A new report shows that the number of illegal immigrants arrested by the Border Patrol.

In the Tucson Arizona area has fallen by more than 40%.

Last year -- significant drop.

And joining us now to -- discuss so what this means is James Jones he is the former ambassador to Mexico thank you so much for joining us today.

Thank you good to be here.

So -- know what your reaction to the fact that border arrests are down a 40%.

In that Tucson area does it just suggests that there trying to enter elsewhere or is this a real decrease.

No I think it's a real deep crease and I think he can be ascribed to two basic things that we did the most important in my judgment.

Is that the administration has been cracking down on employers.

Who have jobs and the second thing is the fact that the economy is slow in the United States and they're not enough jobs around.

So if there are no jobs here I don't think you'll find illegal immigrants trying to get here.

The second -- part is the is the government's reaction.

To trying to to beef up the border with new technology with them more personnel -- center of and that combination has truly gotten the the illegal immigration.

Down and is also.

Reduced substantially.

Crime activity on the US side of the border.

But we are seeing of course -- ongoing violence along that US Mexico border.

Will we see that decrease as this is -- scenario plays out.

Well what -- Again it's a very interesting statistic on the Mexico's side of the border where these drug organizations are fighting for territory.

It has never been more insecure or more violent.

On the US side of the border it has never been more secure and more -- -- Reduced crime.

And and it all along the border the mayor's and local law enforcement officials are saying.

That crime is way down it's never been safer -- -- actually safer than it's been.

In and in many many years and now that did the thing that we have to be it accustomed to -- they're prepared for.

Is the fact that.

We have to keep up our judicial system -- keep up our law enforcement system on our side of the border.

Because if we ever let down our guard.

Then the violence that's on the Mexican side of the border will transfer over -- as long as we keep up our guard I think we're in pretty good shape.

So you mentioned that the job situation in the United States is not as inviting two Mexicans in addition to that -- Mexican economy is starting to boom I grew by 5%.

Last year so you combine that with the -- -- US market and there's not as much appeal.

Four coming up here but you also mentioned.

Did deportation aspect the fact that employers are cracking down.

In fact according to this report in fiscal 2011.

Deportations were at an all time high.

So does that suggested that cracking down on illegal.

Immigrants when -- here is a way to stem the tide of more coming.

But I think the Obama administration has to be commended because they -- a concerted effort.

To go after those who are illegal in the United States who had criminal records involved and B port windows.

And so there are about 400000 were deported I believe it was last year.

And so they've done a very good job of trying to get.

Those who have caused problems in the United States and the United States and back to their host country.

So that's a big factor in there but ever since I was in faster and I've been telling our government for fifteen or more years.

That the the the quickest way.

To stop illegal immigration.

Is to go after the employers in the United States who are learning the -- illegal immigrants to the United -- for jobs.

And once we have established that I think you'll see you read it's significantly reduction.

In in illegal immigration what I hope happens.

Is that the need for immigrants in labor in the United States will finally.

Resonate among the citizens and that they will demand that we have a a new reformed.

Immigration bill.

That actually reflects.

The number of immigrants that we need in the United States to help agriculture to help our retail establishments to help.

Manufacturing.

Etc.

One -- aspects of the immigration crackdown.

In states from the south like Alabama to this to the west like California.

Is that there's going to be a reduction in agricultural output this year.
