It's time now for the bias that's where one of our Fox News contributors takes a look.
At how the mainstream media has been not covering an issue of the day.
And oh boy Newsweek magazine right now because they up -- cover.
You might say an article by Andrew Sullivan why our president Obama's critics so.
And take it away.
And I exhibited for a dumb critic I don't know I don't know.
-- to me what's most striking about this as a magazine editor.
It was just a trance.
Apparent effort to get people talking about Newsweek -- the article isn't that interesting -- -- standard issue.
Defense of President Obama as a moderate which is defenders tend to say they put the word dumb.
On the cover it's -- -- -- come on and the water and all the sharks can't help you know devouring it -- are talking about it.
But at the same community do have people who say women I've criticized President Obama -- -- my subscription not boycotting Newsweek.
Well good for them -- I don't think I think Newsweek.
The whole title of the magazine is deeply misleading because it hasn't been a news magazine for a long long time it's basically.
It's magazine opinion sometimes it can be a pretty good one.
But it leans to the left and I think has no.
Credibility anymore as suppose -- objective news magazine.
So I mean your own magazine national review you clearly labeled as an opinion magazine went with a well established -- point of view.
Should Newsweek will be saying.
Something like that went nowhere were an opinion magazine.
Yes they're gonna be more honest but that the thing is there are lots of opinion magazines already in that space and I think this is the deeper problem with Newsweek.
It has this has had this identity crisis for a long time now and the problem is it's really hard to make a weekly newsmagazine.
Work anymore because news is an hourly.
Business and you get all the news constantly for your Twitter stream online and on -- the television so it's really hard to see how you make -- weekly news magazine work anymore and their solution was -- become more opinion it.
What I mean I should I should probably mention I used to work for Newsweek magazine years ago.
You know I'm back in the day I used to really look forward to getting time menus economic to get that perspective the overview the analysis and everything else but like -- -- -- You know we now have blogs we we have so much you don't have to wait.
Until that comes in the mail when the US is already a few days old by that time -- chewed it over the.
And I mean -- the other thing is very disturbing for all of us in the print industry.
Is you don't need to pick up a copy of Newsweek to know anything about this asset if you thought I -- I read most of it and I didn't.
Pick up copy of Newsweek to read it you know you'll see a link to on and other blogs and this is.
The reason why you know all all of us who -- in the magazine business are running a little scared right now.
So you -- we can talk about this -- now although I'm hitting you well off garden that this so bus stop online piracy act would be talking about that.
A little bit later on the idea is that the people who do originate the -- contact.
Newsweek magazine let's say Andrew Sullivan wrote this you don't usually pays him you have originated original content out there and as you say.
I'm fine Newsweek to see you just -- from a link on a blog look yeah isn't that kind of unfair.
Isn't that kind of stealing someone's intellectual property that's on the one side we've heard a lot of arguments on the other side.
Yeah well on this thing as were all pirating ourselves right -- who all publications now put the stuff out for free so it's a very odd model.
-- on the one hand you're asking people to go on the newsstand or subscribe to you and pay actual money.
At the same time you're providing it for free and we're struggling now how how did those two models nasty -- -- how do you make it work.
Because on the one hand of Newsweek didn't provide a free link.
No let's see -- are very few people would see it say you wanted to provide the free content to get it out there but the same time you're undermining your sources of revenue.
Well and you could say well they can monetize the online content they can sell advertisements on BS sides of the article but the real issue that this assault but is trying to address is the fact.
That people are just copy it onto their own sites and in.
-- selling their own ads and profiting when they didn't put any investment into originating.
This content and that's why you know it's called the piracy but on the other side you have.
People saying this is gonna completely changed the Internet and free speech and -- it's way too restrictive.
And it's gonna lead to government control and whatnot what's your opinion house.
Well yeah I have not -- that should -- closely my colleagues who -- this -- much more closely all oppose it so like a little lemon I'll go along on along with them.
Biden and our business and the way we operate in this very -- to you can quote a couple paragraphs -- can't steal the entire article because that is indeed.
Fast and that's -- seems common sense to me.
But that's being abused left -- right I mean but that's not really what's happening attribution is out the window I -- -- -- on Fox News yesterday saying oh you know intellectual property.
That term is obsolete.
You this is no such thing you can't really copyright anything anymore the Internet has changed all that.
And people have to just get over and find different way to profit from there.
But is there any way to.
-- bridge the gap somehow made both sides happy without going too far -- Well I know whenever someone -- -- happens occasionally takes an entire -- review article and Princeton online and we.
Go complain and ask that they take it down this I think there is it and it -- look -- that that's a balancing act and there's a line there but it just taking someone's work in its entirety agonizing as your own.
That's -- -- problematic obviously.
Yeah but right now on your self policing they're talking about government policing and lots of implications there are again and we have a guess talk like that exclusively to sort of ambushed four original crowd -- -- sold an article specifically that he makes Hawaii Obama's critics are dumb.
Is that President Obama has actually done a fantastic job as president.
The economy is picking up.
The anti terrorism acts you know that the death of Osama bin Laden and whatnot it just makes this case that that he's been a great president what say you.
Well I think there's a deep contradiction -- the articles on the one hand he says conservatives are stupid and unreasonable because they say president Obama's moving the country to the last may says.
Obama's critics on the left are stupid and unreasonable but they don't realize that he's moving the country to left so which is at night I think President Obama has within.
The bounds of practical too much as as much as he.
Can has moved the country to lefty hasn't nationalized.
But he got his biggest stimulus is because that he got as big -- health care bill as he could.
And he had his big financial regulatory bill as he -- and then he lost congress OK but it was as much of an effort as he possibly can.
Could undertake -- re practically.
To move the ball.
To the left and -- some people think that's good something people think it's back.
That's what democratic politics are about -- and the big argument about it and the next year in the run up to the election.
We -- you're right that is the interesting argument that he makes is that.
Both for the Republican critics and the far left critics -- -- everybody's daughter anybody who says let me think about President Obama so.
