The president has Carlin John -- just mentioning is headed -- Kansas right now he's expected to call once again for extending payroll tax cuts for millions of Americans.

Republicans -- Democrats are -- able to agree on a plan so far and compromise suggested by Democrats yesterday.

Has been greeted with surprise so far by the GOP let's talk to the man who's behind that compromises and democratic senator.

Bob Casey at Pennsylvania us to senator Casey we get the talk about policy is both procedure and the start with procedures to get back.

That out of the way first you know the reaction from the Republicans and they heard about this compromise bill they said.

We don't know anything about it we don't know about the details so set the record straight -- here did you sit down and hash -- out with Republicans.

-- did you look to sit across the table face to face and then they come up with this compromise bill.

No we didn't sit down but of -- that the way you come up with a compromise by proposing ideas that the other side would find acceptable.

In this revised version.

Of the payroll tax cut legislation what we're trying to do is cut the payroll tax in half for workers.

As you know at the end of -- -- -- we -- it from six point two to four point two.

I think we just haven't -- -- three point one putted half and be very clear about that I think Republicans can support that I think Democrats will well in addition to that.

Because there -- the Republicans -- to take out.

Any -- any.

Payroll tax cut for small businesses.

We took that out I didn't wanna do that but I did that because in the interest of compromise and finally with regard to the surtax I know a lot of Republicans did want to support.

A level of 3.2 five so we cut that back down -- one point nine and I think that's a reasonable.

Compromise you can arrive at a compromise.

And a lot of different ways I think this is legislation.

Which will give certainty to taxpayers at the end of the year whether their family or small business that their payroll tax because.

Any mention Republican supporting you mentioned Democrats support as well on it like to talk to little bit about the support of the members.

In your own party as you know the first proposal that was put out by Democrats and Republicans on this both failed but -- many Democrats voted against the Democrat proposal as well as safe for Democrats are three Democrats and one independent.

Voted against the democratic proposal because.

Eight raise taxes.

And so why do you think making this tax when it comes to the tax in the millionaire temporary.

Rather than permanent.

Is going to get members of your own party on board to support the -- We'll let let's be clear the first version that I introduced last week that we voted on got 51 votes the Republican alternative got one.

So I think we made a lot of progress last week and I think Democrats and Republicans can come together in a reasonable way to say.

That the wealthy few and America can help us pay for a payroll tax cut cutting in half as I said before for a 160.

Million.

Workers it would affect.

More than six point seven million pennsylvanians this is the right thing to do we -- -- last year you have the nice partisan way and because of what we did last year.

We had substantial private sector job growth.

For several months and then the economy.

-- the wrong direction we've got to continue to move this economy forward.

And the way you create demand.

It by putting.

I hope at least a thousand but as much as 15100 dollars in the take home pay for our workers that's what a lot of families are telling us they could use right now do you have about sent.

We don't know yet but we're working on this week and that hopefully get a vote by the end of the week and see where we are but I think.

We've got to continue to work together and I think we can do this in a bipartisan.

One senator can consider Casey appreciate the time when -- when -- up against a deadline for this before the end of the year so we appreciate the time you -- share with us sir thank you thank you.
