It's he says he's on the East Coast and a welcome back everyone to our extended version of fox difference today it's time to bring in the governor the former governor of Massachusetts.
Who wants to be that president United States Mitt Romney good morning to you.
Good morning Gretchen.
So I know today's obviously huge day for you and -- what you must be pleased as punch.
When you look at the recent golden CNET you're on top and you really haven't didn't have much in Iowa.
Other than the last ten days.
Well let's say it's good to be among the that -- clump at the top if you will there about three of us that I think are all tied.
So I'm not sure exactly what will happen in terms of 12 and three but I think all three of us we'll come out with a big boost from -- from Iowa.
That the New Hampshire and South Carolina so it's a long road ahead.
It is a long road and Newt Gingrich has come out and you know this yesterday he said no weren't mr.
And he's gonna try to hit check every day between now and whenever.
Just a little while ago over on CBS Norah O'Donnell said to him use golden Mitt Romney his friends who are running this super pac.
That has funded that and you said of Mitt Romney someone who will lie to you to get the president.
To be president will like you wind the president I have to ask you are you calling Mitt Romney a liar.
And then he essentially said yes and then she said you're calling Iran the alliance.
Well you seem shocked by it yes I mean that's it.
Your response being called a liar.
I understand it must be very angry and I don't exactly understand why but.
Look I wish him well it's a long road ahead -- he's good guy -- guy like Kia -- and a we get that many months ahead of a self I'll leave it at that.
I think one of the things that he's upset about is some of -- -- -- adds.
I know you say you don't have total control over that have really fired away at him in Iowa for the last couple of weeks.
Continue to go on the record saying that he was not going to do negative -- And he had asked you to pledge not to do with negative ads they obviously worked for you in Iowa right.
Well actually I -- the Ron Paul ads for by far the most effective and and pointing out the speakers background.
The the super -- that happens to endorse me is has put some ads out.
You know I I can't control -- as you know what we're not allowed to have a coordination between a campaign of these that these independent -- I'm sure they they may have had an effect but to the speakers had just as much difficulty in the polls in New Hampshire as he has an Iowa and I don't think -- any negative ads going -- there.
You know I know that it's always tempting to look for someone else to blame but at some point you gotta stop and say OK what things can I do better.
And you know I'm gonna keep battling my campaign in the way I I think is best and defending my record and that the speaker decides to come back to me why that's part of the process I'm not I'm ready for it -- -- my shoulders are wide and if I can't handle this kind of attack wiped.
How on the world -- I handled the attack it's gonna come from President Obama yeah which might already be coming.
I guess this is part of the reason why you called Newt Gingrich zany do you think -- response is zany.
Well may follow that category.
You know I I think the speaker set a couple of things that have been very troubling to people want.
One was as Paul Ryan.
Put together a plan that -- to finally up to solidify the future of Medicare and virtually every Republican congress voted for it.
The speaker said it was right wing and its social engineering.
That that's kind of and in usual commented came at a time this -- legs out from underneath conservatives in the country.
And that he appeared -- course of a bad with that Nancy Pelosi ad touting global warming legislation.
He -- I think those -- the things I was referring to what I've what I mentioned there's a -- of the speaker -- are bringing to fired employee of viewers who was trotted out last time he wanted to be the senator from Massachusetts against Ted Kennedy.
His name is Randy Johnson Randy Johnson worked for Paper company Bain Capital took it over.
He had fired along with -- others he's angry listened.
I look at the candidates that are out there I understand what his record is I know what he did to us -- -- -- They bought and had 92 they've bought my plant 94.
They went public with her IPO in 96.
And then in 2000 they -- and -- go bankrupt and then made a hundred million dollars.
Tell -- what's right from wrong.
Well it sounds like he was trotted out by the DNC so you're right there already coming after you.
Of course -- well and I I've got to be able to talk to people across the country about the president's record.
This is a president who lost more jobs during his tenure than any president since Hoover this is two million jobs that he lost as president and by the way.
When he was overseeing General Motors and and Chrysler.
How many -- -- -- how many dealerships how many thousands upon thousands of Americans had to be let go in an effort to try and save those businesses.
That's that we did our business I'm very happy that my former life we help create over a 100000 new jobs by the way.
We created more jobs and Massachusetts.
That this president's created in the entire country so the president wants to talk about jobs and I hope he does.
Would be -- very my record with his record and he comes up very very short we'll governor what would you say to that fellow Randy Jones right there who did lose his job.
In that takeover.
No one ever likes to see if -- lose her job it's just a tragedy.
And at any time -- at a better price that you try to turn around that's going down that you know -- down the -- you try to turn it around and sometimes.
You have to cut back on the size of the enterprise it's an awful lot I think they have to do -- to try -- do that.
To save the business that's what I'm sure we're gonna hear from President Obama about why he -- all those jobs -- General Motors he wanted to save it.
That is the nature of free enterprise.
And I know the president's gonna try to put free enterprise on trial.
I'll be able to talk to him about his mistakes and I think they've been severe because they've they've led to a lot of people -- got to work that didn't need to be out of work.
I want to bring you back to Iowa to respond to somebody who's powerful there and that is Bob Vander plaques he is ahead of the family leader an evangelical group.
And when what's fascinating is so -- people going out of the caucus tonight or part of the evangelical movement.
Now I interviewed him earlier he has endorsed Rick Santorum I asked him if you end up being the nominee.
Would he support you could -- and here's his response.
Fought throughout this cycle he has pretty much just our base.
Not shown us a whole lot of he'll let you wanna come and visit -- so I think we need to sit down and we need to have some of those businesses hopefully.
The conservatives could rally around him.
Right now we're in a primary cycle -- that primary cycle says we need to find the alternative and right now I think that guy is senator Santorum.
How do you respond to mr.
-- -- Yeah I'm real pleased that the Tea Party years at a state like New Hampshire for instance.
Overwhelmingly support my candidacy and and that's a state that knows me pretty well because I was governor next door.
Strong conservatives across their of the country recognize my record as a conservative record.
Add that pleased to have their support that look I understand that other candidates have there endorsers.
Rick Santorum got that one.
I'm pleased with -- with people like a Chris Christie that they have kind of my team.
The governor of South Carolina former governor of New Hampshire John Sununu you know we we -- ever endorsers and I'm pleased with mine I'm sure their -- -- there's -- and I -- I'm delighted to be in this hunt.
To be in in the group right now the looks like I got a good shot -- go on the whole distance and hope I'll be able to win the whole enchilada and get back the White House and finally get America on track to get governor do you do you feels that you -- that they his base Bob -- -- based did you do that unintentionally or intentionally.
Of course that I I I've been meeting over the past years you know.
With groups across the country also raising money so we have a campaign that could take it to Barack Obama.
What we can't have a president command that massively outspent us in crisis I wanna have a campaign the successful -- this and winning a state or two.
But -- successful in getting the nomination and replacing Barack Obama that is the objective so we can get this country back on track.
I think one of the concerns -- of -- Bob Vander Platz is shared by a lot of other conservatives in this country.
Is that they don't for whatever reason feel that you are conservative enough.
And they feel that that if you're the nominee that President Obama will win because may be some of those more conservative voters won't come out and support you.
Do you need to go back to that base and try and get -- -- that they don't say comments like that you're dissing.
You know it's always a worthwhile effort to to speak to people in your party to have them energized and enthusiastic for this second predict.
Whoever our nominee is our party will come together and rally around to support them because we recognize that we have to replace Barack Obama.
And I I would by the way take great exception of the idea that that -- not conservative enough look at my record as governor balance the budget every one of my four years.
Cut taxes nineteen times -- -- our state police to help enforced immigration law.
Drove our schools the number one in the nation -- kept them there rather and also make sure we get English Immersion in our schools I'm pretty proud of a very conservative record.
And that record ethical stand up to it that of virtually anybody else running in this race.
Well there you go four years ago you were in second now there's high hopes amongst your camp did you gonna come in first.
Regardless you go into New Hampshire next we have all the double digit lead.
Governor Romney thanks so much for joining us.
Brian Gretchen and Steve good to be with -- this morning thank you very much where code it's called there.
