And welcome back to Hannity and tonight we were only four days away from the New Hampshire first in the nation primary and we continue he joins me live from the granite state.
Republican presidential contender big water and Iowa Pennsylvania senator former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum right -- of let me throw -- left that you.
Because this keeps coming up in that I think there's one poll that's similar in South Carolina but nationwide.
This -- -- New Hampshire WM UR 59%.
Say that Mitt Romney has the best chance of beating Barack Obama.
That's it pretty significant majority.
Why do you think people there's been a long process now people -- New Hampshire pay attention why do you think they believe that at this point.
-- if you took a poll two weeks before the Iowa caucus you probably found a similar similar number.
The bottom line is that the that the all the talk all the chatter is how Romney is the guy they can win because he's the moderate.
He's the establishment.
And the bottom line is.
From from my perspective.
That we need a sharp contrast with President Obama number one to win and we need someone who's gonna make -- Obama the issue.
If someone who doesn't have a bad record on the Wall Street bailout doesn't have a bad record on.
On the on health care doesn't have a bad record on.
Climate change we need someone -- -- -- sharp contrast that we can show we're the party of believing in the American people and free markets and free enterprise.
And building things -- success from the bottom up not the top down and that contrast -- governor Romney doesn't watch that's one number two shot.
Governor not Robby is never run an election as a conservative and won anything.
I did it for elections to -- a heavily democratic house district blue collar steel worker house districts in -- outside of Pittsburgh.
And two in a state.
That had a million more adept registered Democrats and Republicans and led the ticket and all four of those elections so.
I've got the record of running as a conservative in states industries.
That we need to win if we're gonna defeat Barack Obama.
Let's talk a little bit about Newt Gingrich.
I spoke to him also earlier this week.
And I asked him about this idea of teaming up with the -- and he sounded favorable.
Than it was yesterday made this -- I think -- a -- person and and we've worked together for many years.
I think there's some differences if you look at the the total level of experience.
I think that I am of substantially more experienced Americans and actually running a very large government operation if you think of us as partners.
If you would clearly and historical experience of in the junior partner.
And so may wanna join up but he does say he's putting you in the junior -- position but you are friends with you guys get along very absolutely.
You know -- -- -- -- -- -- subtle -- -- but I feel it is the junior partner.
When I was in the House of Representatives today at the big thing that turn the House of Representatives.
From -- -- a Democrat to Republicans was the scandals that that I uncovered along with John Boehner and -- and also the gang -- seven.
And we went out there and we fought both Republican and democratic leadership on corruption with check bouncing scandal in the house post office scandal that sent Dan Rostenkowski to jail.
Newt Gingrich was nowhere to be seen on any of those he sat in the background.
I would agree that many of his house in the house leadership which he was a part of that fought us and bought us very very tough way in new did not but he certainly didn't go out there.
And fight the battles and take the arrows and make the changes that were necessary.
They he was not even a junior partner he wasn't even if he wasn't even in the law firm bought the in the case of.
And the case is going into every last week is good to going to be worse than that the giants.
And and and -- -- and the saints in the Packers and everything people's plane.
Well now it's just I've just I've just -- out the facts about love note but I beat you can't help he can't say with respect to that.
To that particular situation which was a very key part.
But Republicans taking control that he had he had a lot to do -- he was doing other things -- they were let me ask you this stuff but he just wasn't involved in that.
Because.
Look at I know and it's interesting desired item on Twitter at Sean Hannity I I read my emails I get letters from people I take phone calls on radio I'm -- love to read what people say and and we have people all over the map supporting this candidate passionately that candidate.
There's one thing -- if you look at the president's proposal to cut defense.
It's scary to me.
Especially because I think the world was more dangerous it with -- -- on the streets of warm milk moves.
I CB a missile bases in Venezuela warning America to -- warships out of the straits.
Pretty frightening stuff and of course their desire for nuclear weapon.
Cutting defense circumventing the constitution I find it lawless what the president did -- this recess appointment this week I agree five trillion dollars and Obama -- The economy is not getting better unemployment is not getting better.
That -- in the big picture here at the end of this process.
You guys are going to unite is that fair.
-- absolutely look.
I'm the very -- voting for any of the candidates up on the stage tomorrow night all of them will be some period to Barack Obama and even around Oakland.
In and I've said this I really believe this.
Remember who Barack Obama ran past when he ran the first time he was the big anti war he was gonna got everything pull America out pull America back.
-- -- sat down and realize that you know if he was gonna ever run for reelection.
And he couldn't given the threats that we're facing this country do what he wanted to do -- President Obama the second term as commander in chief.
He just said he was gonna now manage the decline of our military and focus all resources more and more in this country to grow the welfare state.
This is a man who will do just as much damage to our military posture in his next four years is Ron Paul would do and as -- for.
One of the things where I noticed that that the Mitt Romney camp John McCain to the yesterday is -- you on the issue of earmarks.
Now the constitution does say that congress authorizes spending and money right.
You defend the the practice and you've -- there and when asked about a -- retreat from it but as you think what.
Well I'd say number you're right the congress there is authorized under the constitution to spend money.
Jim dement who was someone who focused on on repealing earmarks and getting rid of earmarks you're marked himself why because.
You get elected by your state to make sure that you've got resources going back to your state and some sort of proportion.
To what what they're do and that's part of your job has been a represented -- senator from that state.
What happened was there became a lot of abuse and that abuse was tied to increasing spending.
On on appropriation bills that abuse what had to be stopped and an -- at the 2010 election.
I supported ending earmarks but the idea that congress appropriating money and allocating where those resources are going is inherently corrupt.
-- -- John McCain creation because John McCain had a very bad record on reforming entitlements.
He didn't wanna do that's where the real money isn't so he had a bad record on that so we created this is the litmus test for spending cuts in Washington it is not it is a very small part.
Of what goes on in the big problems we have to face or Social Security Medicare Medicaid food stamps except her and I've been a leader on all of those.
All right senator we're gonna see you Monday night will be doing this program from New Hampshire and congratulations on your success and Iowa and we'll see up there.
Thank you very much on that thing -- Rick Santorum that god help us out you bet there.
