Welcome to a special edition of -- car port and -- guess -- were coming -- -- from the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
Where there -- literally dozens.
-- cars being displayed here at the show were to take a look at some of the hottest ones including this to 2013.
Dodge -- all -- compact car in the first car developed by dodge in conjunction with its new partners at -- with a step ahead.
Chrysler design goes ahead of the SRT performance division -- Joseph join us.
So exciting stuff here as far as the -- is concerned is this the sort -- they were gonna expect from dodge in the future I mean I know it's a lot.
There's some similarities to the charger and other cars in the lineup but it does have its own book I.
It's in Italy always try to carry -- -- -- using portable -- beginning that this -- And and and he had a very distinctive -- to become kind of -- Dutch unit.
On the overall as an artist on presents its own minds and it's -- celebrating segment we really have participated along.
It has been a lot of this basically replace the caliber of that was a larger -- -- -- -- -- -- you -- This really gone back to the four door sedan compact.
Priest and the -- -- -- -- modified for them yes it's been widened and lengthened and the would like to say it's got so many options and features that you have to almost compared to segment two levels up to get the same kind of features heavily.
Kind of an electronics.
A safety features and also convenience -- this seriously competitive side.
We're focused Chevy cruise and everybody's got some few -- You're coming in the next few years ago.
What it's not the style what's next -- and offers all the -- meaning it's a little roomier than the segment on -- a little more room overall length about the scene.
It's really infotainment and it's got the largest touch -- -- segment.
And a segment -- seven inch LCD screen in the cluster which is infinitely re configurable.
I also is open architecture allows us to continually update the car a year to year month a month so we're really excited that.
Going to be doing a variety of -- power trains and from levels together street -- -- three transmissions and three engines we also have of multiple models in this car can be configured over 150000 ways.
Obviously we'll choices interior trim nicer colors and even up next here he feels like -- Anthony Kennedy and and that's a lot of companies have gone towards more.
Here's your five different cars mentally you can choose from them up and have gone back to something very customizable system in the -- what we're working -- -- -- -- youth market this segment is so big.
Mean it's actually the biggest segment in the US right now if you take fleet sales this is it so it's so competitive and it's only people.
Older customers customers not just youth is everybody loves the size cars this compromise overall we're gonna make sure we have some dubious regard hospitals -- fuel -- doesn't talk about forty most of you know on at least -- capabilities -- -- -- -- -- world's most what you're engine -- we also have peninsula so we're going to be able to again attack the market.
Did three very different engines and John -- two liter four cylinder and then it will work.
We -- and then at 2.4 naturally this -- with the Cecil had technology called -- it's really grabbing the best technology to Europe smoltz was an expertise -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- This is a platform we get to see more -- in the future yet this is the beginning of I think got a fantastic legacy I'm really excited -- very flexible design vehicles on.
It's not good -- dynamically superior it handling.
As -- -- and -- anything we want to release this your resources and the uncertainty we're division here at Chrysler.
-- in the the students and teachers like it was a big areas my guys are confident.
-- Dodgers and the only auto maker betting big on small cars General Motors rolling out.
Number of small vehicles at -- you know including -- Buick compact crossover of the young -- ATS Cadillac sedan.
These two -- here for Chevrolet code.
130 yards and a true 140 yes reverse the president General Motors North America you know a couple years ago.
Small cars were thought of not being very popular in the United States people started buying them.
The other thing we -- Lagos smokes indoors we do think the market -- for this sort of thing now.
So I think there's some some good competitors moved on -- that market over the last few years but.
I think you -- we've had a permanent change here in the way people think I think.
About card -- horsepower.
Against instability of economies in the market.
And so when you have all that you're coming out of it sort of jobless recovery here and hours in some jobs means team.
I think efficiency and you know prudent car.
There's still an emotional.
-- -- your dad was really responsible direct injected technology and you know one point four metre intervals.
-- sufficient -- to drive.
We went -- talked about 9000.
Of the millennial generation.
-- eighty million of those people in market.
About forty million of those folks have money to buy cars we talked about 9000 of those folks and we've gone back and forth over you know the last year year and a half.
And you know we think that you know are really hot -- Either rural drive -- that -- kind of one point four liter war.
Four wheel drive almost ecstatic McIntyre.
Is something that really resonates and you know evidently.
Tell us what he answered quite -- would benefit proposals we're gonna start bouncing in tears off -- -- really gonna resonate very well.
Two very different looking -- this is just an exotic that would almost like a mini can -- over here and which was your favorite.
That's good question it's hard for me because when I saw this for the first time we -- It's sort of brought flashbacks of some of the early touring -- race cars but -- if you look at that used to.
Again and again here's your chance and she balances and it it's like that I like that -- but -- I gotta tell it from me.
This is almost.
Sort of ultimate contradiction in terms of price performance and the exotic nature of its it's almost Italian looking.
But I would say it's very American intangibles it while you're talking about 20000 dollars on either exit the action -- into production right.
Is it easier to make a good looking car at a low price now than it was 1020 years ago -- he never really work.
Affordable cars that look this good is just the new technology make that something that's more -- -- -- I think so I think you know a lot of the manufacturing techniques I mean.
If you do something like this there's so many different materials available that don't cost a lot of money -- -- into exotic shapes of -- things.
And so the architecture behind something like this is also something that you know we've lifted the bar on all -- -- goes in the small cars.
So the regulatory environment has driven them a safety standpoint.
The regulatory environment is is really driven out from a fuel economy and efficiency standpoint so what you're seeing is a driven.
Economy and -- driven industry.
That is now very creative very nimble.
In a very social media sort of way that it is soliciting.
That is feedback from a lot of your potential buyers we.
At what point though does that become.
Test marketing that we have that's been such a dirty word over the years with that you know that in the old fashioned focus group.
There there's a big difference if you say okay well you know we wanted to whistle next pictures content.
You know marketing for iTunes is probably pretty tough you know it it's like that how to treat you I can't tell you look -- here and threw three years and it's very tough for me it.
Good heart rate card design is very cars and so an attractive car is an attractive content.
And so we know that this generation really understands that.
-- you know they're not cutting grass and saving money to buy the first either.
They've got a lot of different you know time.
Constraints -- commitments or demands for entertainment.
They've got the whole web you know that a lot of generations haven't had.
They've gotten a face but they've got all the connectivity and they bring everything with them when they go.
And it's very important when they do get together with -- friends they have something they can all be together.
That's why you offer before person knew what they really stretch bottom line -- you build one of these we we.
-- -- it's okay the sequence.
We are right now with confirmation on -- great chance of hipster wise we're going to the -- piece of it.
And then we're gonna look at putting sophisticated.
Case together for each one of these -- with the linemen so I can answer that quite got on the -- you know you've -- Won't somebody that knows a little something about Jason after the youth market is -- -- -- division which was created to do.
Just that -- it's gonna be doing it with a completely new kind of car for the company.
Rear drive sports -- FRS which goes on sale pretty soon Jack -- is the vice president of -- gonna ask you.
And a little I don't overseas -- this is sold as a Toyota I think every Toyota dealer in America would -- to have this in their shower and how did you scored.
Honestly it is still the only big cult -- 86.
Probably really here in the market in the US market.
Science and Qaeda and she's in kind of styled car.
That was kind of pain this morning and missed it kind of personalized gifts.
He -- -- -- brands as well as what it's about passion for your car when it's needed most passionate and we scored because it is typically where there right.
Up until now you have been selling four wheel drive interesting looking goers often that at us at this is a lot different.
And what's in the -- -- right now is this for the current customer -- -- -- -- different reading this you bring you people who river.
Actually habitable I think lines and it'll bring you fires in the brand because having an authentic rear wheel drive -- expand your fireplace in and of itself.
Two is I think you'll see a lot of people who purchased the TC.
Who previously you know and the weather was for -- your second generation they may want a little bit more and this being just slightly more.
What's gonna give you know those consumers a chance to step up stay within the brand.
Because step up in their choice we're kind of everything is for the expansion of new -- as as well as well as -- the loyalty.
Now what -- just dreaming about this is you developed in conjunction with Subaru unveiled its own version of the PRC.
The two cars look.
Regardless -- specifications are pretty much the same how do you.
How do you sell this.
To someone who's maybe crush of events -- -- what is the difference there that makes this you know for a moment of the collaboration between two big companies I think.
What you're seeing throughout the industry.
Anyway I think you -- with a pocket Federer Arsenio looks -- pursuing how do you find the best for the consumer.
The vehicle is -- huge machine.
Now standpoint they're pretty close to -- the front patient being different on -- come back it's like that was different variations.
The difference is I think we'll -- on the -- Or for cyanide you know we have -- really about this virtualization.
This really kind of making which you are all about.
I think -- even people who come to decide he's somebody who's really wanting to Kelly -- -- -- department -- somebody and as ninety with a car says about them -- of marketing -- different I think for some of the challenges -- -- all wheel drive ran.
We're now bringing in a rear wheel drive the first time into the credit but -- sure how they're going to deal with everything they're fired raises a lot different than what there has been.
Are so I would think -- probably gonna end up.
Probably not a lot of crush on him and he is really talking and I think -- different -- This is an interesting idea because it's you know.
Two very driver programs Narnia but it's not over power and I'll work on balance I hear the tires are from the brilliance and -- -- -- Yes exactly so it's really more about -- on the drive car but I guess within the scope of the reality of today where.
Really cute drop -- -- -- horsepower on the road like you would like to.
Well and and later on you might hear about something -- that we're gonna get regulator about some extra horsepower but honestly.
-- this car is that is the difference in the market but what's a muscle car.
What's sports -- Muscle cars you're sixty pretty heavy usually -- engine services.
-- gravity tremendous handling braking corner.
The -- -- of course are completely Gulfport but not.
-- -- federal raced up the start it's how are handled and play at its right you know.
-- also that we can find it very efficient cars but we don't really expect scarred him I asked him.
It's categories so you can have a combination.
It's -- exciting.
-- value were somewhat lower cost.
High performance has been seen in the marketplace on one thing we haven't seen saw -- heard anything about we.
People do you market isn't interest in this is a hybrid technology some -- there -- -- Is that of the we're gonna see from silent in the future no president and what his name it opera hybrid engine -- every one of -- here.
We've -- within the framework Lexus import from that spam right well are we do not have any -- currently.
Part of that is because the Prius you -- the -- -- you ran ads.
All right from the previous standard anti TVPs and -- receipt plugin hybrid you're seeing that I really think -- company.
Some are some of consignment inward -- it is nuts.
Hybrids may not behind me Jennifer -- but they definitely are -- -- The new Ford Fusion hybrid one of several versions of the car it's gonna go on its delegates available later this year -- is head of marketing.
Global marketing for the Ford Motor Co.
fusion is coming off a huge here its best year ever as it reaches the end of its her life.
-- -- it over to this one next year.
Community -- -- could -- just pick up where that left off with.
Would like it's upside opportunity to work with you the mid -- -- -- market really captures.
What the American -- fall down -- And this year we sold 240000.
Helpful fusion believe it or not that's up 56%.
Of the last couple years.
It's a couple -- import models like he recorded statement.
And our research shows that you future really cast.
A lot awful and he got a lot you people with the infusion for.
First -- have a car looks but also because if you look.
We have an already -- -- lineups that we 37 miles per gallon from.
Are we also have a hybrid gets 47.
Offered -- you really knocked it out of a part yeah that's that's a big number that just.
A few miles per gallon less fifty.
There's some other hybrids that are much smaller than fifty.
Told giving people you know a really nice size -- car get over fifty home.
That's amazing and we have a plugin.
Cast over -- -- you know.
That's better than the -- -- rating you have really.
Detailed entire operation.
Of the car out parts to be able to go election -- and all that is it eight Chevy Volt competitor or is it going after different pars and I don't know I think.
The customer will decide the good thing for us -- we have -- and energy version -- plugin.
That that runs mostly an all electric.
Like the -- industry huge huge data that regular hybrid and or serving an equal contingent.
To be totally frank.
The cars you know a lot bigger.
Most of those cars -- -- are.
Paul plug in her -- -- -- a small like -- -- -- -- -- PC cards often on the other side.
Think that thing in the real difference between us and hold.
Is that they have a serial.
Hybrid that means that all once you exhaust -- batteries.
The gas engine starts up and post -- When this you get full speed and that really it's a full -- you're basically driving our regular hybrid gas electric hybrid.
And then plugging this kind of global.
Fusion sold this year I think Toyota Camry the best selling car Americans 300000 you can this be.
The best selling -- Americans -- you're aiming for with the future.
Don't think -- Ford Fusion is to be the most hated it's nice that he and will that help us you know -- this year and sales sure we we expect some upside opportunity.
For us what really matters.
Is that people want this car.
That fusion is nice but the word desirable may be better replies to this the return of the accurate in the six super car in concept form.
Negative activity is the head of marketing for -- and -- North America.
-- had a -- of the way for quite some time.
Very exciting for the Acura and.
Absolutely I mean this is such a great halo for -- us.
We have a lot of fans out there that have been questioning.
Our -- -- and our ability to bring great cars to market.
And you know actions speak louder than words and we think we have one big action right here and human aspects and you're going to be developing and building this in the United States and -- that is really the whipped cream and cherry on top of the great story about bringing and that's expect.
Is affected it will be developed here in the United States and it will be built in Ohio why the victim that's.
While accurate is.
Really -- the biggest market for accurate history in the United States so makes perfect sense that is developed and built here.
Hybrid no surprise there probably since I mean I know this is the real trick and real success story for this vehicle.
Is that we're going to be taken -- -- for an.
Concept to a completely different level with the all unique hybrid on the -- -- -- for this.
A lot of people think accurate -- needs a reboot maybe right now is this sort of set the tone for what we'll see from accurate.
And your other models and absolutely we're making a statement here we're making a statement that accurate is a brand and that inspire passion and excitement people.
And we're doing it through this vehicle as well as are other vehicles that we introduced -- the show today.
Our new -- -- in our party export sport utility comes also the new Honda Accord concept.
Probably let's talk more recently it's absolutely and there's a lot of what you'll see the production version and we'll -- -- the constant review board.
And that's another three -- -- resident board is a segment leader.
It's mainstay for Honda it's one of our most successful vehicles in the history of our company.
And we're not disappointing with the direction we're going and that way.
With a brand new -- design.
-- -- much much more fuel efficient engine power train and great safety stories and technology futures.
Slippery than the current model but not a complete departure from the shape little competition in that segment right out.
You think sort of taking.
Conservative -- but not.
Reinventing the wheel is the way to go.
Well it's Matsui and look at it -- this -- is more than just a pretty face our car we've taken a great looking car we're enhancing it making it a little bit better.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- The other guys they have to stand out they can't you can't match us and equality they -- matches and features that can't mattress and value.
And so they have to take some risks and they have to take some steps we don't.
I'd like activity head of marketing for American -- to thanks for talking to us.
