Well you probably know Bob Turner became the first Republican to win his congressional district and over ninety years.
Earlier this week He shocked the political world by beating a Democrat David weapon.
In New York's heavily democratic ninth congressional district joining me now from queens New York congressman Bob Turner.
I want it again just.
Feel like the sound of congressman is is that something you're getting used to now.
I keep looking over my shoulder to see who they're talking to.
I'm getting used to it there were a lot of people in the political establishment among Republicans who didn't think you had a chance.
Some of the committees didn't even wanna support you.
The account I feel vindicated by the -- election results they really weren't even that close.
-- I think I got a great deal of support from the state party the national Republican Party.
But mostly it was Democrats and independents coming across.
Party lines.
Supporting the right ideas.
How much impact did the endorsements of former New York mayor and Democrat Ed Koch have in your election.
Maybe.
Three to one.
Democratic.
Two Republican district.
His endorsement came through the great credibility.
And strategy from crossing party lines.
I think it was a critical point of the election.
Do you also feel that you're a Tea Party candidate I mean that that was the way the Democrats try to characterize you and try to scare people that all of this Bob Turner he's a Tea Party guy are -- Tea Party guy and that in itself.
What does that mean well.
When I was confronted with that I said.
We don't really have a Tea Party -- but we have people who are.
Sympathetic.
I think T stands for taxed enough already.
The people I've -- Who identified themselves with.
The -- movement.
Or constitutional ascend.
Promote American exception was.
So I think I can live with that.
You also had a very memorable reaction.
When I think people were speculating was your election a message to President Obama.
Who who do you give me that line again because I thought it was actually brilliant.
I forget what it was something because a -- growth.
Yes they did with his message.
I think 888 I thought it was -- is that I -- the message and and indeed congressman you are and it's great to be able to call you congressman.
I know you've only been there a few days don't have time to change the -- system yet.
But you've already heard about the president's job plan which seems to me like a retread of the one He trotted out before.
But is there anything in that plan that you could get your arms around and embrace and say -- we could do that.
Well.
I think the the strength of beyond the bill of the proposed bill is that it's a starting point.
Doing -- things will -- with.
But both sides gonna have to come together and soon -- we're going to do anything positive we got to get on both sides of the aisle.
We thank the president for starting the process and now let's get to work.
-- -- you got a lot of congratulatory calls from across the country but one little question I gotta ask congressman did you get a call.
From the White House and from the president congratulating you on the election.
-- Thought it may have gotten lost in the didn't.
But I'm not aware of it.
I'm sure it's coming soon congressman you're -- great sport but more than that your great American and congratulations and also.
Thanks for having the courage to do what a lot of people said could not be done.
Can you prove that it could.
And I hope you enjoy your time in congress and I hope we as an American people enjoy your time in congress thank you very.
