Tonight we bring -- the second edition of our special visits with the Republican presidential -- this this evening.
We welcome our guests former New Mexico governor Gary Johnson governor thanks for being here greed being -- -- for a pleasure.
Journalists are with you.
Sure -- hundred distraught short straws -- where I wanted to ask you is a tingling in his.
I'm I'm not only giving you don't know you haven't qualified to make most of the debates and you're not.
-- not having a Herman -- like surge in the polls right now what what.
By your own standard what threshold do you need to have to stay in the race to be in the race -- that go long hole Paul how do you define.
It being worth your time and worse resources of people's attention.
-- politics is.
But two things having momentum and exceeding expectations so as long as you have those two things your in the game and yes that's a real disappointment -- not -- in the debates.
It's a real disappointments and not be in national polls that qualifies you for the debates.
I'm -- argue as a very successful two term governor of New Mexico but that's the -- and making.
Am I believe that I'm talking on behalf of the majority of Republicans but that's the pitch I'm making.
So do you make your stand in New Hampshire and what's the game plan.
Well so that is the game plan right now is to make -- make my stand in New Hampshire where you can go from obscurity to prominence overnight with a good showing.
And a good showing his exceeding expectation and showing momentum now I have momentum.
-- Exceeding expectation that's something that gets judged by everybody else but these are the essential components so whether or not you.
Move forward with the benchmark with that expectation you know if you're if you're expected to not do anything it takes third place that may be an overwhelming victory if you're expected to winning it takes third place you're done.
Rudy Giuliani I think last cycle clearly got is pink -- handed to as a result of a showing in New Hampshire.
Not by any means exceeding expectations -- Well so the president announced that he's sending a 100 troops to Central Africa to combat bell RA to.
Combat Joseph coney if you were would you support this -- your president this is something you again.
You know in in not thinking about this He signed legislation congress -- that this is what needed to take place He signed that legislation.
As president if I would have signed that legislation.
I have have -- action plan ready to go immediately.
From all appearances this really does.
Seem to be -- side.
Bring this really seems this these are really bad actors there's a finite number of fighters 300.
Whatever that number is.
I don't know if I would be sending advisors in there as immediately after having sent the after having signed the legislation -- in a strike force to wipe them all out.
Now that's very non libertarian view.
Well I've always said genocide is something that none of us want to stand by and watch happen.
From from everything and I can ascertain from this situation this does qualify for genocide.
And I think -- threat.
When He was winning the war against the rebels in the beginning.
To to wipe out the people his opponent and -- guys who know you would send an army to go to prevent that.
No I would not having -- I did not see a military threat from.
From Libya and that's another issue here with C with -- Lord's Resistance Army.
Is that this is there they're nation homeless.
We are talking about foreign dictator here I don't think there's anything in the constitution that says.
That because we don't like a foreign leader we should go in and topple that foreign leader.
And I'm not sure I understand is that clearly the liberation army in Uganda is not a threat.
To the United States yet you would say that He would send -- strike force.
You can argue equally well -- could Qaddafi is a leader of the country or not He was a threat to the people who they've gone city.
And you would not so I'm not sure I understand -- The logic.
Well -- I'm.
These these are these are the questions and I would another thing as president of United States I would be really transparent.
Look I'm signing this legislation authorizing wiping out this the law words they're resistance arm him authorizing that -- legislation.
On the other hand going into Libya.
I heard the transparency I just didn't see the military threat and no I do not -- second C a military threat from -- at lord's resistance.
I do not see that as a threat to our national security at all since I've always ally you it's there's a lot of want to -- your grandmother is a lot of nuance and being president United States is a lot of new -- I mean you'd like to have somebody.
In charge.
I think this going to be very very transparent -- -- decisions being made what are the differences and he's he's the questions that I would be.
Asking regarding signing that legislation in the first place back to be -- Lord's Resistance Army and as the killing of AM tomorrow unlocked He what -- He -- been an American and He posed a -- financing wealth and I hate -- wasn't opposing it wasn't actually opposing that border.
It was the notion first of all this is unprecedented this is an American citizen and if I were to have signed that order and I'm not saying I wouldn't have signed that order.
Warner was the transparency.
For such an unprecedented action I would have been very very transparent.
Here is why I am ordering an assassination of a US citizen unprecedented in the history of this country.
And why I really do view this to be a national security threat.
Aside so -- guilt innocence aside.
There was no due process here and I think that that's what I'm trying to point out -- due process and I think due processes.
Really a cornerstone of the US constitution.
Let me -- change here's -- for second many people on the conservative side of things me included very much like having a libertarian in the race.
But we have there are people.
Which might be a different kind of libertarian Ron Paul is Ron -- sucking up most of the oxygen of the libertarian in the race.
Could you sort of explain where you disagree with Ron Paul -- how you differentiate yourself as a libertarian.
Well has a libertarian I -- is so.
Back to this he's you can humanitarian.
Notion that we none of us -- -- stand by for many humanitarian -- I think I have differences in in my resume in the -- really do have some executives experience.
I have been a business person who started a one man business and Albuquerque in 1974.
And actually grew to over a thousand employees.
I think there's a difference there and having that in your -- I got to serve two terms as governor of New Mexico I am not a social conservative.
Which which I happen to think is -- was statistically are the majority of Republicans that aren't being represented right now by those on stage if you well.
Governor Johnson stand by if you will we will have more with -- -- our panel after a quick break.
