do we know about.
The kinds of plots that he tends to like vs what his.
Late and -- lamented leader.
Osama bin Laden liked to try to pull off and.
Well I mean did there's a lot of reason to them want to do this obviously we know al-Qaeda has been focused on dates and anniversaries furlong time I -- here would love to prove that he is a viable leader of al-Qaeda and Al al-Qaeda has been reeling John as you know -- we took out Osama bin Laden we took out their new number two.
-- T Al -- -- in the last couple weeks he want to prove this organization is good -- receive funding received -- get new foot soldiers to -- avenge the loss of Osama bin Laden and that as as mentioned by Catherine that that -- SUV plot last may came once -- away from exploding -- and they see this that the success I don't think there's a tremendous amount of difference in what they wanna do but they wanna do something and they wanna show that al-Qaeda.
In that they did today should al-Qaeda central in Pakistan is still a buck a viable and dangerous anti American -- -- And it's an organization that many people hadn't heard of until ten years ago Peter and still viable and would like to strike us.
Let's not let our guard down that's the message.
