Introduce our first -- -- to garabedian.
President of the box office division of Hollywood dot com welcome Paul nice to see him.
Hi Ashley how -- did thank you so for those who may remember our pit wall movie preview we don't want to cover we try to get it all and.
There is a lot to cover -- mean holiday movie season is huge it's a very important part -- Hollywood.
It -- summer movie season is 40%.
Of the total -- box office and that runs about yo fifteen weeks this is about eight weeks but it -- for 20%.
The full year box office of the holiday movie season.
Very very important.
Now account let's start with Thanksgiving how to Thanksgiving do just -- sound right.
Yeah I would shocked me because the level.
Movies that were out there and the number of family films -- five.
Family films out there plus twilight.
And you know you had the newcomers like Arthur Christmas and Hugo.
And.
You -- and the Muppets and those films did well but I was thinking maybe we could have rivaled the record that was set -- nine.
Of 273.
Million dollars we're gonna come -- way below that probably the fifth biggest Thanksgiving ever which isn't a terrible thing.
But I thought with this mix of movies we could have seen a record.
And that's a little bit worrisome for Hollywood luckily though we have a lot of big films -- talk about that are on the way.
-- -- the cavalry it will arrive and you know kind of reverse this downtrend.
That's -- president's say so there's -- moving powered.
And part of that are in these big franchises.
So I know there's one on your list in particular highlight Tom Cruise.
And I -- Mission Impossible for.
-- Absolutely Mission Impossible four is directed by Brad Bird JJ Abrams -- -- Mission Impossible three -- -- -- executive producing on this one.
Unique choice for director Brad Bird is done some of the Pixar movies animation director.
And you know on this film I thought well maybe it's getting a little long in the tooth media MI PM the Mission Impossible franchise is getting a little long in the tooth.
But boy I see a lot of footage from this film it looks amazing.
And IMAX is doing a five day -- so in other words you'll be able to see -- -- before.
It IMAX.
Five days before its regular release -- screens so I think that'll get a lot of people hyped up and talking about this film looks really good to me.
Now and now there's also a potential franchise of people in talking about for -- -- now the girl with the drag intact -- Now I don't know if you know you guys have read the bugs and at what you're thinking about you know -- the US -- -- this movie but what I heard Paul.
Well then the thing got me really excited about this movie first balls -- David Fincher is directing it obviously.
There were the independents specialized.
Art house film versions of of the girl to dragon tattoo and the other books.
That came out a -- a year in two years ago and now Sony is bringing a you know a big budget version of the girl -- dragon tattoo.
I it to the big screen.
Would -- though is that teaser trailer which had this really cool -- reds and her version of Led Zeppelin song.
You done this really the visuals were amazing Daniel Craig is is in the movie.
And that's what I think is going to do very well -- right around Christmas time.
And again if all the people who are fans of the book -- Larsson books come out to see this film I think he could be a big movie.
And one of our -- chatter is -- not Sherlock Holmes stud number -- pulls up.
Not let me know when you think I mean as -- was part two Sherlock Holmes anticipated do really well the box up just.
Yeah well you know the it's instinct two years ago in 209.
We had the biggest holiday season ever.
And Albert -- -- shipments and Sherlock Holmes two movies which are coming back.
This holiday season were in that market place I think people are very excited -- Sherlock Holmes.
This one looks really cool to me game of shadows I think -- is the subtitled foreign -- and what did you -- and Robert Downey junior in these roles they're very appealing.
The original film released in note nine as I said the extraordinarily -- box office and it's a worldwide.
Phenomenon I think people -- interest in worldwide in the Sherlock Holmes character and everybody kind of loves Robert Downey junior especially in this role.
Yeah up and you mentioned -- in the chip monks carrying.
One of the -- comments and love love how managed it monthly and the quick clip from that movie so check it out.
No I am here staying here and go apologize for everything.
And I had.
IRA -- and with that of course Alvin.
I end it will be many you mentioned and there's a lot of family friend -- how about holiday Christmas themed movies.
Yeah well I mean there haven't -- but look -- fact last year there were no Christmas themed movies it's when he says this year we have Arthur Christmas.
Which actually opened this weekend only -- about fifteen million dollars this weekend.
But I think that'll play well and get a little boost around the holiday period.
And you know there was -- Harold and Kumar Christmas in 3-D which I don't know if that'll get revived you know towards christmastime.
But you don't.
Having Mission Impossible for.
Alvin and the chip monks.
Sherlock Holmes girl with the dragon tattoo the adventures -- Tintin.
War horse in that right there those are two Spielberg directed movies this looks like a really strong holiday period.
What concerns me more is that thinking that this Thanksgiving would be a big record breaker and it didn't happen.
I'm cautiously.
You -- looking forward to the holidays and hoping.
That audiences will come out in big numbers and that they're not sort of checked out doing other things so but I think it's a great.
Lineup of films including a lot of Oscar contenders on the other end of the spectrum smaller films that I think we'll draw audiences looking for sort of antidote.
To the day holiday blockbuster yet.
