Welcome meg -- but -- president and CEO of the climate reality project.
A story tomorrow night at 7 o'clock central time they to a -- our global event will look mobilize the world hopefully.
To confront the reality of the climate crisis.
-- -- move westward around the globe occurring at each time zone at 7 o'clock.
And the of -- broadcast live on you stream and can be viewed -- climate reality project that org Al Gore will address.
The messes.
When the clock that's right sits at 7 PM in New York.
-- Well thank you -- and you -- -- -- -- there.
It was all written out for me I really had nothing to do that well no matter what it well good job what what's the deal what what He really trying to accomplish here.
We're really trying to accomplish is getting people to.
Push against denial stand up to it and face the reality of climate in the last year alone in the United States.
About a billion dollars a month for the last ten months has been.
Extended based on extreme weather -- just in the United States in the last year all around the world.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- You know you have a lot of the naysayers and another minute winning -- getting calls from people mostly conservatives generally understand -- -- The work in service to conserve the environment conserve on it I don't get I don't get why this is a left right issue but -- political at all can you explain.
No I honestly I think it is in a denial machine out there.
Debt is actually working really targeted to create -- sense of doubt and skepticism and and -- wouldn't fossil fuel industry with a number of.
Isn't all about the money trail.
It's pretty much all about the money trail when -- track it down because right back to a facility is very much.
Remember in 1964 -- born alive as easily but in 1964.
Wasn't surgeon -- declared to cigarettes and smoking was harmful for your help the next thirty years before.
The machinery.
Tobacco industry was beat back in the truth is revealed that yes cigarette smoking is extremely harmful to your -- that.
But the -- here to what we're dealing with this event and it's the first as a -- to -- quarterly events.
Taking on the denial machine and trying to just connect with people all over the world -- either already know it and are looking to make that connection.
But doesn't have -- you don't keep it different now.
-- -- what.
What's really troubles some is that the it's not just the rank and file but the actual candidates running for president.
Perhaps the one with the largest following at this time Rick Perry who said this during the most recent not last night but I think it was the prior -- societal.
It's not settled on this the idea that we would put Americans.
-- the economy.
Had ended jeopardy.
Based on scientific theory that's not.
Settled yet did to me is just it is nonsense admitted me.
And I tell us a message this provision you have a group of scientists and -- said here is the fact Galileo.
Got outvoted first bell.
Here's what traders realize He picked the wrong -- SpinRite on their.
Galileo is promoting the scientific method.
Well I was providing -- -- you wanna -- the Rick Perry is just because.
Sometimes distance -- that one -- and explain gravity that makes him or her wrong.
Hello this is.
This is real I mean it actually revealed a much of himself.
And about that partisan divide ticket every national academy of science and the world.
The world took a 100% of national academies of science and every country in the world it hasn't.
Stated unequivocally that kind of its kind Israel's economy changing -- happening -- and pastor -- an effort 98% of climate scientists.
In the world.
90%.
To I don't know where Rick Perry getting these effects around but they happen to -- perhaps opinion they are facts.
Are we any other part of the argument is whether we cause it and then I guess gets even more controversial.
Whether our presence on the planet has something to do with.
You know like Sarah Bachmann Sarah Bachmann I get to Palin and -- if you apparently.
Michelle Bachmann is said.
That CO2 is good because you know it's natural it's a national party Mike as we tell it.
So it's good.
I don't not even Begin to address.
That kind that level of ignorance.
Well protected like people who argue that the world flat.
Right -- do you really have to be to hand.
-- most fundamental level by connecting to people who have.
Are interested in and and looking at the true.
And finding out whether or not they've been duped in believing that quote is the world flat affect climate science is real or that Cubans don't have any influence on the -- have any impact that doesn't mean.
We don't have influence on polluting our waters.
We don't have every there -- a lot of things that -- do both positive and negative and why this solidifies.
In the face of those -- announcing it honestly mixed note that it isn't a partisan issue.
What are they afraid of if in fact we find it is human cause they're gonna have to eat lettuce the rest of their lives and drive.
Well -- cars don't handle -- I am on I think you're talking about a fossil fuel industry that really.
Dominates the economy of the United States and the rest of the world it's it's very comfortable status -- And it that will change we actually have to move to a clean energy economy it will take time.
The purpose of our event and all of these that separate the posting of the next few years are designed again into the real debate about just how to solve this.
What are the energy solutions that we need to get behind collection of resources -- not over the phone need to pay about denial.
And what where should our resources go where we start that conversation.
Well I think that competition is really the one you know you keep hearing candidates talk about how the American people need to have a conversation.
Well it'd be -- -- -- there's going to be a bullet and energy interest that world energy for solutions that -- means.
There are a lot of technologies that are.
Burgeoning growing wind and solar changing rapidly in terms of price point every day.
Through the whole mixture of sources that we're gonna actually have to focus on and a lot of it will have to be private sector count will be public sector it's -- -- That competition barely happening in the united.
And you've got to -- people saying well you know we're hurting the job saying -- we're hurting jobs by not drilling for oil.
We're hurting our own dependence.
You know we're not we were too dependent on foreign oil we -- drill here drill now would be much better off are those valid arguments.
Well there are jobs they are energy jobs to be had they don't -- have to come from drilling.
We want to do you know those lines at present -- the only source of energy comes from killing and that's just not true.
We've got wind turbines that need to be built in solar panels that need to be built and constructed and placed on homes and -- -- other energy.
Innovations that are current all of which have jobs to cut a -- them.
Two million jobs about the only energy jobs it's a period.
Singular focus on a single kind of energy in a single way of getting it we're gonna have to do -- much more diverse energy economy in the future.
So what if people if they want to participate in this global event starting tomorrow night at seven and then from Mexico City.
