Big endorsement today today the CEO Lee family leader Taiwan based conservative group announce he is supporting senator Santorum here's what Bob Vander plots had to say.
-- As an individual they're going to endorse present.
I'm humble eyes -- error resources.
My disposal act came for him.
I will not.
Tear down another candidate we have other good candidates in this race and yeah -- -- And senator Rick Santorum joins us a lot I want Canadian sir and I see a big endorsement because he endorsed Governor Huckabee in 2008.
And that of course say he won I -- so I assume they like that endorsement.
I guess -- senator Santorum can't hear recently -- a technical problem but I -- tell the viewers say in.
In and 2008.
Governor Huckabee was of course of the surprise winner when he got this endorsement from Bob Bennett plots and he is a president of the family leader.
And that is a group that led the charge against gay marriage in Iowa which has been a very controversial issue.
You're looking at a picture right now.
About -- Vander plots as -- -- -- can you hear me now.
I can't get -- you before but I guess you couldn't hear me sorry about that.
I know -- as lucky for me there is no audio as one of the -- things happened didn't TV when you wish you were in another career one of those great moments and it okay.
I'm sorry got to get a big endorsement that today from Bob -- -- Andy an.
2008 he led the charge against gay marriage.
I -- -- -- citizens of Iowa I assume you want every single book.
Well how are you going to get the -- well how can you convince them that despite -- your views and his views.
That you could it mean is there any way that you could convince them to vote for you.
Well look I I have nothing against gay people they have they have you know rights and every other citizen but what what they did in Iowa and what does -- -- trying to do not all gave this summer trying to do is change the laws of this country.
With respect what the definition of marriage is and we have a public policy disagreement I know there are a lot of gays who are strong on national security amendment and and believe -- Lower taxes and and getting this economy moving and you know welcome -- -- to join our campaign that.
Is there if there are differences -- I'm certainly gonna gonna speak out on those differences -- I think it's in the best interest of our country.
To have laws that reflect.
You know having men and women raise children and and form solid marriage marriage bonds.
Can you just enough heartache that many of them have when they hear you speak it's a -- so near and dear to them.
And you know your fear of their policy is against them and then and then at the same time you want their votes -- -- understand the heartache for many of them.
Not well you know and you know we can have a public policy discussion that says that's you know certain things are -- are law should be certain ways without seeing it as a personal attack.
It's not a personal attack it's it's what we we believe is best for the country and I believe was best for the country -- to give children their -- -- which is the best opportunity for them to have a mother and a father and that means that you have the laws in place.
That in fact.
Do encourage mothers and fathers -- -- to come together in marriage and to -- to raise those children and you know there are a lot of southern port relationships and I don't dismiss other relationships is important.
But there's one essential relationship that's necessary to give children their birth right into the -- its best chance of raising -- nurturing future generations the best.
So there are moving to another tablet that I talked to congress that -- console -- box went about and that's a president Reagan's eleventh amendment.
And speaker Gingrich today has said as -- to senate and the -- negative ads -- And it does appear that the Republican candidates are savaging each other and I realize at some as part of the political process but some of the stuff -- gotten.
Do you agree with speaker Gingrich said it's time to call an end -- negative ads or do you see this is important part of the political process and Evans is gonna have to give bruised and emerged from a dead PM.
Well I mean as someone who's not -- a negative ads you know I I certainly it and -- someone who's out there you know violating that commandment and when I talk about my my you know my my colleagues in this race of my opponents in this race.
I try to be very respect to a point out differences but I always preface that -- I think they're good people and I think they are -- -- we have we respectfully disagree on some issues.
I think that's what people want to see you know I I don't want I don't think they wanna see.
You know no debate about differences but I think they wanted to wanna see them to be respectfully -- -- -- done and and certainly some of these these -- that are out there running ads are are pretty tough and and and pretty nasty I think Ron Paul's -- in particular is pretty pretty tough.
You -- public the public and to make a decision whether you know that reflects badly on that candidate running that bad.
I am -- -- left in Washington tonight to and I had the -- a voting on this at payroll tax cut by the December 31.
-- thoughts on the fact that it's a ghost town and everybody is basically set up.
Times seven gotta go -- will see you look what August -- after the first or whatever but the members of congress they knew this deadline was coming it's not a big surprise.
And yet we don't -- resolution for American families.
He got -- well look I'm someone who believes that I'm for I'm for lower taxes -- for cutting for Texas firm the American public.
And also for the stability of these and of the Social Security system.
And I think this temporary tax cut -- on Social Security payments.
Is underfunded the Social Security system at a time when there -- enough money in the -- security system to pay for tax confirmed for the for the benefits.
And so you know the Democrats can have it both ways that say we have to have a separate fund for Social Security that sacrosanct that we can't touch it.
And at the same time cut taxes and Social Security so there is enough money to pay for benefits all -- I think that tax cuts are good.
But tax -- have to be growth oriented have to be focused in the right area and in my mind this is not and it and it undermines the the solvency of the trust fund.
And the system and I'm actually police that is going out of that -- maybe they get back to do something that's gonna pass a tax cut that's gonna create jobs.
Is that a play politics.
Senate sent arms thank you and I know that day and we very busy in Iowa next two weeks good luck -- Thank you very much -- we're looking forward to we've had a great weekend now we expect -- -- better when actually.
