Thanks -- Bill O'Reilly in a week isn't Bernie segment tonight CBS news icon Andy Rooney say good -- last night on sixty minutes.
This is a moment I've dreaded.
-- wish I could do this forever.
I can't though.
But I'm not retiring and writers don't retire and I'll always be a writer.
A lot of you has sent me wonderful letters and said good things to me when you meet -- industry.
I wasn't always gracious about it.
It's hard to accept being -- light.
I don't say it is often but thank you although if you do see manor restaurant please just that He might get.
You're not analyzed attorneys impact on the country.
The -- an article dot -- -- over how well did you know Andy -- when you were conceived -- well I know from around the the halls we we talk more than once and I had.
Experience with them where -- -- -- -- segment -- a few minutes with Andy -- I don't think they were his best few minutes and I say that.
-- analogy he's an American icon he's beloved by millions of Americans.
But I saw.
A weakness in him that I don't think is attracted you -- -- the story yeah absolutely.
My book my first book -- came out.
Ten years ago.
And I was on every radio and TV show -- and how that works in the country.
But I wasn't on Larry King Live -- I have no constitutional right or any other kind of right to be on that -- -- I have no problem.
The book was number one without Larry so I was I was cool.
But Larry had a number of high profile journalists on talking about the media in general and about my book in particular and what you say.
They weren't thrilled with the book it was about liberal bias in on the news He had -- Romania.
And they asked him -- -- what He thought of bias the book and that's the topic of bias in the news.
And He said Bernice always had a great knack for being a jerk I have no problem with that.
I've been so sure it's not only is it true but none obvious -- -- I've been I've been called worse.
But -- said I don't want I'm gonna give you two cents in that Benny said.
But there's no question that I Andy Rooney that I among others have a liberal bias no I'm watching this at home and I say I don't care can be really as a liberal bias -- a commentator.
What does He mean by -- high.
He answers it with the next sound -- Over the next question to Larry King He says I think Dan referred to Dan rather I think damage transparently liberal.
Now we may not like to hear me say that.
I always agree with him but I think He should be more careful so after I fell off the the couch.
At home and got up.
And -- I've never said anything that inflammatory about Dan rather.
This is unbelievable.
He saying conservatives have been right all along -- -- -- point in your book yes yes exactly so.
He gets called and taken to the woodshed by -- guy yeah by a senior executive who we both know.
The senior executive said He was disloyal I know this because Andy Rooney told me that in a phone conversation.
So what does it this this would have been the end of the -- so what does Andy Rooney do he's got a nationally syndicated column.
He writes a column about this incident in which she says I was a guest on Larry King show and I said some things that I would have been better off lying about or avoiding.
So what's a translation.
If the subject -- bias in the news.
Dishonesty is the best policy but it even better policies taking the fifth.
And not even talking about it.
Look he's 92 years old he's had a remarkable.
Career he's an American original.
But my few minutes with -- Andy Rooney in that episode.
Showed me that He wasn't a standup guy in that episode and He He didn't -- He should of stood up and had more courage and He did -- power.
He did tell the truth He did tell the truth that's valid true optional and then -- off of that how many.
I did back off your stupidity it would have been wiser for you not to tell a true -- it and then when I was misquoted or no no no that's -- -- right right right but on news from it.
But listen to what you just at a news man.
How many saves tell the truth none of them -- on this subject you out of -- -- He said it is one of the few beside you.
All right who actually told the truth bill.
I know you we've known each other for a long time if you say something tough today.
That's true you're not gonna come back tomorrow and say you know I'm sorry I told the truth.
I should have done it the world can't go around when people tell the truth -- they would do in the corporate loyalty thing on them.
You can't talk about your company that way it right -- that that that but I my migrate -- story is -- -- in the elevator with him.
On 57 street one -- and He looked up and it goes.
-- on that and make it.
I -- -- sandy nice to meet you think all right that was the first I've ever met have -- He said -- -- never -- was right I didn't make it CBS but you know here right now which calls out to have been better that He said that the the -- said.
Have you noticed how people eat corn flakes these Robin I bet tolerated that yeah but actually laughed when He -- I -- -- I you know the guy.
The reason I respect Andy Rooney and sixty minutes.
Sixty minutes is an honest broadcast right it is Andy Rooney.
I think he's an honest guy bill I agree completely He was honest He said some -- and then He backed away because they put heat on and they say well it ain't happening you're OK you're cool with that.
That's not what I do.
But I understand I was at the top spot at that will allow you could help you out He doesn't care about you and you care about me combined you know that.
It's -- shark infested world TV news how many people care.
-- -- This is -- Up with people here you know I'm talking about I think they -- are there -- -- -- everybody great -- thanks reality -- --
