Brenda Warner is the wife of former NFL quarterback Kurt Warner and I recently sat down with a couple to talk about a -- book and much much more.
Take a look.
And joining us now is Brendan Kurt Warner and it's called one call away a memoir answering life's challenges with unshakable -- -- good good to see how real feel it is my successor how's retired life.
-- great I love and and enjoy and have it yet you guys met.
Ninety's.
When you're not 92 -- to ethnicity could you break the book up into two parts and and the -- Personal you've had a lot of tragedy you know life I've earned my gray hair that's underneath hair go gray hair that's it.
CBS -- -- well how cold as the distant and I have I have a liberal excuse.
-- pair -- lose your parents were killed in that tornado yes you who you had a -- was a fiance hadn't.
Of -- -- -- -- was a marine I was a marine you're the Marie I was and they get a -- it was a great up.
-- right and she was discharged.
With the medical discharge because He had a brain tumor.
And had that removed.
And so I was the one -- working being a marine and He was at home taking care of our starring in -- Right when He accidentally dropped him and so cosmetic brain injury in blindness and so that was another call that I got that change the course my life so.
Nothing that I ever asked for one indoor thought that I had ever be a mother the special needs child so.
What do you do at that you know what do you do with that call and what -- -- you go you know could He become and that's what my books about.
It's because we all get these calls I'll never forget.
I got a call.
-- 4 o'clock in the morning is never good right when your phone rings of 4 -- who wanted to ask somebody very close to my wife had died.
And I remember taking the call and -- -- wake her up and tell her and then it.
But this is something everybody goes through.
And that's right out of the book could mean we all live this you know life and then and these days common these moments come.
I guess is the issue that we had that we -- that -- -- -- and for you it was you have an answer.
Well I would say in it up learning through writing my book is that were all one call away from good or from bad.
But that's also one call away and I think through my my story I had that foundation the state.
That when something bad happened I figured out why believe what I believe they became real.
And I was able to hold on to that that gave me comfort.
And so that's what I shared when those calls come even the good calls when -- made it to the NFL when He won Super Bowl.
NDP I mean you have good cause -- change -- your life and the bad calls and you gotta.
Whole body won't do well hey I mean I would think He might be watching that when He got to name a starter for the NFL which change the course -- my life because I mean when I met him.
You know He was -- athletes our knees and be married to or they're not that He He is even He is pretty -- -- the -- -- all the other guys except perhaps yeah exactly -- I met him He was out all this you know He was that the.
That way and for all of us -- what do you mean by that.
Well it was way before may not that we met in college and you know I was I was on the bench -- so you know she didn't have any idea.
What she was getting into but they I think like she said I think.
We all have defining moments in our lives you know good or bad moments in our -- that.
Show who we are as people and I think that's what -- get out of my wife's book is -- so we people talk about my story in the perseverance and what I overcame to accomplish my goals in football.
But this is real life stuff like you said everybody goes through these moments and you know those moments the -- Did you get better equipped at dealing with a lot of the tragedy that you write about in other words as.
Each new thing you have to deal -- -- heat that comes an expectation you know all of a sudden I'm a little kid.
And slowly but surely uncle and uncle so and so dies and and so on so dies and then my father passed away that my mother passed away.
I'm kind of move a little bit more immune now I think as I get older do you feel you've got stronger in terms -- your ability to accept that these things are gonna.
Happened well I was 21 as it mother and -- when He was injured so I think my -- youth.
In my ignorance I just I just didn't think bad things would happen like that.
And so that rocked my world but then He -- to and they said they wouldn't live any just kept living in living and I thought all right he's got a purpose on this earth.
Let's figure out what this is -- let's make him a great life I think it's.
Terrific I honestly do because I think it's very relatable -- everyone's gonna hit these moments and these roadblocks you see a lot NFL these guys get cut.
And how painful that is and they worked hard and put their life you know but then you know what all the chips in one basket so I guess that I mean.
Everybody goes through -- and we often talk because you might go through that book can you say and I never had a child that was injured or not parents weren't.
You know weren't killed in a tornado.
But we always talk about that when we go through something it's always the worst thing for us and that's what you're talking about is that.
You know my thing might not be as bad as -- there might be worse than -- but we all go through those moments.
Well would love the book it borrowers and that is terrific read and I wish all the best that and it's and it's been great to have you both and I'm gonna Fannie yours you didn't torturing media for all those years in the NFL.
Democrats' -- golf OK while.
I think the last time we play they tortured me a little bit also good okay if you're feeling better now yeah appreciate having only get tougher decision are that your -- -- there are -- Thank you both the -- very nicely to Bonnie thank you very much.
