I'm talking all of what wild animals.
There was a debate last night among the Republican presidential candidates who -- pretty wild themselves with -- each other.
So let's bring in our political panel to break down that debate with me in the studio David Patricia -- -- -- and presidential historian good morning David good afternoon.
I would say good morning I don't know what.
And that's -- -- get up so late add it all DC bureau Dan Ryan Clayton democratic strategists.
And founder of my favorite named website 100 proof politics dot com anything that is 100 -- is.
Fine with me I'm Ryan let me come to you first what did you make -- -- -- they they really went at each other government.
Oh yeah I was a great debate I mean please keep fighting amongst ourselves this is great news for the democratic ticket in 2012 you know it especially with the new addition of the new flavor of the month Herman Cain.
They just keep on adding the next best candidate in this race.
And -- fact is is that nobody can get excited about who everyone knows is going to be the inevitable Republican nominee and that's Mitt Romney.
And He took a few shots last night right on the -- I gotta say He didn't stand up to a very tough.
Yellow what did you think David a did did seem that Rick Perry in particular had a better performance last night and He really badly needed when -- he's gonna get back in this race He was a way.
He was -- -- And that's it -- -- received account with a lot of people I thought.
On the other hand that his attack on Romney with the immigration thing fell flat.
But on the other hand Romney's initial response which was really dissembling.
As acting as if He had never heard of this issue before.
-- second thought I was impressed by that either so that was and I think that was an exchange which really didn't help either party.
Again once again the fellow with the most substance.
I thought was Newt Gingrich.
So and and Herman Cain now reaches the level scrutiny of -- front runner and that's a dangerous place to be.
I run all -- the new Gingrich He was interesting last night in fact He He sort of -- should do Romney and Perry at one point.
About bickering and about how that's not really gonna get anybody anywhere.
He said he's the man of substance and that's why He should be the nominee.
Do you get the sense that maybe -- is finally gaining a little bit of traction.
Well it's a long.
Hard path for Newt Gingrich to be the elder statesman in our political discourse I mean this is the guy who -- scathing in the mid ninety's and went on witch -- after Democrat after Democrat.
And -- political turmoil in our country and now on the Republican side of the aisle they've taken things so far become so extreme that he's the reasonable voice in the room.
I mean I think that is needed Shaq and step back and look at somebody like John Huntsman and somebody could speak to all Americans who isn't gonna drag the debate even further to the right towards an extremity.
And -- are looking for a candidate but to represent all Americans and I'm not sure there's a single personal now we're GOP stage right now who can actually do that.
-- point David don't know actually I thought the best part of the whole debate was that John husband wasn't there.
I don't think He adds anything to it.
And there -- silly people on the stage -- it's no one gets a fair chance to lay things out but in terms of Gingrich.
You know fifty well -- longer than that now.
Eighty years ago.
There was a man named Winston Churchill and He is sort of runs I've heard of him and they had sort of what He has sort of run himself political system who He had had a thing called -- -- He had run himself out of cabinets.
And when a country finally got sufficiently.
Desperate to turn to a flawed man.
But with great substance.
And knowledge and vision.
A man who in Gingrich's case help balance the budget which now seems like -- And -- -- entitlement.
And got millions of people back to work and and and fixing their own lives.
That was Newt Gingrich and the man has tremendous talent.
And at the beginning -- process I said He was out of the race and the pays his campaign was over now.
I think He realized that and once -- stopped playing games -- like Libya or bashing the Ryan plan.
And rose above that I think he's been magnificent.
I don't -- I noticed -- and I really hope that He is beyond next new flavor of the month next month that is only good for us as Democrats.
