Box car port I'm Gary gas -- you know they say if you wanna change the world you gotta think globally.

And act locally would think at the world to do they think in California that's my first guest here is done.

Jimmy Rogers the founder of local motors one of the pioneers probably -- pioneer the idea of crowd sourced.

Car building thanks for coming by thanks Gary -- has yet.

Back on the show.

Lot going on at local -- but I -- wanna bring people up to speed again about what it is you guys do this idea of crowd sourced designed to cars.

Just real briefly with -- let's talk about what it is really what it means is that.

Already got a community out there that buys cars they tell you what's it like it's what you don't but they don't really have an opportunity to say before the targets created what it should be.

And so we've done is we've got them together we said let's give you a place to come and tell me what you want before we actually make it and that's the notion of crowd creating a car and then we helped put it on the road.

To tap into the Internet you've got a community of people out there with ideas designers engineers I -- that sort of thing.

And what is you put a programmer out there who say this is the type of thing we're looking to build.

And then you get the -- people out there yeah I think one of the key things is not only be put -- out there but we're also putting it out both physically and Internet wise so we have this big online community we also a lot of people -- physically come to a little factory.

And together both physically and on line they've responded that parameter and make a vehicle.

First vehicle was the very exciting rally fighter right exotic sports car for off road this -- just wild.

But how does this work you've got a lot of people working on this Garten who gets credit for it and I think more importantly to some people who gets paid for -- -- look at that there were as -- -- a great question 150 people contributed from our community to the rally -- we had a designer did the exterior -- -- -- and we had an interior designer from Romania and you have had a -- into the interior.

We people to decide -- -- -- -- -- the headlights.

Basically you name it there were lots of people that contributed.

But the where community works is if you come up with the design of the car if you were the person that set I design a car at the beginning but we said as you get the money for two sung ho Kim won prizes -- about 20000 dollars from local motors to make the rally fighter.

And we're low volume production cars so you know he had a choice to say I would not like to take cash at this point and if you turn this into millions of vehicles I'd like to be part of the royalty stream.

But at the point we didn't know how many we were gonna make and he didn't know whether we'd ever be successful so I think he felt like the cash was a good thing to take the time and we were happy to add it to him because he's done great work and all of the other people that won competitions won money also from local motors and that's just the beginning.

We did that was probably 150 people.

About ten of which one major competitions if you will for one -- -- another.

And dad we'd like to be doing it with hundreds and thousands of designers in the future for future vehicle projects for us and for other companies coming of these -- of adults -- -- exit I guess actually the customers themselves are building these games yes that's right because first -- -- build them you know are micro factory.

And we put 25 of them on the road we just wanted to production this year.

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- And so when we do that that's exciting to a car company.

This is something that's different that comes from us -- yes we've been talking auto makers about improving their innovation pipeline and getting them faster.

To something that their customers would actually like that their engineers can except now the rally fighter was the first step in this they've created something called the forge and I was this different than.

What you did the first ever throughout the -- was an accident that actually like in between that we've built -- vehicle for the US military.

So they came to us let's send the flip mode so that was an in between project which was literally put the Defense Department on its head.

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- For that combat theater with the enemy in mind that's fighting you today.

Not something that was delivered.

-- the and it will work to work you know the Korean War or.

On down the line at a different time.

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- And I think it legitimately is gonna change the way the vehicles are prepared in the future and I'm sure -- people that are -- watching us from Raytheon and Boeing and other places like that and a hate to hear that this could be sped up.

Course they're engineers and big ticket -- love to speed up the process but they don't want to be at the expense.

Of large profit margins we think there could be like profit margin in the future it's just gonna shrink.

How much you have to -- at the top line considerably less expensive to make the bottom line.

Okay back to the Ford -- just like it what's going a little piece of the -- is literally an embodiment of the co creative living room if you wanna put it that way that already exists in -- -- -- the beginning and really what it is an expanded ability to get tools and products.

Together so we are offering now the first.

On line.

Computer aided design software which means you can rent it month by month and downloaded online from our site that's a tool would ever existed before you can now look at -- parts on our site.

Free of charge where you can just.

A political part.

And you could start to spin it around a screen in measuring you can dimension it and he can download the part if you want to work hard it's never been available for co creative.

You can look at industrial designs you can sort of your favorite users' needs repair your -- -- And what also is happening in the background is as you like things and as you get -- for things that you say or do on the site.

He begins to track your participation and as -- -- patient patient in the future we're going to be able to tell you who.

Paid who was responsible for more of a design than others and that's -- you really track people who co created something together so this is all in the -- it's embedded and you'll see it grow and change would offer new products and their new things that come on board but it took a real shift for our website we really had to graduate and do something -- very different what's the product it's focused on right now oh well there's today there's no limit to right now they're over 60000 designs on the site and so just because we highlight one we're working on a show project right now with the shell oil company.

And their game changer program run by -- great team.

They came to us and said let's highlight a project on the porch so we're gonna highlight a project for -- it's called the driven competition.

And the driven competition is basically going to be taking five regions of the world.

And they're gonna be Iraq Brazil India Amsterdam in Houston.

And we're actually cities in excess of Basra Iraq and we're going to be to -- city need to the other countries.

And those places the show corporation has delivered ideas from each of those areas of what -- future fuel vehicle look like there.

And our communities gonna go to work running competition show will offer the money for the prize in a competition it will result in a vehicle for each of those long term does local owners wanna be a car manufactured you wanna be the ones building the cars.

Do you wanna be the ones developing them in this cloud based since the system local motors has always been our mission has been.

To change the game in the creation of game changing vehicles we wanted to basically create game changing vehicles that is and we have to build them all but it means that we -- -- -- the box.

And we want to make sure that people know it's possible to do things differently we want to get.

New technology out there faster that's what we're about.

Now that rally fighter very cool car but I got it imagine it's probably not your daily driver.

Look at -- cars do you like other than 10 and making their local car I drive every day is -- -- really.

Every day -- you do live in Arizona so maybe it's a little more useful there.

My wife and I just took her three kids that are Alley fighter from Arizona to me in the summer 3500 miles enemy drew back from India -- -- -- inner life here.

Let's if you look at how we like to forget about 21 miles per gallon on the highway Corvette -- right it's got the LS three motor in it which is using the Camaro and the Corvette.

And it's weighs about the same as a -- so it's about 3600.

There's 600 pounds so it's very light vehicle -- it's much bigger than a -- hundred succeed wheelbase 82 inch track with.

It's a desert racing vehicle to -- 21 miles per gallon on a quick drivers you've -- gonna give a lot of credit for that thank you very much it's a dream guard no doubt about that Jimmie -- Head of local voters over there and Chandler Arizona get -- how earnest yet -- in the city.

Definitely building some drinkers literally people don't -- -- dreams.

And -- putting together than your factory when it's great stuff but you know.

You mainstream cars.

Our next guest is the ferry garage mother and she.

Picture dreamer but at least she's supposed to they're gonna dream right she is the host of speeds dream -- People rose joins us now from Chicago thanks for -- -- April.

Hey thanks for having me on you -- talking about some really cool stuff to simulate the rally fighter -- seen this thing.

He had no I haven't seen it but out now I'm gonna go right on the Internet right when we're done it doesn't check it out.

That's very exciting stuff as his -- -- right I got of course -- as bank is owned by the parent company.

A Fox -- -- every year you guys have this contest over there where speed here I really anybody can get on the Internet I guess joins us contest it's go to racetrack and get to have a ton of fun.

Tell -- about what's going on this year.

Yeah I have five people when on the you can bring a guest with you don't goodness sake in Monterey California you get to drive with some of the most famous drivers like Mario and caddie Kyle -- Dennis Anderson and a monster truck you get to go on the -- race of motorcycle all we know where your knees almost great -- -- ground on the turns and everything like that's what's.

Really a dream -- experience that is unlike anything you can ever imagine.

Now I don't -- to host the TV a lot of times you look like you're involved in cool stuff because you get to do them yourself but you get your head after a military -- to have some fun.

You know they told me that I'm going to be out there it's a five day trip I'm going to be out there for the first couple days I don't know I'm kind of nervous and on the back of motorcycle all.

Went around all those crazy turns but I think god driving in great that your would be really cool and obviously meeting Mario Andretti.

Might not Kyle Petty because of the last NASCAR race and he's just a -- rate down to earth guy so it's really funny that you get to hang out with these guys and really get an alum.

So it's really neat experience I've been told I have never gone -- yet.

As far as they're working with speed I know you're into cars to what's your favorite car right now and I am also point out.

Along with your workers speed you've been named hometown -- over -- and meshing does that mean you like American muscle cars are you into the European exotic machinery.

No you hit it right there I'm an American muscle cars like.

Late sixties early seventies I drive by lots all the time and I will pull all right get out and just check them out I'm such a nerd but I'm just waiting.

It's a -- it's tough.

Because you need like an SUV to get around in the winter time but I would have loved you know a summer late sixties early seventies American muscle car that has my name written all over and it.

Yeah I was gonna say living in Chicago now one of the great cartels and -- hitters New York over here.

How would you drive on number on your do you have a car -- on planes.

Oh -- will I.

That's your I am -- all the time but when I'm here I have they did Cadillac crossover that's Barack's I had an -- -- new version of the Dodge Charger.

And in my trunk I had like an ice -- and National Mall and like I look like their murder almost as he gets stuck all the -- and add up.

I had it all the equipment to be able to -- myself out.

-- -- drive cars it was good to put a couple bags ice in the bag just to be.

But as well -- it's true as far as speed dream right is concerned how do you get involved how can enjoy and I know like into in the still does but does he was well.

-- It -- -- -- night dot com you guys can answer up until new years.

And you can answer every single day so that China -- your chances of being able to win and it's speed -- -- the dot com and there's a lot of cool stuff on that let's -- it's -- really.

Interactive web site you can see lot of interviews and -- different.

I'm pictures section the videos actions and our commercials on there you can see the behind the scenes of the making a commercial -- it's -- a really cool stuff.

That you're the -- garage mother -- got to ask him from Jersey any chance I could be the very garage rather.

I really like to write and -- this grant the I could -- regular next year I'll have an offer for those viewers they can't refuse.

Can you wouldn't you look good -- wings that's only -- -- now who I will Wear the ways of -- happy with the way we're although I'm sure out of and I don't.

Yeah I -- -- I feel naked without my wings right now but I have wings on and all the promotions it's a great out there there's no doubt about that -- Dejuan what it's all over.

They did they haven't chipping a lot of self ideal parent says like -- -- -- -- like here's your -- April and the winds are actually made by the people that make Victoria secret Angel wings.

I'm so it's kind of cool I felt a little special that they're out -- me with those wings does that one have a bodyguard when -- at the liberty and it should have a body Saturday night someone might take -- I don't blame them.

I made people rose at the very garage mother from speed dream right thanks for joining -- -- -- -- -- it was because -- -- W show at the end of the year to get to see all the fun they had out -- looking at -- right.

Yup that -- product April rose thanks for joining us.

We'll see you next time on fox -- report thanks again.

-- what the latest news at auto reviews head on over to fox car report dot com and we'll see you next time.
