Well Taliban suicide fighters launching attacks on US targets in Afghanistan just two days after the ten year commemoration.
Of the 9/11 attacks.
As you hear gunfire and explosions rocking the heart of the Afghan capital of Kabul.
Insurgents firing rockets and assault rifles towards the United States embassy.
NATO headquarters and other buildings killing one person hurting more than a dozen others.
Two suicide bombers also launching attacks.
One killing at least one police and the other bomber.
-- at least two people near a high school it is the second major Taliban attack in the city in less than a month.
The violence in Afghanistan now at its worst.
Since America started its longest war a decade ago -- -- now the former assistant deputy Defense Secretary for the Reagan administration.
And Fox News national security analyst KT McFarland -- it's great to see it you know you read the stories in this and there are different accounts some say this is a well coordinated attack.
Others say it was only ten insurgents.
What's your take on the end of a bloody summer or the beginning of the new wave of violence.
Now I -- -- we've seen I was in Afghanistan in May in the areas that you're just talking about it and NATO headquarters at the US embassy.
What what -- tell -- trying to do is a couple of things they're trying to send a signal no one thinks that the Taliban was going to attack.
And take over the US embassy now of course -- what they're trying to send a signal to everybody in Afghanistan.
And of the Americas are forced to be reckoned with weakened strike deep into the heart of the area of Afghanistan.
Of the capital of Afghanistan which you think is the most secure were showing you that we have the ability to.
Together and penetrate that and do harm so I think what they're trying to do is send a number of -- one of the Americans on the NATO forces were forced to be reckoned with.
And they're also sending a signal to the Kabul government.
Don't you think it's going to be -- wants to Americans -- and finally they're sending a signal to the Afghan people saying if you haven't decided which side you wanna be on him.
What might be a civil war and think again because we're forced to be reckoned -- I -- go back in your mentioning -- that you were just there -- back in May inside the Green Zone or that the ring of steel as they often college and and give me an idea -- -- take us inside there and give me an idea you think this compromises the security.
Of that zone where so many Americans are.
Well we have Americans -- -- -- several buildings inside this ring of steel and to get inside it.
You've just drive and you've got to go for a number of concrete checkpoints.
There -- NATO forces at each of these checkpoints and at the American Embassy.
-- American military and embassy personnel the checkpoints you don't get in there even with that -- with a passport with an idea you have to be escorted the entire time.
Nobody is walking around there.
Once they've gotten -- and so somebody had to be escorted it needs to be able who would have had their.
Have either be -- on the inside.
Or they would have had you know maybe fake ID fake uniform not clear but what they were able to do was -- the penetrate several.
Several checkpoints -- -- late run by NATO forces when I was there was that macedonians who were running it.
But they've shown that they can get inside at a compound -- several buildings -- heavily fortified concrete US embassy across the street as the NATO headquarters where General Petraeus went ahead of all that forces in Afghanistan.
Is headquartered and -- able to touch that and that's pretty scary after ten years and hundreds of billions of dollars of expense.
And really just a few seconds KT in the -- it doesn't indicate to you or does it that the Taliban are ready to talk peace.
Now the Taliban are now ready guitar case.
And -- my worry is that after ten years the Afghan government is not able to control even Koppel where it's headquartered.
And keep it safe and that I hope that as United States with straws.
Any hope that we're leaving behind a secure and wouldn't you know democratic country that can defend itself and be -- self sustaining this doesn't look like him.
Our national security analysts KT McFarland K team good have you thank you.
