Doctor keep -- joins us right now -- -- us.
The medical idea I guess to get the government out of marriage entirely.
To bring it back -- to favor high doc.
-- Hillary pretty good thank you outlets the numbers 51%.
Of those -- over age eighteen are now married.
72%.
Were married back in 1960s.
So it's on the decline -- you think that's gonna continue.
That's a 30%.
Decline and I think it's going to -- continue dramatically so that only a minority of people will be married.
By the year 20/20 five.
And I think we should do something about it.
One of the things we should do is get this state get government out of the marriage business.
And you argument -- an article that we've posted on foxnews.com.
Is that now for somebody get him to get married requires a license which is essentially signing a draconian contract with the states.
To manage the division of -- state in the event of a divorce.
-- listen I started thinking about this because so many to people who come to me for help with anything even just to think more about their lives they may not be depressed and all they may not have a -- a a psychiatric disorder.
It was coming for perspective but they share with me -- this marriage has become a source of pain for me.
And I -- I think you'll why would that beat one of the reasons is from the beginning of signing a marriage contract.
Taking a marriage license.
You're essentially in tantalizing yourself.
Because.
You're signing a contract about -- yay big.
It happens to be at the home of your state legislature.
You don't review it I don't know anybody you has -- subject to revision.
At any time without your input and so it's not a mature decision.
There's no need for the state to sanction these unions at all it's a matter for people and their houses of worship.
Or their loved ones or both.
So I if you if you did get rid of the government marriage license as you point out in your article there would be no more special treatment of married couples by the IRS.
And you say that no state ever had a legitimate claim to issue a marriage license to Begin with because it's a spiritual commitment.
Exactly here's what I suggest would be -- much better system.
People as adults as adults again -- and it's so important.
You shouldn't.
Of the financial document to govern what should happen if you decide to dissolve your contract in one or five or ten years.
Always children involved or without.
That's a legal issue -- a lawyer would help you with him no doubt people would develop.
Boiler plates that you could sign on to.
That would help you govern the financial aspects of your relationship but -- -- the emotional that's -- matter if you go to your church your temple.
Or your friends -- -- loved ones -- all all of those you know your house of worship and your friends and say we are one.
Being now.
Now -- our souls are joined.
We want to celebrate.
You do that you can exchange vows in a spiritual basis you have a lawyer do your document governing how you'll interact -- a financial basis that's.
No more state involvement whatsoever it.
Divorce has become such a huge industry because it's like the IRS nobody can figure it out people get tortured on the way out.
Well you mentioned you got to have your lawyer come up with a document because -- sure I mean obviously.
You would have to have some means for dividing assets and working everything else out in the event of a divorce.
And most people don't have a pre nup.
But you don't really need one because as you say the government has a pre nuptial agreement already whatever your state -- is.
Regarding it so then you know you may be be getting the government out but you have to bring a lawyer and then you would have to drop a pretty -- and that's kind of.
Just -- another.
Check back well none -- that's the adult thing to do when you are looking at joining yourselves financially potentially for a lifetime.
And look people have different -- different -- and desires why would anybody.
Sign -- 500 page document essentially which is represented by your signature on a one page form you don't even get to look behind the little one -- form.
Which by the way the 500 -- judgment can be altered at any time.
This State's only interest -- only legitimate interest should be to see that there's a minimum.
Level of child support.
Included in every such document by statute.
That must be included because there was -- helpless folks innocent kids that have to be protected other than that.
If you want to get married with no such document.
That's up to you do you can do that to but the state would step in to protect your kids in the event that you don't support.
I -- this issue by the IRS no longer giving any kind of a marriage credit some people.
We -- businesses where business does the IRS have in prescribing.
That we fever people who are married as opposed to other folks.
We don't or shouldn't and and any -- become a colossal mess.
Because.
Let's be honest straight with the advent of gay marriage you can be on one side of the issue or the other.
But I don't know how you defend against three people getting married.
Once you decide to people of the same gender can marry that's fine that's your position that's cool.
But then I don't understand if love is the basis of marriage how can any state.
Then say that three people can't phone -- why not we're not making a moral statement about it anymore we've decided that already.
What we're doing is essentially saying that love should be the basis of six unions.
My solution is hey guys the state never had any business in this to Begin with get out.
Let people handle their own spiritual affairs.
The state can govern only the care financially.
Of innocent children because they need child support in the event of a dissolution of a family.
Well I must say.
I am predicting that this is going to be a very controversial article are not unlike some -- -- there isn't head doctor Q hello.
How we will okay.
And they -- -- controversy.
I think that something is -- his controversial.
It just little ones little while but all right -- doctor -- goblet thank you so much for joining us and we look forward to seeing that article a new way to get married.
Without the state --
