And hardball usually of the -- on this is your world she's at the center of a draft Sarah campaign in Iowa.
Newt Gingrich is hinting he might make for his VP pick.
But that Sarah Palin have other plans former GOP vice president.
He joins me now from Wasilla Alaska -- happy new year governor thank you for joining us on this very very important pre Iowa caucus state thank you.
Again so tell us -- -- what what what do you expect tomorrow.
Iowa with 41%.
Undecided participants in that.
In the event tomorrow is is a big darn deal you know I don't -- I think it really is a microcosm of the rest of the US a lot of people think it's just fly -- country and perhaps.
They are reflective of today's conventional wisdom and thinking but I think these are salt and -- people lot of good things will come out of Iowa tomorrow via the results of the of the Bodine and 44% undecided there's going to be a lot of goings on in shaken up in the next 24 hours governor.
That Newt Gingrich said that you were on his short list for potential vice presidential candidates.
What do you think of that -- -- was genuine or was -- playing to your base looking maybe for some of your votes.
Well Don got you know everybody's always given me shout outs and kudos to Gingrich being the smartest guy in the back -- many have to throw something out like.
That you know that that may be doesn't bode as well hey -- did that -- critics anyway for his intelligence says.
As that you had to think but you know we're just a Smart -- -- and he he is going to be running circles around the incumbents if he's.
The -- to progress and participate in the debates against Obama's I look forward to act hearing that if he is the wind but.
I've moved -- what -- -- it is I believe looking back is.
A broad range of experience.
And -- expertise and a lot of area -- and that.
-- obviously way too early to start picking cabinet members for any of these participants but that.
It was sudden it was a bit of a surprise that on my end anyway.
Sure it in -- cabinet member you mentioned this secretary of energy but he also said he made because of vice president present on his ticket.
The shaking things up up a little bit for -- did you hear -- if you did what was your reaction.
I'm -- I didn't hear his precise comments about that but it again you know I I think that is quite early -- but.
I have a base of support of -- quite independent patriotic Americans who understand the need for energy security we understand.
The need to rein in government growth and spending or we will be bankrupt -- -- and I have talked about for the last few years Eric.
I think that -- a lot of my views are reflective of what most Americans today are believing in it and that you know I'm I'm sure he.
He's going to be throwing out other names as the other candidates will be throwing -- also we've already heard some of that.
Sure -- -- the you know us we heard we heard senator Rick Santorum brought your name is well on one of his radio ads he said Sarah Palin praised me.
Can't -- -- coming on that.
I did praise Rick Santorum and I praise them again because I just heard an interview with him an hour ago was Shep Smith and he reminded me even in that -- view of why so many of us do respect Rick Santorum here's talked about America's Judeo Christian foundation how important it is that we stand strong on it and that we build upon it.
-- a judge meddling condemning weight when it comes to anybody's lifestyle or any.
He was able to answer Shep -- -- questions about social conservatism that it is very important to -- It it.
In that interview alone and maybe again really respect what -- scams work.
And it's no surprise that he has the support that he has.
And his patient way of camp heating over all these months.
Is now really I think he knocked in the support that is being -- how in the polls he's moved up in the last couple of weeks and -- I said a few weeks ago.
Yes he would do very very well in Iowa and I look forward to seeing the results of what he's able to produce tomorrow.
Governor take a listen to this we remnant that we had this -- out last week this is the boat rogue Sarah Palin's Iowa earthquake -- let's take a listen.
Are you unhappy with the current GOP field let me tell you something you are not alone -- thousands of -- as we vote rogue it's the caucus for Sarah Palin on January 3.
Let Iowa and the entire country know we want real leadership and real reform in DC so come on Iowa vote -- on January 3 paid for and authorized by Sarah -- -- earthquake who is responsible for the content of this and -- had not authorized by Sarah Palin Sarah back any candidate or candidates committee.
So governor what -- that there's a there's a ground -- of people who want you to run this ad is just an example of it.
What do you say to those who say will Sarah Palin jump in this race.
You know I think that there is a groundswell still -- support for someone who is so committed to the sudden the relentless reform that is needed in congress and in the White House in order to get the country back on the right track in order to get us working again.
Not just for me but four others say and I wouldn't be surprised if there aren't names written and tomorrow evening and in Iowa but done.
You know -- it at this point the film is what it is.
They all have straight all of these candidates have strengths all of these candidates have been strength and through this process has been -- has been a tough process.
I think all the candidates are out of position now where they will be less likely to be over -- when it comes to.
Dealing with the primary.
Campaign it is going to be top up against the bombing in 90% of the media had a billion dollars and everything else that they'll have thrown.
Up against them.
All of these candidates have been strength and and I am happy with this bill that I I do wish there were more of them who.
That understood the gravity of the situation when it comes to America's -- announces today it would start really talking about the budget cuts that are needed.
But in the film is what it is and that you know I look forward to supporting.
The winner of this primary process because the generals going to be top.
Companies said it a couple of times -- feel is what it is but is there room for one more in the field.
You know I set I think was TU -- a couple of weeks ago that there still is time they're still is room in that -- for others and what I Saturn I was surprised that.
That fingers point back to me like I was talking about solely myself jumping in there -- talking about and number of candidates still who have that the practical possibility.
A jump -- and having their name.
On ballots -- being right in candidates.
And I still think that there's timing and -- you know that.
We'll see who we'll see if that happens certain.
That there's time in that march 6 Super Tuesday there's a lot of time between now and then granted some of deadlines have past some -- Very conservative states at deadlines have past as well but if there happens to be as strong right in.
Swell for him for Governor Palin would you consider getting in after Iowa.
I I don't see that happening so without hypothetical yeah I haven't really taken the time even to considered I don't see it happening I think that.
Voters are desiring it in this and I believe human nature we want a combination of the strengths of all of the candidates who are presently in the film.
We want that somebody like -- Ron Paul whose domestic austerity measures that he wants to implement.
Can be combined with other score very strong on foreign policy.
We want to make sure that we have the strongest characteristics.
Of each of these candidates kind of been.
Put together in one perfect candidate which isn't going to happen so we're gonna pick the best at that that we have that's been offered today and will put that person up against Barack Obama and look forward to that -- vigorous and an aggressive campaign in the general.
Governor earlier today Donald Trump was on FOX & Friends and he said he was getting his -- is getting his ducks in line for a third party run.
In the events whoever the GOP nominates isn't what is up so what he feels is is -- the standard for the GOP.
What do you think of that do you think he will do something like that if he did.
Where would your support life.
Getting pretty sick and tired of people.
Can damn mean and heading down Donald Trump.
For calling -- like he sees it and exercising his right as an American to express is -- use.
-- -- via talking about a third party candidacy I couldn't do that because I believe personally that a third party candidacy.
Allow some greater.
Assurance that Barack Obama would be reelected and that's the last thing on earth I want to see happen.
But -- Donald Trump.
He has been an act -- all part of fiscal conservative in his ideas that he has unsupported -- that he has that progressed as he flirted with the idea of running it in the primary.
And -- and still be switched to his voter registration to independent -- strong supporter of many of these are Republican candidates.
And turn on him I think unfairly unnecessarily.
In order to appease you know I guess -- more politically correct people in their own campaigns that I thought that was unfortunate because Donald Trump.
Have a lot to offer he is a business -- he understands that governments -- -- just squash is.
The ability for him and -- others to create jobs for the rest of us who.
So desire to make it are voted not to look to government to make it for us so.
You know for the also have continued to cut down Donald Trump -- you know when not to show about it -- Don't -- -- the third party candidate work even harder for York for your candidate didn't you know I assume that.
GOP will we'll find out who it is it's not that via -- Iowa tomorrow then threw.
South Carolina at New Hampshire and before South Carolina and then Florida after that.
-- -- staying on that third party candidacy Ron Paul has that may be indicated -- he has not even know where it came from but at one point or another.
The thought of a Ron Paul third party candidacy was out there.
-- you think of that one.
Well what's wrong call to Westwood Donald Trump -- -- -- I respect that they have that right to.
You know -- team decided to perhaps mount a third party candidacy however I.
I just -- based on history based on.
What I know about campaigns is too often it allows the power of the incumbency to be strength and -- for that -- that incumbent to stay in here in this case Barack Obama heaven for good.
-- we have to go through four more years of Barack Obama and his failed socialist policies so.
Ron Paul he's got some great things operating and do you know I I I -- surprise that so many people are forgetting that he is.
The one who was running with scissors -- to paraphrase daily caller who says.
Yes Ron Paul understands that we need to cut domestic spending not just.
-- kinda that trajectory of growth of government debt but to actually cut it sort of the private sector can grow and progress -- Paul's got some good ideas.
In that respect and he has these strongest I believe.
Most loyal base of support that's what he's gonna do well in Iowa tomorrow and with that base of support no doubt there really really pushing him.
Two amount that third party.
Again I couldn't do it because.
I I'll do what ever anything that I can do to make sure that Barack Obama doesn't have a greater -- -- Even if it's say it Ron Paul GOP nominee.
No problem all of the GOP nominee ever bear what am I I yeah I thought about it if he we're about to run third party.
-- -- -- -- that the reason I ask it that -- is because a lot of people said yes Ron Paul has a lot of support -- yellow sport Iowa he's got a very.
He's backers are there are out it won't matter if it's raining snowing sleet and they'll still be there and noble from he'll do well.
However they say he's less electable is electability is much lower than some of the other candidates so if a word to be a Ron Paul.
Going up against a Barack Obama some would say well that therein lies a dilemma what do you do there.
Now I I think it if Ron Paul is the candidate.
Remember it it is a very arduous and still -- long process to ever get to that point you know it still may be months from now before we know who.
That nominee would be so if if he is the one who has then filtered out to from all these.
Primary candidates if he is the wind and I would be there supporting him and I would hope that Ron Paul is Smart enough to pick cabinet members and a VP who understands the need to support Israel.
Two go ahead and they do all the we can't to strengthen our military and not become an isolationist country.
Out which way it I believe lead to a less peaceful.
-- -- world and Ron Paul would have to make sure that he surrounds himself with people who can kind of temper some of his ideas on foreign policy.
Governor there is Iran right now is testing missiles in the -- -- -- -- near the strait of -- -- in the Persian gulf.
The only reason why bring that up is the thought of Ron Paul saying that we should remove ourselves from in the Middle East that militarily.
While that goes on simultaneously this can't bode well for a for for Ron Paul running for president right now -- Now you know the tiny babies providential maybe I maybe it's just -- coincidental ironic but what's that that they overheated.
Term oil right now in the Middle East I eight is showing us that we need a candidate.
Who will be strong with foreign policy when it comes to protecting our ally in the Middle East.
-- and also when it comes to doing all the we -- T domestically developed our own resource assault or not reliance on these countries in the Middle East to produce for -- And up and yell at.
At it again -- it kind of goes -- say that -- Paul isn't necessarily ideal wine to strengthen our military want to necessarily protect that.
Our ally Israel.
You know -- -- there's still a lot of debate about that in my call to any opportunity to correct some of the misperceptions that are out there about him.
-- he knocked the last couple days talking about how pro Israel he hits.
He just -- to go about that protect -- protected -- our ally in a different way than most of us would want to we believe strengthening our military providing aid to Israel.
Vocal Lee and in other means supporting our ally over there is the way to push its ocean to show support -- Ron Paul evidently -- some other ideas on how he's supporting Israel.
Our governor but but -- you and I both spent a lot of time in around the energy industry there are a lot of ideas that that you have that maybe you could lend to anyone of these candidates turning the page a little bit.
A lot of people companies say bowling we talked about this year yet you and -- governor and a bunch -- only.
I'm a true conservative -- -- vote for the I'm looking to feel that doesn't seem to have a true conservative at least one that's electable against Barack Obama.
What do we do what -- this one more time governor what what should a real concern -- -- the real conservative vote for.
-- -- I still am not at the point air -- to tell people whom I believe that they should vote for it's quite easy for me with that senatorial candidates said.
And house representative candidates and gubernatorial candidates.
But this score around this is a tough one air still because again it with the streets of all of them and and obviously because man is -- and fallible everybody has their weaknesses to but.
What the strengths of each one of these candidates.
When you just love to be able to combined them and find out -- perfect person and go out there boldly and tell people you need to vote for this person and that's how America will recover you know go out there to get in finding that perfect person.
There are a lot of people out there to save maybe there is -- someone out there who could combine some of the best parts of a lot of the candidates I might be talking to right now.
The government let's talk 48 hours from now after the Iowa Caucuses results command 12 and three.
Whoever they may be will we see a few of them drop out if it's not the maybe the leader leaders right now Romney.
Ron Paul Rick Santorum and may be new team -- anyone else if they don't end up in the top three or four you think they'll drop.
What you know I don't think Rick Perry's gonna drop out because he's still got money and he and money of course -- attention and you'll be able to get that attention in New Hampshire and beyond perhaps.
In the I think Huntsman should drop out because he -- he -- -- the old college try in Iowa and I think that that's a fence to be.
It's you know he did to the entire.
-- it'll make it in America where.
-- -- -- Other America they're being represented -- in Iowa and Huntsman doesn't even want to give that -- a big effort that.
I think most of us would have liked to have -- -- I think Huntsman who what he's.
Paul when only one or two or three or whatever the single digits are today.
Perhaps he'll be dropping out lets you -- -- that in his own money and perhaps even go into debt to run for president.
I yeah I Eric I do think that we'll see.
Drop out and ask for Michelle Bachmann you know she have a lot to offer also but I don't think it's -- time this go around and I believe that unless he too wants it.
Spend your money your start borrowing money and perhaps going to debt which -- heaven forbid you know you do that to your face plate.
Mop and perhaps she is -- too.
Who would start -- -- supporters of -- why don't we coalesce around one of the other candidates and let's move together as as a team did.
To get that who writes that primary candidate chosen.
Governor it was a pleasure -- you it was a power -- along -- -- I said this is great we have the governor.
Former governor of Alaska on what -- -- just wanted to get your thoughts.
Iowa New Hampshire going forward GOP conservatives -- And establish Republicans we covered it all governor thank you so much.
Thank -- air -- in here our union worker.
