Welcome back -- young voters helped propel President Obama to victory in 2008 but that support seems to be dwindling critics say the president's big government policies have Doug young Americans deeper into debt.
And having a tough time finding jobs says that -- major trouble for his reelection bid Ron Myers from young and this -- foundation.
He joins us now with his perspective rob nice to see this morning.
I think certainly on Clinton because it created this youth misery index that sounds positive.
Explain this force and what exactly are these numbers were looking at here.
Misery index can you can edit it puts together three variables that are really hurting young people right now -- people are taking economic beating.
He makes his youth unemployment which is at seventeen point 4%.
Haven't graduating college that was at 26300.
Dollars and -- and national debt per capita which is that 46000.
900 dollars these three variables -- having a massive mess the terrible affect on young people and really all three of them can be be connected to big government policies.
And so that's what we're trying to do a young America's foundation in the Reagan ranch.
With with unemployment listening to submit.
Ron on that let's -- -- it.
-- specific because you know his critics will say well that's not drugs and Obama's fault you've to got to student loan you leave college you have debt that's not the administration's fault on points two and three.
What are you stated that.
Well for youth unemployment.
Youth unemployment in the last four years since it has government spending binge.
Has gone up precipitously and from.
Faster than any other major demographic.
NC can really point that the big government because when the government spends tons of money government industry.
Doesn't really create jobs young -- because they're heavily unionized -- really seniority dates and so when you have a lot of government spending it doesn't work for young people with college debt.
You know the government has now nationalized college stats and -- subsidizing it for years and if you look at it's really great comparison look at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac compared to what Sallie -- in the final -- have been doing.
For student -- basically they've been highly subsidized and encouraging young people get involved in these loans.
And then leaving them out to dry when they graduate they can't find jobs and so -- And they just you know college costs have been going up.
Twice the rate of inflation and the government's done nothing about that they just keep giving out these laws are basically funding.
Colleges like this -- national then I think it's really clear and -- I mean.
You know many colleges of course private and some republic what can the government do that a step into a private college and say hey -- rates are going up.
I mean you know many people argue that's capitalism.
So while -- -- are well that's why it I mean like I said the whole government loan industry is really what's fueling that's.
And that there are no stands with these loans and a lot of the I mean a lot of a lot of these -- of time because.
These easy loan policies and young people can just -- these lawns of it's easy.
Especially when you can't find a job pushing about the college the youth participation rate is at an all time low.
Young people are giving up on looking for working on back to college graduate school and this is clearly something that's coming from from big government spending from the Obama -- Station's -- -- policies -- I want to ask you about this is a thought this was interest in coming out of the White House who heard reports about this just before Christmas time the -- call.
And yet you have 17%.
Unemployment very high among the youth but the White House though hoping to get some of a youth vote back.
Because of Obama -- many of these folks who are 26 and under who didn't have health care before the White House is hoping that because now these folks now have health care.
They may in fact maybe come out to the polls for President Obama how does that measure up with your your misery index.
-- the a -- restorations support has dropped more precipitously than any president in US history according to I mean it's as long -- -- -- go back.
And that's been 30% his after the inauguration -- -- -- 7% now at 48%.
-- approval and so.
Obviously the Obama care you know that that didn't really work out well as I can work out well for young people because we're really stuck subsidizing the whole system for those of us.
Who aren't going to be on my pants plants yet I can't help much if you don't have a job but you do have some -- carry our product that you -- and we respect to rely on my parents for forever and it's -- That's frankly ridiculous in the summer jobs plus program that they've come out with its -- disingenuous saying that.
There's a 180000.
Jobs out there -- only 70000 unpaid positions just two years ago they -- prosecuting these jobs these unpaid internships.
As illegal thing that they are fundamentally unfair and now they saying hey these are part of our jobs because -- or something we might be.
Happy about and that's.
All right Ron Meyer passionate guy nice to see this morning even before 7 AM eastern time in spring and the passion Ron Meyer thanks for joining us is -- that they shouldn't be.
