Well we are awaiting a major announcement from the so called the go big coalition -- now -- More than a week until the bipartisan super committee's deadline for a deal to rein in spending and help solve the debt crisis and -- -- had this large group of senators and house members.
Who are urging the super committee.
To go big and has a major deal that has tax increases and big cats and they say this to go big coalition they say they're gonna back whatever happens here.
Congressman Mike Simpson is joining -- -- Republican of Idaho -- senator Michael Bennet a Democrat.
A Colorado a -- have both severe prospective senator Bennett -- this is your first German congressman.
I believe this is your seventh term -- to make you feel old there.
But you're fact that hey -- veterans -- maybe I'll start with you congressman -- is a major announcement that we're gonna hear and a couple hours.
Well we're gonna get together with senators -- first time that the house.
Go big coalition a 103.
Representatives that we've got that signed this letter encouraging super committee -- go big.
And the 46 senators.
And we're gonna continue to push even though is we've got about a week left that we need to go big every organization that's look at this.
Has said that we've got to get to the four trillion dollar savings.
With this plan if we're gonna affect the long term deficit of this country the dead of this country so.
We just want to do everything we can't to encourage them to to go big in that all options have to be on the table that includes mandatory spending discretionary spending and revenue.
That we're just adding we're just lending support to that committee.
Is it revenue -- that -- taxes in some parts in that get back to and that congressman in just a moment -- senator Bennett your perspective on this.
-- you seem to Begin gathering some momentum is still big coalition do you think you're being heard by the super committee.
I I I hope we're being heard and I -- small look in the world but all on kind of news is represented and reflect.
The voices of people that I hear in my state of Colorado Republicans Democrats.
And independents who for months have been saying to me Michael you know we wanted to -- -- conference play in the -- addresses the problem.
We wanna know -- -- all in this together and we wanted to be bipartisan because we don't believe neither parties go -- alone.
Approach and I think it's very important that there -- a hundred more than a hundred house members about 45 senators that have signed on.
-- documented merely states the obvious which is we cannot address the issue that we face.
From fiscal standpoint we can't satisfy the capital markets -- -- -- we're looking at as the congressman -- discretionary spending entitlement reform and tax reform.
The -- -- that answer and the people who might Stater demanding.
Senator Bennett on that just as someone Neil -- -- the game.
I'm just curious if if this legislation -- or in this legislating in general.
It is tough as it looks and I'm curious is your observations it what do you see that maybe your party can be doing better.
Eight in the efforts to reach compromise.
I think it I think that we need to make sure that people understand that.
We did there that they're people that realize and our party that the current.
-- Are entitlements is not sustainable.
That for the sake of preserving those and also do with our fiscal house that we need to seriously look at it and that's what people in my state.
But I think it's gonna take everybody working together get this done you mention that it looks difficult it is difficult because this is a town that makes things much harder than they need to be.
There's not a mayor in my stated Tea Party member Republican or Democrat -- would ever threaten the credit rating of their own community for politics it would never happen.
And what we've got to stop doing his coloring outside the lines here in Washington and actually do.
Deal that makes sense to the American people going forward and that's what congressman instances tried to leave where he's tried that was.
Sheriff and kind of his sense -- let's talk a little bit about that leadership because you mention revenue being on the table on that or at least from the outside looking in -- -- -- to know exactly what's happening within the super committee.
How -- was a line that wasn't gonna be -- by Republicans no new taxes no revenue raising of any sort but it seems like there's a little bit of a different tune.
And I'm curious as to -- specifically you would support when it comes to revenue being part of a debt deal of any type.
Well general that's one of the issues that have.
Actually scared off some of the Republicans.
From signing the letter that believe that this is the right thing to do in fact I think an overwhelming number of members of congress know that this is the right thing to do -- there is no credible plan out there is a credible plan.
To to addressing this -- gets us to the port trillion dollar mark without including revenue.
Now some people think that means increasing tax rates.
I don't think that's necessary I think you can actually get additional revenue by decreasing tax rates and eliminating the exemptions underneath.
Broadening the base she'll get more revenue.
In and you can use that to reduce the the -- of the country.
So that's what I'm looking -- I think that's -- a lot of members are looking at -- fundamental tax reform that makes it fair.
That you know it.
We've got so many loopholes where -- can make such a profit and not pay any taxes that's just not right there are cheating.
They're just taking advantage of loopholes that exist some that we need to go after.
Well mobile I'm looking forward to this announcement coming up as you mentioned that 230 this afternoon we had to -- -- six at a super committee we got the go big coalition are ready for our.
I've sent in that's gonna work gentlemen and we always -- -- get our work at half amen to that.
That it that's true for the newsroom as well as as for congress is well I think you both for joining us and therefore to have -- back.
