Well welcome to the after the special for Wednesday and I'm gonna be joined luckily.
By the folks who were just with me in the last segment of our broadcast -- this is the new March of Dimes ambassador family for 2012.
We have.
Syrian Cellini and chain with struck thank you so much for coming back -- think this is -- your first TV appearances right Karen.
Yep we figured out and they enter in a broadcast show you can see what he's doing right now he's looking at Harvard monitors.
That yup Easter didn't you trying to figure out well I'm on TV and I bet by the end of the year.
Shane Angelina you're all going to be very well versed at this whole thing could get a lot of -- that's.
So tell me how in fact you were chosen as the investor.
And just the fact -- what we had a application process of course and we had been very involved with the merchandise after Karen -- Just by virtue of the corporate team on that I participated went into the work we did we -- the Seattle area ambassador for 2011.
And we were able to meet some of the national folks want -- rigorous application process and and -- big kid for 2012 well.
Well it's got to be an exciting year for all of you and and one of hard work but I know that in a certain sense.
It's painful order paying back for all the work that -- -- times did for you when your son was born premature.
Absolutely I think the research and development.
That was stopped on a few of the drugs that I was given in utero can -- -- lungs and whatnot.
It was beneficial to his survival in his ability to come out breathing when he was born I also think good resource -- that are available to them -- expensive definitely.
-- a pay it forward situation in -- ready to go and have.
Healthy and happy with an idea I get the fact that he's an excited little boy I have a six year old boy at -- -- this is this -- the new call but the lucky that he is here with us how -- cars and business and yeah -- -- I wanna bring you back to when he was born because he was born early 31 weeks why do you know why.
We -- and then today we no one any babies is born prematurely as you know Gretchen and 40% of those cases they don't understand what causes the preterm birth.
We fell into that statistic we will likely never know what -- -- and to come so early -- Let you know where we're very blessed and very fortunate to have things turn out as well as they did for us but it was very very scarier Leon.
As the dad who's going through this whole process that you often times -- focus on the mom because she's the one actually giving birth that.
I can imagine as the observer must have been so incredibly difficult for you to.
If it was incredibly frightening I mean it was the happy -- -- my life and most frightening at the same time which was no roller -- to say at least.
It was also incredibly traumatic because.
Actually need experienced a lot of -- -- and issues as well and she got.
She was got very sick as well with the emergency C section had to do to get -- and safely out I mean her blood pressure dropped and I was wondering actually if I would be doing this alone it was a very scary situation.
And now.
The consequences of his preterm birth initially.
There were some complications.
That -- and he suffered friends -- apnea -- sleep apnea and he would forget to breathe while he was eating.
-- he had a heart murmur he had a brain sensed he had a lot of issues that you know took some time to.
And to resolve even after he left the neonatal intensive care unit.
But even to this but in this day -- -- no correction as a parent you worry every time your child gets sick and it's always in the back of her mind you know as any in this -- because he was so early.
Well now he's five in -- and can try to he has.
But he's just right in line with all of his other peers ES PS he had a normal -- started about eight months of age and you know developmentally and socially and academically so far so good.
And now I know that you just had a chance to go down to Disney World and he said that his favorite ride what was it again.
-- -- Under a road map from thunder mountain railroad roller coaster.
All right.
Well that's one of my favorites their -- I don't do space mountain do you do you do space mountain.
You know that is maybe your dad mom did that we've.
Yeah does not moments ago you know nobody.
I didn't want that moment -- you.
I did I didn't feel so well after doing it but it was a fun fact well I guess you've been through enough thrills with this -- -- What's a little say it's not exactly.
Exact right -- this amount this year you'll be doing a lot of things including the walk that comes up stats they usually in April as -- cracked on all throughout the month different dates though depending on what city you live in.
So people can go to March of Dimes dot org or.
A march march for babies dot org or March of -- dot com.
Okay and they can get more information of where that's happening in their particular city do you know where you'll be to do the -- I see if they believe -- the springtime we're set to be in Texas for the walk at the end of April but we hope to hit more than just one.
Because there are about 900 walks throughout the country.
And so hopefully we can stagger our timing in our travel so that were able to do a few of them this year.
I hope you have a fantastic here is the ambassador family you know it's it's a tremendous amount of work but so rewarding -- -- and thank you so much for giving back your time to this wonderful organization we're appreciative of the organization deterrence and thinks of scary into such a positive experience -- just beautiful.
Karen and Cellini and -- Thanks so much have fun -- New -- okay but -- That's already.
Did I get what do you mean yes good for our -- -- after the show show -- DL tomorrow.
