Kids under eighteen in California can spend their free time at the beach or the mall but starting in January they cannot be inside -- bit.

Governor Jerry Brown yesterday signed a bill raising the legal age for tanning -- eighteen.

31 other states restrict the use -- tanning -- by minors but California's the first abandon entirely for -- seventeen and under.

Supporters of the bill point to a link between the radiation in those tanning beds and skin cancer.

Trace Gallagher live in Los Angeles how serious is this cancer risk -- Well there are many studies show that say it's very serious in -- the World Health Organization now says that tanning beds are a level one carcinogen the skin cancer institute.

Says that those who tanned indoors are 74%.

More likely to develop melanoma.

And -- Stanford study of California women between the ages of fifteen and 39 now says that skin cancer rates for them over the past ten years.

Has doubled and it's even worse for women in high income areas who have more time to spend apparently indoor and outdoor tanning listen now to the lawmaker who sponsored the bill.

Because that way to disease works -- you won't know -- Got skin cancer after you -- -- these tanning sessions sometimes two years later that's why it's so dangerous.

Yeah 31 other states you mentioned have tanning bed laws but New York Ohio Illinois and Rhode Island now considering passing.

The industry says and I'm quoting here the recession -- already hit this industry hard leading to 25%.

Of the professional indoor tanning salons to close in California since 2009 the legislature.
