Our America's young adults are being hit hard by the recession according to latest economic figures.

Employment among young Americans ages sixteen to 29 was 55 point 3% in 2010.

Compared with 67 point 3% back in 2000 that's the lowest it's been since World War II.

So what is it about younger Americans that has been struggling right now joining me is Matthew Segal He still -- -- half hour time.

Good to see you and I'm glad that you're seeing you know and only 25 years old and I'm Gretchen morning so what do you make of those figures young people simply are not finding employment.

And I know that some people are deemed it as the Lost Generation potentially.

Young people are frustrated right now and they're frustrated because -- generation -- potential going completely untapped.

We have all these social media technology skills we view the world through different vantage point.

In a globalized economy and were not being able to contribute our perspective in our ideas toward growing the workforce and that's a shame why.

Well we have in unemployment rate that's the worst since World War II we have more young people living at home with their parents and their parents basement than ever before.

College debt has never been greater personal debt from credit card had never been greater.

And young people -- -- organized constituency that are voting high enough numbers to show the politicians that we're gonna be there to vote them out of office.

If they don't create policy -- -- contrast and yet in 2008.

Much of the success of candidate Barack Obama was the young people.

You're -- bachelor and again in 2012.

Well I think -- young people in 2012.

Are going to be very focused on.

Taking ownership.

The fact that.

Policy today is not conscientious of us.

And what we need to do is hold our politicians accountable about long term investments in education you you talked about earlier in the show.

Investing in young people to make -- not a burning on the states that they have an education.

Training them so that they have skills that are in emerging fields that they can contribute to economic growth.

We want to invest in people at the beginning so long term we can grow the economy rather than bail them out when it's too late.

I want you listen to candidate Mitt Romney.

I'm trying to doesn't define who's who's rich and who's not rich I want everybody in America to be rich I want.

-- want everybody to have the kind of opportunities that we in the stage -- I want people in America to recognize that the future we'll be brighter for their kids and -- was.

I think young people's -- uniquely optimistic because we complete college.

In greater proportions but you know this is a generation right now.

That -- politics is toxic and we're looking for politicians who are willing to sit at the right things make tough decisions that enable economic growth.

We're also looking.

And ways we can serve our country I mean.

Look at all the young people today -- wanna serve they're willing to work before.

Below minimum wage and disaster relief physicians and Green jobs and military.

The longest serving die for their country but there's not enough jobs to go around the White -- need to focus one -- that you were a little.

Disappointed about the debate last -- is that you felt that the candidates on stage did not speak specifically to your group yeah younger people.

Why did they not do that.

A lot of talk about deregulation.

In -- The health care bill being a -- -- job creation.

Well interestingly young people here yesterday in New York Times were shown to be the most benefited constituency from.

The health care bill over almost a million young people can now stand their parents' insurance plan.

And you know.

That kind of focus was not addressed about what we're gonna do with the government to actually create jobs.

As opposed -- trying to government completely out of the way I -- young people view government as inefficient in some areas of life.

But you know to completely abolish the government run Pollard Michelle -- -- saying.

Seems a little extreme and I think young people four out of ten of us.
