Determination to run -- positive campaign.
And also indicated -- any super practices that is doing so and mining and attack any of my friends who are right.
That I would publicly disown him and urged people not to donate to the quiz I think we do not need that kind of.
Well former house speaker Newt Gingrich -- in a town hall up in New Hampshire before he started at -- this way.
Who should city Iowa and this is power play welcome back to the Hawkeye State Internet we -- having a fantastic -- today.
And what the former speaker was talking about there is the new focus discipline of his campaign to not go negative.
Even bad is the attacks on him intensified not just from his rival Mitt Romney.
But from the others conservatives in the field as they question -- credentials it's getting tough.
And we're counting down to Thursday's debate.
The final debate before the Iowa Caucuses are gonna take right.
Take place right here and it's going to be great.
-- -- -- Is an important person as it relates to this is very important not just because as we told you before he knows where to get a good -- But because he's it as you know the former communications director.
For the Republican National Committee but now he's working with the Iowa Republican Party as they deal with the onslaught of international media attention.
And national fixation.
On what's going on here -- welcome back -- -- Welcome to Sioux City it's God's good -- it's good -- I tell you what -- you know -- be good.
One thing that I have to like about what they're throwing down here is they have a good -- focus this is a pro team oriented community.
I had more sausage for breakfast really then probably the FDA would -- but I went for -- it was good.
To pork -- I had -- -- -- stakeouts at the point was that what I think Fred Flintstones would -- but yeah absolutely these people know how to live and I'll tell you that right now okay so.
When it comes to winning Iowa.
There is what I'll call the -- camera fixes.
Krauthammer thesis holds that negativity turns off Iowa voters more even.
Most voters don't like negative campaigning it works.
But they don't like it but that Iowa voters have a special version two nastiness.
Do you buy into the -- thesis.
I think that's true the challenges though.
It's not necessarily the candidates are going negative now that we have -- -- Citizens United world and all these independent groups that are spending a real tall and of money.
And in I was stations blanketing his as you've heard on radio or seen on TV.
You can't you can't watch fox in a commercial break without seeing two or three ads or.
-- the Cartoon Network probably for that matter which is probably appropriate for this and so its order for candidates to control that message when -- these independent messages going on.
But it can turn voters off it can also turn voters in different directions that's what's been mentioned -- Newt Gingrich try and take our plan.
-- and you know you we that we have a lot of new polling out Wall Street Journal poll.
Democratic poll PPP out in Iowa all these kinds of things that basically say.
You can have a self destruct sequence for the two front runners that if Romney keeps attacking Gingrich.
And making conservatives concerned about Gingrich.
It but that doesn't mean Romney has to rise and you see them both dipping down a little bit and then people like Ron Paul Rick theory Michelle Bachmann.
Finding a way into the conversation yes.
There are two theories on that one that somebody rises or that those two candidates -- we saw this in the Nevada primary.
Life cycle.
Means that the third candidate doesn't rise because the conversation just remains among the -- right the real differences with Ron Paul organization organization isn't the be all end all in Iowa.
But it does matter and we know that Ron Paul has the organization on the ground.
And he'll bring his.
Goers to the caucus and it.
-- and we we will bring his goes the -- and we're gonna talk.
More about that in our next segment with James Anderson is a former executive director of the I would GOP.
But right now I want you to hear.
The former governor of Massachusetts Willard Mitt Romney who made an appearance on America's news room today.
But but that to suggest.
That that there's something un American or something wrong about investing in enterprise it ultimately doesn't succeed.
Be speaks an extraordinary lack of understanding of how the economy works and by the way.
The suggestion that he returned the money that he got from from Freddie Mac that follows his own comment he said anyone who profited from Freddie Mac should give the money back.
Will he profit one point six million dollars from an agency that helped bring down the entire economy got to go back.
Now now that of course is the classic jujitsu move.
It's so.
Newt Gingrich criticize Mitt Romney four bankrupting companies and putting workers out of jobs when he was at Bain Capital.
Giving him the same line of attack.
Gingrich caught a lot of flak for that.
And then worked as worked very hard the last 48 hours to pull back inside his boundaries as a positive -- he's gonna stay positive.
And you can tell he regretted doing that but this continues to give Romney the chance.
To play victim any attack that's on the table gives Romney the chance to play victim and come back and say well -- now that we're talking about that.
Let me go ahead and say the following five terrible things about my about it.
Sure that's one of the classic techniques is to say my opponent this awful person you should never trust with your children is going negative right -- -- also offer Romney.
-- -- -- larger message that he's building about.
Say Newt Gingrich working with Nancy Pelosi on climate change sitting down with Bill Clinton at the at the town halls in -- A New Hampshire sort plays with that message will work we don't know yet but it seems consistent with their fame.
How many people are gonna show up for the Iowa Caucuses we don't know right now about your last time we had about 1171000.
People show up.
This -- -- as Steve was talking about earlier is so fluid we just don't know and organization isn't as strong as it was here in the past.
But I think it's going to be -- to contest because we know.
What the stakes are we know that our -- are intense and your viewers will see that first came in Sioux City this is the first time.
There's been a debate the debate in and this is incredible to think.
Some cities never had a debate given all the debates not just the cycle of past cycles through that the people here are really really excited about it you're gonna see the crowd just going off the -- -- And to put in context.
What where -- city is your city.
Is in the heart of the most Republican or a -- this is like the dark red center.
Be read as part of Iowa.
This is the republic and this is the place where you need their support that whoever wins is where this is the part of -- they were the biggest cash about it that's right absolutely the voters here are so excited to have the debate here we even have Democrats were helping organize.
Because is a great thing for the city and you know if we we often talk about how politics -- reflects professional wrestling and some some point.
This -- yeah this will be wrestle mania tomorrow night I'm excited to be here for and you know that the thing is this you you know how this goes from your many years of experience in this field.
When the crowd is jam it when the crowd is into the fight and you can already you know that always quiet right now but you can tell.
That it's it's a big space it's going to be full of very boisterous people who work.
Rooting for one side.
Or the other.
It feeds into the candidates as they are going at each other and it creates this this feedback loop where it intensifies and intensified and that's a challenge for the tenets is to remain focused -- remain disciplined.
-- -- and we we hear people saying that Newt Gingrich has been on disciplined.
So we've really seen him be -- in debates tomorrow night with this electricity for all the candidates it's going to be.
An extra challenge to channel their message not to over swing exactly not to -- just like golf like everything else okay we've.
Are so glad that you're here we wish you best of luck you guys our partners Fox -- partners I would GOP.
In this debate tomorrow night it's going to be awesome Doug I thank you for being with those -- -- finding more.
