Former Utah governor Jon Huntsman bit big here in New Hampshire in the polls show he's gained some ground in the final stretch.

He says his appeal to independents and even some Democrats could give him the best shot at defeating President Obama.

And -- -- his campaign on convincing New Hampshire voters of exactly that former governor Jon Huntsman is live with us here.

In our newsroom it's an interim coach great to see you thank Jeff good to be with your -- ago I'm just looking at the real clear politics average of all polls which is what we -- -- right.

You're trend line is up.

Where every one else is down everyone everyone.

Nothing like catching that buzz at the very end -- that's textbook timing -- the -- is gonna happen or not all I can tell you is I woke up this morning.

With the belief that we have done everything possible -- Hampshire we work -- tirelessly we've done -- 170.

Public events town hall meetings and house parties we've deployed my daughters -- -- We've been on a sincere.

And and I hope provided division for the people of this great state about where we can find this country in the years ahead.

So having at all that you just got to step back -- -- We're gonna let the people of New Hampshire -- cast a vote decide whether or not it was good enough for them.

-- deliver the results tonight.

You've got it done this on your own most of the candidates who traipse through this newsroom come with a was quite an entourage.

It seems to -- you in the family and a couple friends that said you know we don't have the establishment -- -- I have three daughters but I have to tell you that -- -- the establishment circus right out of the water in terms of their effectiveness and getting their -- message across and connecting with the younger generation a couple of -- pundits have said it.

That Barack Obama was a genius.

When he major ambassador to China because that pretty much made it impossible for you to ever be the Republican nominating.

Well we stood up and serve our country I always -- putting my country first we serve a couple of years which was our original plan to come back -- you see a country that you'll love.

That is mired in all kinds of challenges and you say boy and twice elected governor.

I've lived overseas for time served as an ambassador three times.

Yeah either stand on the sideline you get in the arena -- Teddy Roosevelt would have recommended in -- broad and expand the debate is that's where we find ourselves lot of people think you might have been able to do a lot bigger numbers though along the way I wonder if you ever look in the morning in the mirror in the morning when shaving go to -- I wish I hadn't taken that job.

Never never in a thousand years -- step up and serve your country when asked and that's a philosophy -- take them to migrate from.

Check where we're in a period with China right now they're trying to buy up all the oil in the resource isn't.

We have some disagreements with them and I just wonder what you feel like the road ahead -- his life.

We've had disagreements for forty years we'll have disagreements for another forty years so one thing that we -- -- know about China.

Is that we have a huge opportunity as a country to Begin rebuilding our manufacturing muscle in this country.

Because -- economy is moving down in terms of GDP performance and as it moves down.

Unemployment goes up and is unemployment goes up so this long term uncertainty in the investment dollars that always lands in China.

Is going to be looking for an alternative and I say I wanna be the president -- could stand up and say folks.

This market is getting in gear and we're gonna become the greatest in the world and we're gonna get that investment back here in the United States we have an opening things to China.

Not to be feared there's an opportunity there for the United States now -- the president could say we fixed taxes -- it's a regulatory environment -- step toward greater energy independence.

We get.

We get moving toward job training vocational -- developments well and to people who fear China and its rise you would say I would say -- What does China really -- And where they spending most of the money they fear their own people there spending their money on the ministry of domestic security on state security because they fear there of people about the outside.

More on domestic security at apparatus then on their defense ministry and I say that should tell the whole story we're trying to -- how you feel about South Carolina.

I feel.

Good about South Carolina all feel excellent about South Carolina if we can move this market -- New Hampshire.

If we can somehow and with a respectable finish.

That's the way you move the market downstream -- -- South Carolina isn't gonna come to life.

Fundraising will be improved it will broaden or volunteer base would got to prove the point of electability right here in New Hampshire that's -- -- support.

For us you know they're -- they did a lot of pulls down their steel -- bear the late night comedy guy.

Tried to sponsor of the New Hampshire priming the South Carolina primaries from South Carolina and leaves you give like -- -- million dollars something and they wouldn't go forward but.

Public -- policy polling.

Decided to go ahead and pull it with Stephen cold beer in the race and have you seen this now look at this very.

I don't know.

Governor.

He's beating you.

Well what I was on his show recently promised -- the coach -- Bob I think we're getting that here in New Hampshire that going to be looking for the go -- but it's at Carolina.

How you gonna do that I guess if you come out of here you said yeah I think you said on Meet the Press about come out of there with a head of steam what's it what's ahead -- what what what are your best hopes for tonight.

You've got to beat market expectations wherever you -- criminalist for the Huntsman campaign we've got to do one better and it would if people kind of look at tonight's results and they say wow we didn't expect that we didn't see it coming.

That's ahead of steam.

And that's called electability and that translates into numbers to Begin running up very quickly and South Carolina.

Because a good voters and that open primary state -- it's an open primaries have -- to -- a -- We want somebody who can be Barack Obama and in order to do that you've actually got to convince people who voted for Obama last night to vote for you.

And that means you've got to cross the traditional boundaries -- time and with some unaffiliated.

Independent voters Jon Huntsman governor Vuitton shop -- -- you could see you thank you good -- Tony that barbecue down -- it's one thing they can't do well I've already addicted -- mustard based senior pretending you're a politician I know -- double standard is better.

I don't better I love the stuff go to -- All right.
