-- easing tensions with Iran over its nuclear program secretary of state Hillary Clinton trying to turn up the heat.

Demanding that the Islamic republic quickly respond to a blockbuster report released this week showing that Iran is on the brink.

The building a nuclear bomb -- right now former spokesperson for the last.

Four US ambassador's the United Nations joins us live Rick good to see -- Secretary Clinton said -- aren't in the coming days we expect Iran to answer the serious questions.

Raised by this report what.

Does that mean.

You know I have no idea because it's very puzzling Iran has answered.

They have consistently said that they are going ahead with their program and that it's for peaceful purposes even though the UN and others have questioned.

How they could be building in certain aspects of the program so.

I'm not sure if Hillary is trying to just ignore the problem or if she wants a different answer and -- she keeps asking the same question but.

Either way it's really puzzling the Security Council has been very clear -- they have said.

Iran must stop enriching for all uranium and -- at that -- years ago.

And Iran has said no -- in -- Iran has been hit with five different set of sanctions -- -- you know yet they proceed with impunity.

Won't more sanctions which is what the administration -- talking about proved equally fast -- especially since -- -- -- the Russians will never go along with them.

It doesn't -- essentially mean.

That the world is gonna have to be faced with a nuclear Iran unless Israel launches a tactical strike.

Well let's hope not because no one should be able to sit by and watch Iran get a new killer weapon not this president.

Not any other country that -- peace but let's let's make one thing clear.

In 2006.

The international atomic energy agency which is a UN body.

Referred to the Iran matter to the Security Council that was an early 2006.

The Bush Administration responded with five consecutive Iran resolutions immediately.

And and by the time the Obama administration came into office we had.

A building pressure on the Iranians it wasn't working but it was -- what the Obama team decided to do is relieve that pressure.

They have produced one resolution.

On Iran since they've been in office and they have done nothing for seventeen months.

Nothing at the security council on Iran for seventeen months so you ask yourself how the Iranians are getting a message that the world.

Is gonna you know not allow them to get a nuclear weapon I don't think so because the Obama administration has been weak and the and the clock ticks look Israel has been testing a long range ballistic missile it's also -- up its own missile defenses.

How likely or plausible.

Is a preemptive strike by Israel in what would be the blow back in the region.

Well you know first of all we have to say that we hope diplomacy works I wish that sanctions would have work that was that we would have been able to continue.

Putting sanctions on but this administration told us they decided to take it off so now I think.

We've got to decide are you gonna allow Iran to get a -- -- weapon or he's gonna take it out militarily.

And I think we've been forced into a corner on this by the Obama administration and I hope that Israel responds or we respond with them.

To stop the Iranians can get in and if you're right and it's a game changer -- game play this thing if Israel does not act -- in Iran succeeds in building nuclear weapons.

-- that invariably trigger a dangerous arms race in the Middle East with Saudi Arabia and Turkey and -- Egypt seeking nuclear bombs.

And would that be far worse then.

The blow back sparked by an Israeli strike.

Of course it would be it would be catastrophic because.

There would absolutely be competition in the Arab world to get a and -- -- weapon and let's be let's be very frank.

There are other countries that will immediately try to pursue one as well you've got African countries in Latin American countries who are gonna say all bets are off.

And we are absolutely gonna go for one ourselves and you've got the technology out there from -- con with a Pakistani scientist who was allowed to take kids.

Knowledge and give it to a lot of different countries.

And you've got the north Koreans out there who are selling their technology so you can get this technology and someone needs to stand up and say this is absolutely wrong and we are not allow we're not gonna allow this to -- even the series got it out before.

Before the Israelis took out there the nuclear weapons.

The -- -- containment it worked with the Soviets because they were and you can say many things about the Soviets they were at least in the Kremlin rational.

But -- Ron is regarded as a fanatical if not maniacal regime and here's what the Wall Street Journal wrote this week.

Iran is a regime shaped by -- -- messianic cult of martyrdom.

One that sent thousands of children to clear minefields during the Iran Iraq War.

It looked -- with the threat.

Of nuclear retaliation against the Iranians.

Fail.

As a deterrent because of their mindset.

You know maybe I think that's a very real question to ask but there are enough people in Iran that love peace there -- very Smart and advanced country.

That I that I would hope that the you know we talk a lot about the moderates I hope they moderates would stand up and stop this from happening but again I have to go back I know it sounds like a broken record.

But the only way containment is gonna work is if you absolutely keep the pressure on and -- consistent and real fashion.

This administration has done nothing on Iran for seventeen months.

How can we allow this to happen you cannot with a straight face say that your putting pressure on the Iranians.

Like Secretary Clinton is saying she's waiting for an answer while they answered seventeen months ago madam secretary.

And frankly someone needs to stand up and do something more than just allow it to happen you know we've we've got a history with the clintons.

I'm allowing things to happen like with the USS Cole.

There was no response after the the attacks by al-Qaeda on Americans that the USS Cole.

So somebody needs to stand up in this administration and say.

We are gonna do what we're gonna allow the Israelis to do it.

But time is running out all right Rick -- NL who served as spokesman for four.

United Nations ambassadors -- good to see you thanks.

Thanks guys.
