-- a warm welcome to the governor Rick Perry of the great state of Texas -- joining us tonight.
From I allowed governor great to have you on the program it.
Want to get right to it five days -- countdown right now what are your plans for Iowa and how do you expect to do.
Well it's his friend that's for sure were moving across a lot of Iowa and and -- -- a lot of not just small towns and medium sized Townsend and -- the end and wanna.
A great bit so we're going to be all over Iowa and -- crowds have been fantastic -- We hit coffee shops that two to 300 people in the flow and out into the streets -- a lot of excitement so.
The weather's been fabulous for one thing so.
All those stories about Iowa and in December.
They may have been true in the past but this has been some just fabulous weather in the forecast is for it to be nice all the way through Tuesday so.
-- -- keep running -- and talking -- people and shared with them our vision for a an outsider.
Just come -- to Washington DC and to really overall place.
Tell what is been sort of your feedback from the people that you've been out there talking to about their concerns about the direction that they'd like to see this country -- -- and.
Well people really lost confidence in Washington and Wall Street you know those two institutions -- historically.
People look to in -- I think felt relatively good I mean even though the poll numbers for congress I mean they're down.
I don't know if you can have a negative rating but there -- approaching it.
They care about their families they care about the dignity of -- -- have a job they understand that Washington is so out of touch.
When I talk about a part time congress vitae and that is the line.
That people no matter where I am they really respond to a minute it's an -- -- applause that you get when you talk about what's happened the legislature of the congress part time.
Cut their pay send him back home.
Let -- have a real job and and stay with their constituents and live with the laws that they passed.
-- and I mean people come out of their seats and and it's not a radical idea because my home state.
Our legislature only meets for a 140 days every other year we come -- and do the work -- to legislate tore 600 dollars.
A month they get their work done and they go back home to the real jobs and live with their constituents and look under the laws they -- Americans get that.
And they want to make.
Congress that they can trust again.
And one of the ways to do that this to have a congress is not up there -- -- 174000.
Dollars a year and stay in Washington DC and bickering and not getting their work done.
Well now Latin Michelle Bachmann has said that she feels that -- -- guilty of the crony capitalism and I know you're trying to distinguish yourself as somebody who is.
A non insider what do you say to those remarks.
Well I just refer people to the state of Texas for the last decade Indian and job creation capital when this country.
If if if that is crony capitalism American needs some of that.
We know how to create jobs and you keep the taxes low you have a regulatory climate that's fair predictable.
A legal system and -- allow for over suing.
Listened if you want -- trade a Democrat insider for Republican insider people know that's not gonna change Washington DC.
They're really looking for an outsider that's got a record of job creation and executive governing experience and I'm the only one that is standing up on the Republican side.
And has those qualifications.
Let's -- -- kind of a snapshot of where your campaign stands now you had a very strong.
Start now a lot of enthusiasm about your candidacy about the values about what you've been able to accomplish in the state of tech says.
You know a little bit of difficulty there during that with the debates in the beginning.
And then now it seems you feel that your picking up some Mormon men sound and what to attribute that -- you.
Why is they -- you know you you cannot up and now what there's been four or five different.
Individuals who have led in the Iowa.
Polls so I think people are very unsettled.
You know there there are three really.
You know -- strong.
Individuals that are that.
That on the conservative side but again I go back to this outsider vs the insider.
I'm the only outsider that's in there and people really respond and of that that they -- they're sick of Washington's -- they're sick of Washington's debt they're sick of these individuals who they've seen -- on both sides of of these issues whether it's individual mandate or whether it's.
Earmarks and you know that they're just really tired of Washington DC's business as usual they look to the stated taxes they -- it's been run well it's a job creating.
Machine and that's the kind of governing.
That they're looking for an -- I think.
All across America.
Has going for now for the next five days -- you look at the -- it pretty consistently.
I'm Mitt Romney has been stagnant some might say at 25% around there.
I yet you've seen also -- numbers start to -- do you feel that there isn't.
Real opportunity here for you to take some of those votes and to do so what do you want to say to those voters there watching out there tonight in Iowa why should they choose Governor Perry.
Well I got a proven track -- creating jobs and and making government work him.
For a decade now the last five years Texas led the nation in job creation.
If the greatest concern is to have.
A man of character and integrity and of known job creating capability that knows how to work.
In Washington DC or Austin, Texas for that matter to get.
Washington back on track cut the regulations cut them.
Burden it's on these.
Businesses out there.
Have a tax structure that allows people to keep more what they want that's what Americans are looking for they're not looking for.
That the -- Debater -- -- -- -- politician they're looking for somebody that knows how to deliver.
On this economic side that is an individual who is not gonna apologize for being a man of values and care.
That's very important people feel going forward to pick a candidate and that the nominee in fact be someone that can compete.
Head to head on all levels with -- -- and that includes having -- structure and an organization.
That is ready to go for -- there's been some criticism about whether or not you're able to do that because events and change -- in your campaign.
In terms of your staffing.
And in particular what happening and with your inability to get on the ballot in Virginia how do you address those concerns and what is your plan to try and rectify the situation in Virginia.
You know obviously the Virginia have situation is is.
Very difficult one for everyone I mean when there's only two people.
There were able to get on the ballot that challenges.
That there may be a structural problem.
In the the the Virginia process -- it's one of the reasons that we filed suit against him as you know I don't want the hundreds of thousands of people are my supporters.
In Virginia to be disenfranchised because their party.
Mechanism -- made -- so hard to be on the the -- so you know in the state taxes you pay 5000 dollars or you can go into.
Fifteen of our congressional districts you get 300 signatures in your on the ballot.
It ought to be.
Substantially simpler Virginians world.
Let's says address an issue that we spoke about that earlier on our program meant.
And that is with respect to the homecoming parade to honor the troops you have some specific -- very strong position on that.
I do when I'm the president of the United States not only you are our men and women who are coming home from combat.
Gonna feel appreciated.
They're also gonna have parades.
-- idea I was a veteran a man I wanted to tell.
In the late 1960s I volunteered.
For the united states air force and I appreciate air pointing that out doing today on the effects of get a good job good job for comment but.
You know the fact is these -- this is small tiny percentage of our population.
They're sacrificing and have been for nine years.
Their families mean if nothing else let's let their families know how much we appreciate the sacrifices that they've made over the course of these.
Years -- their sons and daughters and their loved ones -- over.
Around the world mean a parade come on.
Mean what's so difficult about we have parades for everybody's -- backed -- -- to cut down on the five today -- -- we have parades.
Why not a parade to say thank you.
For selfless sacrifice for men and women in.
All right well they have that governor Rick Perry -- on the record tonight always a pleasure thanks to being with us.
Thank you -- listen.
Terrific fantastic I governor he would mind that was a great job so far so that we just one -- can get a little -- -- You know for the five for tomorrow.
For Bob which actually kind of you gave us that idea I haven't.
I'd love to do it okay so -- you're at your chance to respond to Bob back on his that comments on the five.
Well I'm really proud that -- keeps up with things better than mr.
-- -- so to not know that I served as a volunteer in the united states air force.
As a pilot -- -- -- and you know I know -- I was looking for.
-- out there and our air force days I guess he must have missed the volunteer part of that.
You must have missed the sign of course of that now Bob also did say that there can be a couple surprises.
In Iowa and in particular he said yourself and Rick Santorum.
Could do you Latin you know much better than people might have initially anticipated based on the polling right now.
You know who knows as I said this thing is very fluid.
I don't think.
People have settled at -- five days out there's going to be a lot of back and forth and and people were.
They're looking at TV they're looking at ads -- look and it town hall meetings that were having all across the country we're having great crowds -- today.
I've had a lot of people who came in say listen we were for -- And now we're trying to decide and you brought me over here to to your side listen to your remarks have.
This thing is incredibly fluid I think there's going to be some surprises on Tuesday.
All right five days and now we shall see right governor thank you -- Your welcome.
