And moving on now very interesting article on our website -- Fox News the Latino.

Actually and it's written by the former US attorney general judge Alberto Gonzales and he.

Joins us now live to discuss his latest article as well as other topics -- thank you for joining us judge live from Nashville today.

It's good to be with you.

All right does so article I you're talking about what we just heard -- reporting on the withdrawal of troops from Iraq and you asked the question is Iraq -- completed mission.

Saying President Bush envisioned a democratic state there the first domino to fall in the transformation of the Middle East from a region of countries worldwide -- that's.

21 of State's world by the will of the people.

We also hoped for now ally in the war on terrorism and a -- -- government aligned with our interests.

You go want to say you're not sure where there.

I'm not sure that we'll know we'll know for for several years quite frankly.

You know I think we're moving to the next chapter in Iraq and hopefully that chapter is gonna show a country that is that has -- by the will of the people.

And I I wrote the article simply to highlight the fact that you know the United States has invested a lot of time.

A lot of lives lot of energy in the transformation of Iraq.

And and we have to ask ourselves whether or not is this is this withdrawal premature -- is it right at this time.

I think one of the most fixing things said by the officer just interviewed is that.

He said we're still at war this is still a very dangerous situation very.

You know fluid situation and you know I think we've we've worked very very hard.

To ensure that the Iraqi People can provide for themselves -- the Iraqi Government can provide security.

To provide services.

-- time will tell whether or not we've got enough and whether or not this withdrawal is premature not what is the worst case scenario in your view.

Well of course I think Iran is gonna hand it a tremendous influence in the future of Iraq and so.

We have to worry about that the influence of Iran we have to worry about the influence of al-Qaeda and that country and of course there are still warring factions within the country itself.

And again the question is whether or not what what is gonna replace that of the current structure and can't and in Iraq and we have fought very very hard to ensure that the people of Iraq have a say in the future of their country and hopefully that will be the result of the of the sacrifices that -- made there.

All right and then you can read an article for more on that topic we want to move -- a few other topics so one of them operation fast and furious a few of our viewers asking us to.

Ask you your view of this botched gun running sting operation.

I don't know all the facts here of course congress is very much engaged in trying to get to the bottom of what happened here and it's.

Obviously it's a very very unfortunate what that that that this operation may result of -- did result.

And the death.

The US.

Person but let me just emphasize that even during the Bush Administration it is true.

We had a great deal of concern.

Expressed to us by the Mexican government about the number of guns coming over the border illegally in the Mexico.

And I think something like sixty to 80% of the crimes committed in Mexico.

Or facilitated by guns coming across the border illegally and so obviously that was something.

The President Bush asked the Department of Justice other agencies to focus on to see what what what could be done.

Two.

Two stymied the flow of illegal guns across the border and and we did look at various programs.

-- in to try to achieve that objective and.

You also wanna to weigh in on the unfolding sex scandals that two very prominent universities.

Right now Syracuse and Penn State.

Was enough done back at the time that the initial allegations were made in both of these separate cases.

Well that's that's a very difficult question was -- done at that at you know initially and -- obviously.

What's important here.

He is to conduct a thorough investigation often times.

The facts you know at the beginning of of an incidental or scandal.

I went to -- -- -- you discovered the fact very very different than what you believe and be at at the outset.

I think that you all universities have an obligation to ensure.

Listed missing young people children that are there they're safe from sexual predators unfortunately in this country we do have problems sexual predators and and universities have an obligation insurers to create an environment what -- children are safe.

And you know I think that these universities needed needed -- taken very.

And detailed investigation take a hard look at what what happened here they need to identify the scope of the of an investigation that they're going to do.

They need to work close closely with law enforcement to ensure that whatever they do in terms of an internal investigation.

Doesn't conflict with their investigation.

They need to.

And that that the university needs -- -- Due to find out what what we know in terms of the facts of the investigation and they need to develop an investigative plan to try to get to the -- what happened here so.

There's a lot of what they need to be done to try to identify the story try to try to learn the -- about what exactly what happened here.

If there was an attempt to downplay or cover up these accusations -- when they were first made.

If you believe that this is up about concern for a university's reputation.

Well no I think clearly I think clearly that everyone is concerned about about the reputation and -- mercy worked very hard to build up.

To build out their reputation that one of things I learned working government working in the White House.

Is that if there is -- doing it it's very very extremely difficult in this day and time there with with that technology that exists today.

To cover that up and to answer really hope that you can maintain secrecy of of wrongdoing and so it seems to me any responsible university president.

And governing entity like the board -- regions.

Is gonna quickly understand that if there's even a hint of wrongdoing.

They need to get you get out front of that.

And take responsible -- to try to find out what happened and also to try to work as closely -- -- -- With with authorities investigating any potential wrongdoing.

Our -- Alberto Gonzales former US attorney general thank you so much for joining us live from Nashville.

And we want to remind our viewers again he is a regular contributor to our Fox News Latino.

Web -- and his current article is up right now it's what we discussed earlier is Iraq a completed mission a good read and thank you again judge for joining us.

Thank you.
