And hello again from Fox News in Washington.

But just over three weeks till the Iowa Caucuses the Republican candidates for president came out swinging last night at a debate in the more -- Fox News correspondent Steve Brown watch the action is -- who scored and who messed state.

Chris there were plenty of attempts on last night's debate to knock down Newt Gingrich the front runner up peg or two but those efforts came up short.

We can start with sat with his idea -- -- to -- that -- lunar colony that would mine minerals from the from the moon I'm not in favor of suspect that kind of money -- -- to -- that.

He says that he would he would like to eliminate that in some cases the child labor loss of the kids could.

-- schools I don't agree with that that idea so -- -- -- we have differences of viewpoint that.

I've had some issues the only reason you didn't become a career politician as you lost a Teddy Kennedy in 1994.

An eyewitness.

-- a clean shot.

That was delivered on Gingrich it may have been by Ron Paul over -- consulting gig with Freddie election.

While he was earning a lot of money from Freddie Mac I was fighting over a decade to try to explain to people where the housing bubble was coming from.

So Freddie Mac its field out.

By the taxpayers.

So the Wayne -- I think people because of our taxpayers' money Michelle -- fired this two -- one jab at the center stage candidates over -- previous endorsements of individual mandates for health care.

You just turn new Romney is also with Obama on the issue of OP -- all extensions so if you want -- difference.

Michelle Bachmann is the proven conservative it's not news.

But clearly the talk about moment of the debate was this exchange between Rick Perry and Romney.

About individual mandates.

You know what you -- that before -- and you're sitting on it was true then got out there whose -- -- -- about how -- 101000 dollar bet and I'm not in -- business -- OK -- That wager is not playing well here in Iowa some observers suggesting it shows Romney is out of touch Chris.

Steve Brown reporting from the -- Steve thanks for that.

Not a one of the presidential contenders has got a lot riding on Iowa Texas governor Rick Perry who joins us from -- -- and governor welcome back to FOX News Sunday.

Good morning Chris good to be -- I've I've got to ask you what everybody's talking about what did you think last night when Mitt Romney made -- offered a 101000 dollar bet on something in his book.

You know I was taken -- Baghdad.

Driving out to the station this morning I'm.

Pretty sure I didn't drive by -- house that anyone.

In Iowa would even think about that at 101000 dollar bet as possible so.

A little out of touch with the normal Iowa.

Citizen.

But the issue upon individual mandates.

Is still at the center here and Mitt can deny this is many times as he wants but in his first book hardcover of no apologies.

He clearly stated that individual mandate should be the model for this country.

And then he took that out of the book in the paperback that's the fact.

And it even a 101000 dollar -- not gonna cover that well.

One of your big moments -- -- you say it came in this confrontation over the individual mandate you criticized him for the mandate Romney care he came back at you and said.

You had an individual mandate in Texas to make six grade girls get the HPV vaccine and he -- what's the difference.

Well clearly we had an opt out.

In that executive order.

And the legislature said that they didn't like the way I had.

Gone forward I agreed with them.

And it's not in the state of Texas so there's a clear difference here.

He still is supporting individual mandate.

And that's the fact.

Governor -- spending millions of dollars right now on campaign commercials and Iowa you are about to launch a fourteen day bus tour across the state.

Where you're gonna hit 44 cities.

As they say in Texas hold of them are you all in in Iowa.

Well I'm all in and all of those states it's not just Iowa but obviously I was the first in the nation we respect that.

And a retail politics and -- one out and sharing with the people of Iowa our plan to get this country back working how we're gonna balance the budget.

How we're gonna overhaul Washington DC I'm gonna talk film about -- Congress say part time body just like they have here and I -- -- from assure the people of Iowa think Washington is spending too much.

Money there's been in too much time in town so make the legislature.

Or I should say the congress like their legislature here part time.

Let him come home have a real job work within.

The citizens with the citizens and have.

There opportune deliver -- the laws that they passed.

And America mobile a lot better off and I'm probably should've -- spending less money and didn't and blessed mischief and Washington DC.

Governor your latest campaign commercial -- doesn't talk about congress doesn't talk about the economy.

It talks about faith in his closing.

Some controversy let's take a look at it.

Not ashamed to admit that I'm -- Christian.

You don't need -- in the -- every Sunday didn't know that there's something wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military.

When our kids can't openly celebrate Christmas pray in school.

As president -- end Obama.

War on -- room.

Question governor how is President Obama waging a war on religion.

Why give you a couple examples when you look at his.

Attorney general -- -- Justice Department going all the way to the Supreme Court.

Two change the a way that churches are allowed to -- far far -- ministers or their staff from -- If that's not a war on religion I don't know what it is when you look at the the Catholic Charities that aren't allowed to have money because they've made -- decision that.

Very are not going to allow abortions and and and and and their facilities.

So this administration is keeping money away from them.

On programs.

That help people who.

Were are sexually attracted so.

That they -- again if that's not a -- religion I don't know what is clearly.

This administration's.

Values.

Are different then I would suggest certainly the people of of Iowa.

Let me ask you though about the specific charge that you make and that commercial use say that -- is gonna serve openly.

While children can't pray in school.

It was the Supreme Court back in 1962.

Did that decided and it's been upheld since then.

That that dead children couldn't -- in school Barack Obama had nothing to do what that.

And asked her repeal of don't ask don't -- -- saying that anyone who supports don't ass don't tail and don't towel.

Is anti religious.

Well let me back up and say that I would support a constitutional amendment that allows our children to pray.

In in school any time -- that they -- like right now those activist judges.

Like.

Sotomayor and and -- that he put on the Supreme Court.

They would continued to.

To say that that is a decision that the Supreme Court should make I happen to believe that the how to be a local decision and that and that's not.

The supreme court's business to be telling Americans when and how they should -- on the issue of Don't Ask Don't Tell it was working.

And for the commander in chief.

To use our military as a political tool.

-- were in combat in two.

Different locations around at least two different locations around the world and -- Iraq and Afghanistan.

I think this is really irresponsible.

-- commander in chief of twenty plus thousand.

Men and women I served in the united states air force I understand.

The big the the issue and I don't think it's one that the president United States in congress for that matter should be.

Forcing upon.

The men and women of the military I think it was bad public policy and I would change it.

The only point I'd make about a prayer in school as that is continued.

Under.

The ban on prayer in school under Republican presidents as well as Democrats including Reagan and both of the -- I understand that I'm just don't tell -- what I believe Chris and I and I happen to bully.

That Americans.

Don't agree with that decision that was made 1962.

And -- if we had a constitutional amendment election across this country.

Allowing our children to pray in school I would suggest to you will pass overwhelmingly and I'll support that I will go across this country.

As I'm promoting a balanced budget amendment to the United States constitution.

I'll work on.

A bounds or I should say hey hey.

And amendment to allow our children to pray in school I think Americans are greatly supportive of both of those issues.

Governor even some Republicans are saying that win this sap which is getting a lot of coverage -- in Iowa and you're running a lot that it's a pretty blatant attempt to reach out to evangelicals.

Who make up about 60% of the Republican caucus goers and that state.

Here's the problem without.

A recent Washington Post poll of likely caucus goers.

Found that 70% say the economy as their top issue only 15%.

Say social issues which raises the issue is faith really the key concern in Iowa right now.

Why would say is that faith is a major part of who I am I can't change that anymore than I can change that -- that.

The son of two tenant farmers.

But I'm -- and spend.

Fourteen days.

On a bus traveled across I were talking about.

How to get this economy back we've laid out a -- plan that clearly gets America.

Working again that 20% flat tax that.

That allows Americans to see how this economy can get back on track.

Getting rid of that fifteen trillion dollars worth of of of debt.

And also overhauling Washington DC and we talk about overhauling Washington DC.

Americans.

Eyes and I know the citizens -- I was surprised.

Brighten up when we talk about.

Making Washington is inconsequential.

And their allies as we can and we do that and we get the economy back on track.

Is the governor of Texas I created a million Russians -- -- helped create a million net new jobs with our legislature.

By getting government out of the way.

I know how to do this and -- ones will have a very good handle on it by the time they go to the caucus on in January -- I should say.

I was gonna say that you spoke to the dead Moines register editorial board on Friday and you had what some people are calling another -- moment.

You criticized President Obama those appointments to the Supreme Court Curtis.

-- -- -- -- Activist judges.

-- -- -- Not not a month month month and or.

So -- is that a man so tomorrow so it took mirror.

And then you said that there are eight judges on the court as you know there are nine.

How do you respond to -- is that you know I like.

Rick Perry I liked his ideas but I worried does he know enough to be president of the united -- Well is -- another nine Supreme Court does is I don't know and I came out of my mouth but the the fact is I can't say if I don't have memorize all of the Supreme Court judges and and here's what I do know.

That when I put individual on the Supreme Court just like had done in -- how we got nine Supreme Court justices in Texas.

They will be strict constructionist they won't be activist judges that's what Americans care about they're not looking for a robot that can not spit out.

The name of every Supreme Court justice served -- -- someone it's going to be perfect and ended in every way.

They're looking for somebody who's got values that are based.

With the with the deep -- in the water.

And I asked him consistent.

In my conservative values I have been consistent.

And Americans are looking for someone who's gonna -- the right decisions.

Not someone who -- I can.

Either read a teleprompter perfectly.

Or spit out -- By memory.

A list of names that's not what's important to Americans what they're looking for is an individual who has.

Clear.

Values and a -- lots of -- and a fiscal conservative.

Philosophy at that.

Governor we got less than a minute left this week congressional Republicans are trying to figure out if there is some way to extend the payroll tax cut.

You're on record opposing that you're also on record opposing extending.

Unemployment benefits.

How do you answer the argument the Democrats make that you and a lot of other Republicans.

Are a lot more concerned about protecting the wealthy than -- folks who were struggling.

Were in arrested in creating a climate of were people who have money can.

Or risk their capital.

And it's not about rich people it's about small mom and pop businesses who -- afraid because of Obama care of afraid because of over regulation of -- because of over taxation.

-- come straight out of Washington DC.

That they can't risk their capital they can't create the jobs and in turn will create the well.

That's what we need to be focused on not temporary tax cuts that are gonna temporarily.

Stimulated.

We've already had some of that stimulation out of Washington DC.

Trillions of dollars we found out seven point seven trillion dollars was secretly moved from the treasury to these wall street finance there's.

That's what Americans are upset about Chris.

Governor Perry we're gonna have to leave it there wanna thank you so much for talking -- us and we will see what the fox debate in Sioux City, Iowa Thursday night.

Look forward to -- thank users India.
