-- So labor unions now joining protesters on the Yahoo! organized occupy a Wall Street rally spreading from coast to coast chiefly in New York City it started there.
Up my next guest has had his own battles with the unions.
Ohio governor John Kasich Republican governor welcome here back in your hometown -- of Columbus, Ohio.
Hey bill happy and you know happy birthday I was there when.
When we didn't have a lot of viewers at fox and then I watched it grow every single year to where it's just so dominant today and I think you've done a lot better since I've left action -- But I enjoyed being -- How I enjoyed being at -- -- a lot Saddam humility is a strong for governor thank you for your time today by the way what do you look at these protests.
Well you know I I went to school in the seventies bill also like protests sir kind of in the blood of people who were in -- in school in the seventies and there are some of what they say is legitimate arises looking the other day yet Ed CEO pay once they get fired -- bill it's more money than.
Than most people make in a lifetime for being fired at the same time I am concerned about you know the blame game I'm concerned about.
Class warfare and that you seek his class warfare.
-- one person against another blames one people's one person's failure on somebody else's success.
And frankly in this country if we're gonna solve our problems we can't do -- divided you know house divided it doesn't work so they need to -- people need to hear -- they have to say but at the end of the day we gotta be -- Fixing problems and a lot of people wondering how long it goes on Joseph Biden yesterday says these people have a lot in common with the Tea Party.
I hit and and He also said that banks are part of the problem that from the vice president was a senator who voted for the TARP bailout the fall 2008.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- there there were there were look our Italian there were practices on Wall Street there were just terrible.
And like I say back to CEO's getting paid a fortune when they go out the door you know that sends a message to people who work.
Almost unemployed or underemployed or.
You know that you know somebody gets away with -- -- in America's a place where we try to judge fairness we just don't need fairness -- -- when do.
Well you've got something and I didn't and I'm angry about it that creates polarization.
I have to tell you the last thing we need in this country is more polarization were parties can't get together people can't get together.
You can -- pressure differences but at the end of the day.
We have to come together as a country because when you look at our challenges out there they're staggering and who's at risk.
My eleven year old twin daughters you know the people's kids are at risk if we don't get this under control good news -- When I left congress after week and I was that the architect of that last balanced budget.
We were five trillion dollars in surplus so we can fix this but it took both parties to come together to get it done.
What you're having your own challenge there and Ohio view that a sweeping reform of me you know the union agreements across that state that you signed in the law there's a big challenge.
That will be voted on a referendum come November.
Senate bill five is that what will you wanna know that president -- your state many times He was there a few weeks ago and part you know.
We know how important Ohio is an electoral votes.
But also that that left is really trying to gain some traction.
To develop support to to defeat senate bill five.
Can you win and -- -- -- -- reverse.
We don't know yet we're it's going to be a tough it's a tough race but let me tell you changes always hard.
Disrupt -- people who bring about change to anything including the guy we just lost.
Steve Jobs was -- disrupt -- -- was criticize all the way up until his death I mean.
You know disrupt there's like Reagan in church hill when Martin Luther King I mean.
It's always tough but at the end of the day you you're driving for positive change and we are out here.
And bill we're asking our public employee unions to make sure they pay 10% for their guaranteed pension and 15% for their health care.
And were run a strong campaign and hopefully we'll win then we're gonna give it our best but here in Ohio the focus is always on that I also -- -- focus on the fact we've balanced our budget and cut taxes and reform the place.
And I want to give you some numbers.
We've been involve -- directly in a 154 jobs projects statewide.
We've got 101000 committed new jobs 20000 retained jobs in one point five billion in new capital investment.
And one point seven billion in payroll.
So you know what we're able to do here is to -- we're doing here we're not out of the woods because when I inherited this place it was a total -- We're beginning to see some light and -- it is an easy bill but.
-- you know lower taxes less regulation a better business environment this is all contributes to.
Economic success or more -- on that we just got the national numbers nine point 1% -- unemployment that rate holds steady.
But a 100000 jobs added they believe for the past month.
How much of that reflects an Ohio.
Well bill the problem is is that people are sitting on the sidelines companies have a lot of money but they don't -- -- invest it because they don't know what's gonna happen.
They don't know what's gonna happen with taxes regulations are -- blizzard out there and regulations if over regulations occur that kills jobs.
And so people don't know what to do and that's why we're not getting out of this mess and I've tried to talk to the administration about some ideas one of them of which is to.
Allow companies to bring their profits from Europe back to America so they can invest here -- job training.
Or invest here in research and development.
We've got to have some breakthrough here because I mean this unemployment means there's a lot of people not working and a lot of people in poverty bill.
And the fact -- -- didn't go up is good news but the problem is it's too high and we face those headwinds that are generated out of Washington and makes our job harder no question governor thank you really look forward to talking over the next year Ohio will be pivotal again as you well know.
And the campaign for when He fell solely thanks bill bad John Kasich in Columbus thank you -- -- let's talk.
