Welcome to another edition of Special Report on line I'm Brett bear this is our center seat segment special segment with Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul.
Thanks for sticking around a lot of people typing and by the way we have a poll up.
In our Fox News poll today you were in fourth -- in this poll online you get 49%.
Those who won't typing in a lot of questions.
Many people asking -- their variety of things this here's one.
Asking about your immigration policy guy into the defense situation they wanna know specifically.
How would you handle immigration.
That's a fairly complicated subject I've been a very long paragraph in my last book on immigration.
But basically I I think we should have more.
Border from the border patrols and border.
And better immigration work so you -- put troops on the border and I don't I don't want troops but I I want facilities I want the border guards should not the border guards with the immigration people I think we're very inept.
But I think it's an economic problem you know if we were a thriving economy.
-- be short a labor would want labor coming up.
So if economics -- -- the welfare system has something to do -- it.
Because it is true I know people argue -- on -- but it is true that some are people don't work.
Because it's they lose too much money if they go to work and I get off welfare so I think there's some of that.
So the welfare system discourage some of our workers.
But He also the mandates for the federal government are very detrimental -- -- -- we have hospitals going broken schools going broke so they come over.
And they get these free free services.
I would I would think -- think there should be no amnesty no easy way even if you have did.
Deal and I think you should you there's no way you're gonna send fifteen million people home.
But you should deal with something with that with a different category but they shouldn't get the right to vote.
Very easily there should be no rewards for breaking the law.
But I would like to see a more efficient immigration.
-- -- at the border.
In that -- the senator seat we've had Michelle Bachmann Santorum.
Even Gary Johnson and Jon Huntsman just yesterday.
Now when we asked about whether or not they would support you if you -- the Republican nominee we got.
Lot of hesitation reservations is is that the case that you will support whoever the Republican nominee yes.
Well I would adapt and check out their platform by that time I would think that they would have to have a certain position on the Federal Reserve certain position on cutting spending.
Certain position on mass civil liberties.
-- and if they shift a little bit like quite well may be able to.
Sounds like you're saying no so let me than -- I would -- that I would have to regulators' decision.
I -- saying yes okay so.
What happens then everybody in this town thinks is going to be a third party candidate and independent.
If you don't get the Republican nomination could that independent candidate B Ron Paul.
Not a local one you have to realize this say I was thinking about that.
And I said that it.
Then it would undermine what I'm -- I'm running for present him doing pretty well -- so no I'm running for president the Republican Party I'm doing very well one last time they wondered about it.
But you know the whole thing is is.
Mean for the people are really frustrate you go to New Hampshire they're more independents and Republicans or Democrats and that's true yeah this yeah.
I was -- there yeah.
You're saying is you're not saying that you will not run as well what I say He is that I have no plans to do it her so how well.
Are you beyond pledges would you pledge here tonight that you would not wrong.
And a third party.
I pledge that I have no intention of doing He hadn't.
I'm running not running.
-- Republican primary.
I didn't know I have to -- a little bit in my life -- I can't believe it from Manning who work on that sentencing.
-- I wanted it to revisit our discussion about bit of sound and laden and and the talent after the raid.
You said this.
We've created a lot of enemies because that's what the pal of -- is all about their organize and they're motivated by the fact that we're occupying their land.
Which slammed which Taliban land where we occupying on nine elevenths.
-- on 9/11 we have a major base in Saudi Arabia and a road and talk about it and they complained about it but the trauma not.
Not and I know and -- -- just I just America is in the Middle East on their holy land.
Al-Qaeda at that time on the -- -- a little bit different because.
Their goal is not to come over here al-Qaeda will come over here so that's quite a bit different but telephones -- You know people who are just gets out of their country there that's why is Afghanistan -- all.
But you know we went into Iraq -- there was no al-Qaeda there there there -- now.
Everybody who has recognizes that there's -- -- not a huge number but there are hundreds of al-Qaeda they weren't there before.
The Christians have been removed from a from Iraq and now Iraq is much closer to our -- than ever before I don't think it's much -- -- -- work.
There -- al-Qaeda in Iraq before him but I won't tell us now live look at Arizona.
Yeah you do that was really our -- and I like Charlie's ego knows I'm.
Congressman one plus one equal -- -- studio that's this person's log in what area of policy are you weakest.
Well I only held one.
Subject that I'm interest in -- and I don't consider myself -- as the defense of liberty because I think that's what America's all about and I know what -- -- I know what it means to.
Be free and what civil liberties mean what it means to the free market and also.
It advises on about -- -- foreign policy.
At the same time the founders understood this very clearly and they wrote a document which fortunately for me endorses the idea of individual liberty.
So is individual liberty I feel very strongly and I would say my week his trade would be that.
I can always improve on my delivery.
-- could and its people.
But that young people with more open minds and open hearts they seem to understand what I'm saying He used his -- and -- delivery of that non pledge.
Yeah I thought okay I can vote itself writes what is your stance on global warning warming man cost.
Partially this site but I think the radical -- months but environments have taken over just recently.
Some major publications and universities have mason reports on this.
That to me are very very strong -- -- scientist.
This says that is the way it's been way overblown so I write about that in in the book but think it then that environmentalists take advantage of it.
But to say -- you man doesn't contribute.
But does statistics that show long long term hundreds if not thousands of years we're not about.
You you know to to melt.
Besides -- -- really made me wonder about this when they took some of these same scientists now.
They've talked about warming trend Paper worried about nice age thirty or forty years ago that made me wonder you know what's going on here.
But it is the reason that we need to do don't do well for libertarians and services.
They think that if we don't endorse the EPA we don't care about the environment so I think it makes a point that we -- -- be much better in defending environment that's property rights people.
Rather insane and we have to depend on a bureaucrat from Washington making sure the environment is protected jobs.
You -- defend your liberty is there any drug.
You would not -- and -- your administration if you were in power.
-- -- -- any store and buy marijuana.
Or crack cocaine is it any that you well I didn't want me to buy -- the free market.
Yeah the way understand the constitution federal government should be in this business of legalizing anything or so that the federal government should make any -- illegals.
But the states have this authority do it I mean.
The federal government tried to make alcohol illegal and the prohibition doesn't work very well that's now gone and exactly who am yeah I know but if you compared to marijuana more -- With alcohol kills a lot more people than marijuana I -- my -- my position to my position is taking a chance you question my position is a federal government.
Should -- out because they've only been involved in about a hundred years and they've sort of messed up we stand over a trillion dollars in the war on -- hasn't done a bit ignored.
The states still have.
Prerogatives on alcohol they have -- they can protect children and do all these things so yes there's a way it's not like.
When you legalize something you endorse something he's just dealing with any different manner to the states would still have a prerogative -- -- was -- If -- a believer in liberty is a principal.
And you are saying the governor of Texas.
Why would you -- got the governor of Texas anymore want to make it illegal to purchase.
Correcting you would if you -- the president I understand the principle of federalism -- as a matter of principle.
Why would you as governor now wants to cancel all the laws in Texas that -- of the purchase -- -- That's why would you want to cancel out what the founders gave us and our documents in the it was always legal up until last century ninety UN to legalize if you haven't I would let the states to -- and and that would dad.
Maybe the way it's supposed to be done and it was that way I don't know why we've given up on liberty -- soon.
Because the argument usually if somebody legalize something this whole idea that a single you're already -- -- tell us what you're offering me.
Congressman nobody -- it because is legally his because -- they'll they'll.
On the same line a -- you have an ad out about.
And what is your position on the federal government's role in abortion.
And what should be legal and what shouldn't be legal if you make that argument on the drugs are you making the argument then that the federal government should be out of pro life pro choice -- There would be the logical conclusion button.
There's a little bit I mean when a government so much involved in medicine you about a -- make sure they don't have to use our money to do abortions the military you can have some controls there.
But the federal government and cannot -- this is the whole reason why Roe vs.
Wade made such a mess that was a Texas law they prohibited.
There is Roe vs.
Wade -- nationalize it.
Now for many -- the white people were saying.
What we need is a Supreme Court ruling and amend the constitution but they -- except my.
Which removes a jurisdiction I would remove the restriction jurisdiction in this -- the people -- On these various things and just say that if the states do something try to you know get the federal government -- that we don't want them.
The S Supreme Court legislating has again -- -- -- so I would apply the same rule to them.
So the states would make the decision -- -- federal government -- -- would do it.
-- -- -- Republican politics this week Rick Perry said it's a good it's good politics to keep the birth there issue alive.
He's gone back and forth on this but you think it's good politics to kind of problem pro poke at President Obama over where He was born.
Not only is good politics I aides -- bad politics but what I didn't wasn't about -- what what did anybody here asks whether his -- when the system.
She does a citizen.
Would that be -- -- -- Madigan would make the whole thing motive but I don't understand politics at all -- -- I never bring the subject -- state.
From when I was watching the video of your roll out of the plan to restore America -- it's surprisingly don't call for the abolition of the Fed at least not right away.
So who would your Fed Chairman -- Mean Jim Graham probably.
And what what are his main.
He's good historian.
He He could pretty -- -- No I I I don't call for you bought for about almost all the things that I have done and proposed.
Like in in medicine I want medical savings accounts I wanna transition I want the freedom of choice schools.
Just make sure we never make it illegal that we can have home schooling and private schooling.
And it just legalize competition -- money.
The bill and I hang out.
Is to legalize.
Choice take off taxes sales taxes and -- paying tax on money which is gold and silver.
Because that is the constitution still says gold -- -- is legal tender.
So but to post on the Fed tomorrow.
You know even backhand when I did was -- -- -- commissioner early eighties it was my same position I as a high exposition competing currencies.
And this way you don't have to be disruptive and -- -- close on a fifth.
The financial system is going to close itself that's -- that's what I -- that's why I think it's so desperate that we get control this budget.
Every single day we're getting closer to something bigger than we've ever had before.
What do you do to help the Europeans.
Especially if you look at what's going on in Greece the -- could have terrible repercussions on our economy the global structure we can't.
Kind of wall ourselves -- so what would Ron Paul -- if He was over at the Fed to help Greece -- or would you ignore.
And I keep my hands off because the only thing you can do is print more money.
-- it looks like you are our economy was saved by the bailouts and the -- Creating fifteen trillion dollars -- sending 55 trillion dollars overseas sure it temple -- There's also ushering in the age of inflation and it's prepared perpetuated that moment please.
All this 9% right now it is using old CPI.
It's 9% even our own government admits it is over three -- day exercise tomorrow.
Didn't start to this consumer you -- you go shopping.
Couple more questions and -- at 715 if your idea is.
Man's -- South Carolina wants to know who your VP pick would be.
I'm gonna win the nomination first before pick -- -- would like to know how.
President Paul would immediately stimulate the economy.
Immediately went down since I want the troops home.
And I can do that as president you bring the troops home from Korea and all these places have them spend all that money here.
And that it would be a little -- until we are -- our foreign policy but bring bring the troops have let him spend their money.
And -- saying -- that all they regulation is written in all the executive orders that compound our problems in the financial sector.
The president can do a lot to change that -- -- over regulated and ever attack she -- congress to get the tax is back in order.
But you need to send a signal we're gonna live within our means we're -- -- sound money organist shrink the size of the federal register.
We'll go back to sanity and have our constitution back -- Jeff says what about the fair tax where He stands.
I probably wouldn't vote for I'm not a cosponsor the fair tax is the sales tax and I I don't think it's completely fair is not fair to retired people.
And it's not fair to it's a regressive tax I think the poor you know get stuck with what -- your tax plan.
I mean I would like to get rid of the income tax and corporate tax and shrink the size of government and we don't -- -- income taxes 1913.
So where are they 000.
You mean -- tell -- yeah on them until what is the real.
President Paul going to do on taxes I do anything I can to lower.
Anything and everything tax is a burden.
But the reason I don't emphasize that as much and I'm not on any deals he's spending is attacks spending takes the money out of the community.
Then they taxes then they -- in then they print it.
And it all goes back and destroys the economy pushes the price is up for the poor and -- -- suffer more than a rich.
Of the destruction of a currency we're down we're about.
Devaluation since -- -- -- him.
When you destroy -- currency and discuss from Austrian economics.
That there's a transfer of wealth from the middle class to the wealthy.
And this is why the wall streeters are right and I'm not sure they say that the occupiers understand this.
That this is always the case and then they -- did they get the control in the power thank you can bail outs but what happens in the middle class.
They lose their jobs and they lose -- that they lose their houses.
You when you do a massive -- at the beginning of a Paul president's right doesn't that in itself affect the economy and a detrimental well I'll hit me.
Not not necessarily.
The study what happened after World War II ten million people came back.
They weren't given jobs the military budget would slash I think -- leave with fifty or 60% taxes went down.
And all of a -- jobs -- available via.
But they didn't have to worry about ten million people -- -- -- going to go and I'm not even advocating that you know.
Did -- it's gonna be through attrition through my program as He gets rid of people through attrition.
And it won't be overnight just says the Federal Reserve is through attrition and hand and through gradual changes Charles -- well.
-- -- -- -- out of left field where you're from major waterway Suez Canal -- of the Panama Canal.
So into hostile hands with what would you -- commander in -- do if anything I'd done and look at -- and study and find out if there was a threat to our national security and go to the congress.
Find out if they want to declare war -- -- -- Take care of it get over -- -- in Ireland.
Doctor Paul has delivered 4000 babies is that harder than politics.
Well I better not say when I was going to -- It's Benazir it was I was -- gonna I think it's a lot more enjoyable and you're being angry old.
You know people medicine is wonderful delivering babies who's wonderful and as my wife always says.
You know -- doctors one of the few doctors -- gives you something lot of times a doctor can certainly give me your health back.
There is something very wonderful bothered me -- -- I loved it.
And I'm like I said they didn't usually give me too much create those babies -- glad to get out.
-- need to win Iowa.
Where do you need to finish.
-- the Tom I I would I would be disappointed with third that I should I should be.
I mean if I command -- third I'm still alive and I think I better do first or second and a couple of those I have to do well on January.
Congressman Paul thank you very much for the time.
