We welcome to our -- -- tonight the governor of Texas and currently a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination.
Rick Perry welcome governor thank you good to be here waiting -- thanks for -- first of the breaking news today about the failure of the super -- your reaction to this morning's.
Frankly what a lot of us expected.
When you -- being the president United States you get Lee and this president has not let on this issue.
We know what the problem is we're spending too much money were taxing.
Way too much.
And as -- the reasons -- laid out that.
20% flat tax.
To get Americans back work and again and that's what this was always about.
How we're gonna get America's back working again.
And and this president has I mean you think about it.
He was looking for somebody to blind.
He didn't want to be in a leadership position and I think this was a contrived.
Opportunity for -- how to pitch this over to congress now congress is fouled out.
Well that's one of the reasons and I'm calling for part time legislature because I think Americans are fed up.
Being so broke down so corrosive that they can't fix anything.
And a present a United States is -- and -- that kind I think Americans -- -- is you know -- all the way.
Cut their pay in half.
You know cut their staffs and have and if they don't have a balanced budget on the -- me by twenty point cut to pay in half again.
Governor where I ask every candy comes and -- seat about the path.
That they will take to the nomination the latest national polls the average of polls.
Have you at eight point two percentage scroll through here you can see that the numbers and then in Iowa you're down at 6%.
And in New Hampshire -- 2% so how how do you get the nomination where you have to win is Iowa -- crucial.
Well all the states are crucial but you go in and you talk about your plan -- and you talk about your vision I got in light I understand that.
We laid out our policy on how to get Americans back work and about.
A month ago the first obvious that we laid out the second part of the weather 40% flat tax and the spending cut balancing the budget.
And -- -- just last week we laid out our.
Opportunity to talk about how to restructure Washington DC -- To deconstruct if you will and part time legislators some people say you were you can't do that -- -- today there are a lot of states it works really well and in my home state Charles.
140 days every other year -- the thirteenth largest economy in -- world.
We get our business done those legislate -- they have jobs back home that they go work.
That stay with their constituents.
And we make it work -- first or second in Iowa.
Either what okay help.
And governor you speaking of legislators failing you've reacted pretty sharply to the revelations about the senators and congressman selling stocks and it's seeming to use insider knowledge to profit themselves what would you do about that well I think first thing you do is passed FISA legislation that clearly says that it's it's -- I mean any congressman any senator who has.
Used insider information.
If you did it -- go to prison I mean that's how bad that would be bad that.
-- added it would be bad -- a congressman or senator any of these individuals that are sitting there today.
I challenge Nancy Pelosi active to come debate she was busy as you said.
And I guess I think she wants to forget.
What she has done and how she his.
Profited by this but I'm John as she needs to get all that information to the SEC that the SEC investigate if there is a member of congress are senator.
Who has used their position to profit.
Any other person that the members of this Texas State Legislature.
Buy and sell stocks -- sure you have laws that you have laws about that at the state level that oh absolutely we have transparency.
And and in the state of Texas.
And no one should be able to use there is a matter of fact if you did that assay detection you'd be investigated by the Travis County district attorney's office are geared to -- Charles.
Governor are aware of the virtues of your flat tax.
Is -- -- any flat tax is that it eliminates all loopholes.
And it's simple.
But you are through the taxpayer choice between 20% or the old and corrupt system.
So doesn't that leave in place all of the loopholes.
All of the opportunity for sharp lawyers and accountants and all of the possible corruption in the old system and it doesn't actually cure it.
The reason we leave that old system and places -- there's there's going to be a few folks out there.
Who have set their business model up 22 used the old system but the vast majority of the people we think about it and and matter of fact I'm glad you brought is there it is.
That is -- is happy to have just happened to have that yeah I brought props.
That's you fill that out 20%.
You take the deductions for charitable detected deductions for your local taxes you take the deductions for your mortgage.
-- -- cap gains get rid of the dividends tax -- 20% of that.
To get on that -- even Tim Geithner will get his in on time.
If but if the reason is not to upset people -- -- plan that's why don't you have a sunset provision.
-- after critically it's a good idea and one worth.
Exploring yes so he put it off absolutely excellent would you endorse it right now -- let me explored a little bit more but it is a -- Charles does make it makes some sense that.
To give a period of time as you know we did the same thing -- offshore dollars.
That one point 61 point seven trillion dollars -- out there offshore that's taxed at 35%.
At five point 25% five a quarter percent that's what our economic.
Expert said it was it was a bit of a good right to bring that money and and to create the jobs American chamber of commerce and create 3.5 million jobs just bring -- that money back him one trillion dollar so.
An example of how we set a sense that.
And might be a good -- to do that on the closest one.
Our governor you know a lot of concerns got very upset with you after you said that.
Giving in state tuition to children of illegal immigrants was a good idea in people who didn't support it really had no heart I think was -- quote and.
And it should have gotten upset well why did she said it was an insulting thing to say okay -- hold on let's -- let's stick with the idea.
Is the case that the Republican Party is hostile.
To immigrants not at all as a matter of fact when you think about the state that -- represent and our population is of approaching 3738%.
Hispanic my brother in -- Hispanic.
Mexico as our number one trading partner.
But we understand.
The important issue is securing that border we know that that border is being used.
For a host of illegal activities.
To and including Iran.
Working with the Zeta cartels to come into this country to commit an act of -- to murder.
A Saudi diplomat we know Hamas and Hezbollah.
That border has to be.
Secure government that's not the most that most legal cameras are not involved with illegal drugs or terrorism on -- -- and if you order your attitude in that debate suggested.
That you -- and I think the Texas chamber congress saw.
An important point in giving education to those children who were in your state.
Listen we have.
As governors to make decisions and that was a decision Texas.
But what I said about people that didn't agree with me that was.
That was Meyer what do you think and you think my hair was in saying that people didn't agree with what.
We -- taxes were heartless that was incorrect it was it was an insult to them and I shouldn't have said it.
Because I do respect individuals all across this country and their opinion about that.
In Texas that's what we decided do but were forced to do it.
-- cause this federal government has been such abject failure at securing our border I know how to secure the -- you put the boots on the ground.
You put the strategic -- in place the aviation assets in the air.
And I guarantee within twelve months after I'm sworn -- as president -- state that border will be shut down and it will be secure.
Bin Republicans took a more moderate position wouldn't that help them with the Hispanic vote which is critical to the parties I think -- Hispanic voter in America wants to see that border secure.
They have that they don't want terrorists use and that border with well and that's my point -- did you know to try to say somehow noted that the Hispanic voter.
Is different than than anybody else they're not.
They want jobs they're fourteen -- and people sitting out there around the kitchen table tonight watch in the show and they're sitting there and they're asking the question.
Who is it.
-- -- those candidates this gonna get this economy going.
And I've laid out an economic plan that'll get this economy going we and I happen to think a whole lot of good -- to see a part time legislature.
We hope fourteen million watching tonight -- really didn't governor thank you are gonna turn now to another panel after a quick time.
