And -- there.
Good morning Steve are you done a doing OK so you are in the midst of a bus tour in Iowa.
You -- in the beginning.
A couple of months ago it didn't sound like you're gonna spend much time in Iowa but now you're surging in the polls has there been a change in strategy.
Well the response has been very positive you know I had a big event last night at Davenport.
We expected about a 150 -- close to 800 people showed up -- there's a lot of enthusiasm.
And so we're -- we're gauging that enthusiasm is a sign that we had a put more time and energy and that hopefully doing real well here in Iowa.
It's hard to come Monday Morning Quarterback this governor but I mean you look back on -- -- -- won't -- it.
So the neck and neck here now and I know if we had maybe -- more resources into this thing from the beginning it might be a walk to deal -- -- -- look back on this.
Now Clinton I guess what's important to us is to make sure that we who.
Where that that the team that comes up with 11150 delegates and so we're gonna campaign in all the states do our very best to pick up those delegates like I want to do well here in Iowa -- I'd -- to win every state but I know I can put all of them but the good news for me is it over the last several weeks that.
The support from our campaign is growing and -- had a momentum towards the beginning of the process here is is very very encouraging.
Now governor yesterday in Iowa he made some news when you responded to Newt Gingrich.
Comparing his inability to get on the Virginia ballot.
To like Pearl Harbor and use that actually.
It's more like this steel ball and what happened in the chocolate factory.
You mean by that isn't.
You know what we all make mistakes is on the other campaigns or get things done quite right I don't compare those mistakes to a Pearl Harbor.
What what I see mistakes I try to -- -- in this case Lucille Ball the chocolate factory you may remember that sketch where -- chocolates were coming out of the machine yes you get stuff from in the -- and hang it right now.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- Yet it is yes it's a classic it's such classics in those of us that have gotten a little behind.
Can identify with -- -- -- well let me let me ask you this since yesterday you mentioned Lucille Ball.
Today here on a bus tour any chance -- crammed in in the honeymooners is gonna come up because we got the video for that.
One of these days Alice one of these how well the bottom -- well we don't have Alice cued up but we do have Newt Gingrich -- is responding to yours.
Sit com slap at him.
Love doesn't -- -- to my face if you wanna run a negative campaigning you wanna attack people at least be man enough government.
You want you to respond face to face on that -- -- chance I know we also challenge you -- activating duel yesterday.
You know I hope the speaker understands that that was humor.
I'm happy that could -- by by humorous.
Anecdote to him face to face and -- look forward to -- -- the way we've we've had -- -- know ten -- twelve debates will be debated each other along with others we have two more that are now scheduled for.
If it comes down to this the two of us at some point we will debate person to person but you know right now.
There -- a bunch of folks in this race that are still in the race.
Newton are not necessarily number one and number two across sedation so we're gonna have to narrow it down and and -- religious but I mean to debate all the major candidates.
You know you mentioned some other ten.
Candidates in this race and there are some other candidates who have have been critical of view and -- including Newt Gingrich calling you up in Massachusetts moderate is the new moniker they've been -- labelling you and Rick Santorum -- an interview this week says there are three primaries happening right now are in in in Iowa Ron Paul's stuff primary and then the one between you and Newt Gingrich as the moderates.
And then he -- -- true conservative in the race you being painted as a moderate here are you not conservative enough for Iowa.
Yeah well the good news is that people can look at my record in Massachusetts and at that describes more than anyone word exactly what I believe a balanced the budget all four years I was governor restored a two billion dollar rainy day fund -- we had English Immersion in our schools empowered our state police to enforce our immigration laws help drive our schools to be number one in the nation I've got a record of conservative principles that I think people recognize and that's what I've seen the kind of support I've had in places like at New Hampshire this next door where they.
They know my record pretty well and and frankly right here in Iowa I've seen the kind of surge of enthusiasm -- need to have confidence seldom pretty darn well here.
And governor are you left out the health -- -- -- that you also passed in Massachusetts and governor that some people refer to as.
Romney care and it's interesting because Newt Gingrich.
That's criticize you for that up with the Wall Street Journal unearthed -- thing.
From his web site back in 2000 fixed.
Where heat seems to applaud.
Some portions of that I'll read it to you he -- we agree entirely with governor Romney Massachusetts legislators that our goal should be 100%.
For all Americans what do you make of what he said back then.
Well like I knew that he supported the plan in the past and and -- I've I've really be supported -- -- got into the race this year but maybe before that he changed his view.
Look our plan was right for our state and and in my view is based upon conservative principles that that frankly came from Newt Gingrich and -- Heritage Foundation which was instead of people relying on government to provide their care.
They should take personal responsibility.
And the plan is that not perfect things I'd change it it but I'll stand by the things we've we've done and and make sure people understand I -- do what I think is right for the people by represented and that case I was doing what I think was right for the people of Massachusetts.
Well after Newt Gingrich's comments were reprinted from back then in 2006.
He had a lot of explaining to do keep in that -- thing going here and it.
It's yesterday explaining his comments on your health care plan in Massachusetts.
And definitely I'm here we both used to have the wrong idea.
-- what is it was wrong I think he's done.
That is funny that they know exactly admitting that I will definitely that he felt -- that you still -- when -- OK so -- says side he made a mistake and he says he's wrong but you won't.
You don't -- he's made a number mistakes very recently of us -- this presidential campaign I'm happy to stand by the things I believe.
I'm not gonna change -- positions by virtue of being in a presidential campaign what we did was right for the people of Massachusetts the plant is still -- -- by three to one and it is fundamentally a conservative principle two insists that people take personal responsibility as opposed to turning -- government for giving up freak.
