Congress can you spare a dime.

There's a new initiative that citizens demand.

The government reduce spending by 10% it every -- federal agency 10% every federal agency maybe that will solve this super committee failure.

Would tell us about this.

It will help needless to say and of course this is a take off on brother can you spare a dime the most famous song I during the Great Depression.

Assuming my father certainly reminded me of over the years fortunately still around -- 92 to remind you about a lot of things and everyone talks about this Great Recession and how.

That brings back some memories clearly it's not the same but.

This is what any business or home would do when they're faced with the financial.

Disaster you have to start reducing your spending first.

And the super committee issue really revolves around the role of government.

What people think the government should or shouldn't be doing and whether or not anyone really should be -- any single penny more to Washington when they can't stop spending so much money they're spending more money not less correct.

Right and even with -- save a -- campaign the debt still will increase over the next ten years.

To put in perspective that would save about four trillion dollars similar to what's been discussed among various groups and various plans.

But -- -- solely on the spending side certainly this has happened in the past.

Between the Korean War and World War II.

Non defense spending was cut by between twenty and 35%.

Of the country survived we defended ourselves we moved on.

And now we just have a massive increase over the past three years the debt has increased by almost four trillion this would just keep us even -- -- what's been increased.

As you mention that we all know anyone who bounces their own budget knows that if you have less money to spend you have to.

Start making some -- you have to spend less on grocery you have to go out a little less.

The government doesn't seem to want to do that or be able to do that -- agree on how to do that and that is a big part of the problem isn't.

I think that's one of the reasons that they were so many new freshman Republican.

Voted in last year who didn't have past experience who.

Came here saying they would reduce the size and scope of government house is certainly -- lot of bills along those lines -- -- -- we have people we have people like John Kerry saying.

We just need to tax the rich that's not the way to solve the problem what we've seen a lot of local jurisdictions even state governments that have been faced with these economic.

Crisis is that.

Have trend.

In ways that may have hurt people they they cut back on fire services -- cut back on police overtime they.

They cut back on sanitation -- whatever they could do or had to do then they felt.

-- balance their own budget.

What kind of sacrifices might Americans have to make for congress to balance its budget.

Again there are so many extra programs term Washington you could do much of this without affecting any thing.

The Government Accountability Office issued a report in march of this year easy to find on their web site.

Which identified hundreds of duplicative programs eighty plus programs for economic development.

My favorite is the government the federal government has 56 programs to teach financial literacy at the same time the government's going broke.

We shouldn't have a single program.

That teaches financial literacy that's up to the states and local governments and schools.

Government shouldn't be in that business at all and that would save millions of dollars just.

Look at the duplication like anyone else would under these circumstances with this massive red ink but it's not happening com.

We have to force it to happen as honey -- Well one of the reasons we started this campaign and simple to understand come to our web -- CA GW dot org sign our citizens to man.

And the more we get this message out.

The easier it is for people to go up to their representatives and say why can't just -- a dime out of federal spending.

And I don't know what their answer would be -- -- and that it it would be difficult to argue against that concept.

Until he gets of the politics of all we can't touch Social Security or Medicare entitlements.

We just have to leave things alone.

Well all those programs are going broke by their own estimate them by their own record -- of the consequences of not doing anything are far greater than just cutting ten cents out of every dollar we spend I'm shot president Citizens Against Government Waste Tom thanks very much for -- Comments and your plan.

We appreciate you being -- -- have a safe and happy holiday.
