And were back at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire.

Joining us now is the candidate who finished in the top here and Iowa and as a strong second now in most polls heading into Tuesday's primary here in New Hampshire.

Congressman Ron Paul welcome to FOX News Sunday.

Thank you very much nice to be happy let's start with your third place finish in Iowa this week according to the entrance -- you took 40%.

Of voters who describe themselves as moderate.

Or liberal but only 14%.

Of Republicans question how can you win the GOP nomination if Republicans don't vote for.

We -- like there was another analysis that they -- -- you know nearly half for forty some percent of the independent but.

Another state and another number was close to forty some network conservative so maybe there independence or something like that.

But now the message has to be across the board we have to get Republican votes.

But right now I'm very strong on those individuals who wanna commit to the party you know the young people they -- -- -- the company and I do very very well there in the independence you know I -- thing.

To but I still have to it being a you know attract those votes who consider themselves convention Republicans.

But you know I I talk about you know the wisdom of the Republican Party they talk about limited government and balanced budgets.

And because.

You know I have to steal up against the party some people don't quite figure it out but I really speaks going way too.

Of the Republicans who think that we should have limited government.

Here in New Hampshire roughly 40%.

Of the primary vote is expected to be.

So called on declared voters not registered either as Republicans or Democrats are you counting.

On the -- declared voters here in New Hampshire.

Oh absolutely and we we need to solicit them and of course we go to -- to the Republicans as well.

But in the whole spirit up here you know falls in the place for what I've been talking about for a long time you know very limited government economically and with personal liberties.

And is so we work very hard with it with the independents that I think we're doing quite well with and with the Republicans to.

Your campaign manager says that your focus is to win.

Five caucus states caucus states like Minnesota and Maine and Missouri.

Because if you take five states -- -- can then get your name placed in nomination.

At the Republican Convention in Tampa in August question.

That sounds more like a strategy to make a prime time speech at the convention or to affect the party platform that it does to win the nomination.

Of course that's the fall back you could open if we don't pull off a -- first place yes that would be a good goal.

And good people ask me why I run in -- you know -- run to win and I have won a lot but we also.

Want to help direct the party in the country in a certain -- so.

That would be a very very positive strategy could have an influence in the party.

And that's who we certainly would look at them as well.

Well let me ask you about that because you know that's a big deal made about the platform at the convention and and frankly I don't have to tell you people.

Ignore it and why is it important to you to get your -- -- anti war views anti government views.

Into the party platform.

Well I think so.

You're right.

But that's also the reason the American people are so sick and tired of the promises by.

Republican and Democrat leadership you know they make these promises they have platforms.

And they go in and they don't do anything about it Democrats like act like Republicans Republicans act like Democrats to keep spending the money.

They don't shrink the size of the government they don't protect -- -- so they know why do you care what's in the platform.

Well I guess I'm an optimist and you know that.

You -- you keep plugging -- got have to be an optimist because I've been -- plucking away for a long time.

My views -- -- since -- it's it's a seven days but all of a sudden they're getting a lot of attention a lot of popularity the country.

Out of desperation now is looking at a constitutional approach you and foreign policy they're -- of the war.

Just think how many people not looking at monetary policy that only happens.

Not every hundred years where people get real concern about monetary policy and everybody knows we're up against the wall on this spending and the debt as a problem and I know -- very aggressive on dealing with the deficits that we have.

You lose your speech in Iowa Tuesday night I think it's fair to say that you made a statement.

That no candidate running for president of the United States has ever made before but -- I'm waiting for the day when we can say we're all Austrians now.

I think you grade now the president very presidential candidates -- -- you're advancing it's something you believe very deeply in the Austrian school of economics.

Which opposes the idea of government intervention and time -- Of of downturn of crisis and says basically believes in the value of what's called creative destruction it is that.

What president Paul would do there.

Creative destruction.

Well that -- -- that is the that is the answer to our problems I mean if you want economic growth you have to listen to that.

The you know obviously that's statement comes from.

The fact I didn't have very good thing -- I didn't listen because I'm sure a political Hayward who what are you talking about -- -- they'll your supporters are gonna know you talk about but a lot more people know about and young people on campuses.

Know what you want is -- corrections -- we're talking about a a correction in one year instead of five or ten or fifteen years.

As for instance Japan's been correcting for twenty years and having cleanse their system and got -- of the Mal investment and the bad day -- we did in the thirties.

And we're trying real hard we predicted these problems and said the Mal investment.

Distortions come from the Federal Reserve having artificially low interest serious and don't intervene it does it it it it's gone bad let -- -- -- apple equivalent quickly in the ninety -- 1921 that's exactly what we did it in the GDP went down like 15%.

In debt was liquidated nobody even remembers it.

So now when you prolong it and then you prop things up like in the depression we do things like.

How well the farmers didn't have enough money so we needed more money for crops that we have a you know piled the crops under what people were starving that's the silliness of government intervention thing you need to get rid of the mistakes it's sort of like.

You need the operation you need to surgical removal of the tumor.

In the tumor is the mistakes in the doubt this is why I make bold proposals to cut a trillion dollars out of the budget.

Last week.

You were asked about and defended your criticism of the 1964.

Civil Rights Act.

At which ended discrimination in public accommodation back in two thousands for.

You said best and we're gonna put it up on the -- the rights of all private property owners even those whose actions decent people find abhorrent.

Must be respected if we are to maintain a free society.

It's are you saying that the owner of a restaurant the private restaurant should be able to decide whether or not to serve black people.

What I'm saying is I'm challenging individual -- -- to say what is private property.

Is private property is your house private property that your restaurant is not how do you separate the 21 is Gooden and you know 11 isn't.

But yes we we believe that the -- of the bad loss to Jim Crow laws.

-- government forces immigration their evil monster course we segregation he -- AM to we have to get rid of those.

But you don't throw away all private property because.

We're convinced that you are civil liberties are protected by your property you have a right of free speech he have a TV station this is popping like you walk into the studio -- exert themselves.

The -- -- -- let me let me finish if I could.

The bedroom -- private property so if you want to protect sexual preferences you protect the property of the bedroom so we can't separate civil liberties from property.

Specifically are you saying that if -- on a restaurant and I don't wanna serve.

An African American.

I should be able now you know what they've done it.

The whole thing is is that's ancient history that's been settled a long time ago nobody's gonna go back to it would be most devastating things stupid.

For people to do that did lose your business so that that would really want.

It would be wrong it would be morally wrong but I'm not going to throw out to -- because I have such high regard for for property rights.

But what what what did it did the whole thing is is sometimes these things don't work out as -- what do they do they privatize the lot of things you know they had.

Private clubs and things like that.

I think if the change people's hearts and minds.

But you have to understand property and property protect.

Our religious beliefs are personal beliefs are civil liberties maybe throw that all allowed.

Just think of how often government who was the culprit when there was slavery to Jim Crow laws and AM in -- you know segregation in the military.

Is that this was all governments -- we want that out of the way.

But but it sounds like ideally and I'm not saying he would do it because you're also practical it sounds like ideally you would like to return back a century.

To the days when government didn't intervene when it was an economic problem didn't soften the blow.

And quite frankly didn't enforce racial and -- -- -- weakening ourselves has been advancing the cause of liberty in a modern state because we go back a hundred years -- depicted Jim Crow laws and slavery.

So now we don't want to go back even the gold standard I don't look back.

To an imperfect ghost -- we want to build on the freedoms that our founders gave us in the tremendous success we've had in the prosperity.

Now we're losing this we're losing our liberties with you know national defense authorization act and the -- American citizens I mean we're going backwards on this and all civil liberties going to be you know attacked if we don't reverse that.

It's finally you have recently been leaving the door open.

Again to running as an independent if you don't win -- Republican nomination I wanna take it back out to a conversation that you and I had.

Two months ago here on FOX News Sunday let's watch.

I have no intention of doing that -- that -- that doesn't matter don't make any sense to me to even think about it let alone plan to do that because.

Because I don't want to do it.

You'd like Nancy I'm sorry episode and I love it now but so my question is where are you what you're saying now what -- I'll decide later war I have no intention of doing great because I don't wanna delighted.

I'd give the same answered I don't wanna do -- I have no plan on doing it.

I wanna see how well I do you know I'm doing pretty darn well it mentally -- in certain -- -- -- you leaving the door opener you did not live in the dark.

I'm not an absolutist when you know what I left congress I had no intention whatsoever to go -- -- But you know move 1215 years -- I said I will never return to congress -- would have closed the door.

But I have no plans everybody knows I have no intention -- you know I'm doing that -- that would be.

A bit of a burden.

Besides I don't want to do it couldn't.

None -- -- -- but hey thank you as always for coming in and talking whether us.

Good luck on Tuesday night and will -- on the campaign -- thank you.
