Fox News alert new questions for GOP presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich.
And reports now that his ex wife Marianne Gingrich shared quote explosive revelations about their marriage.
In an interview with ABC news.
This interview is set to air tonight we are told reportedly that there was a debate inside the news organization about when to air -- they settled on this evening.
And the issue came up or at least the issue of mr.
Gingrich -- Past.
During a town hall in South Carolina just last hour.
My question to you on action -- are asking it but I always saw myself like ever ask you a question as of yet.
I -- qualifier first by saying you -- candidate who truly reflects.
Most of what I personally view and feel.
And I think he articulated in an aggressive and inspiring manner that -- that makes you think at church hill has caught fire I find you generally a very inspiring.
And genuine candidate.
Where I personally.
With regard -- yourself sir is is is is a history of things that me half to show.
Character that some may genuinely feel questionable and I wrestle with that sir I generally do with with an.
-- my my personal.
How are not only -- -- perceive perhaps lapses.
In a personal judgment that -- -- that are perhaps happened in the past.
But how is the voting masses America can proceed and come to grips with that if you are nominee and face -- -- in the fall.
Could you as a candidate and as a gentleman who I respect.
How he'd better -- -- that topic.
Look I think this a decision you have to make -- I've been very open about my life.
Have been very open about mistakes I have made I've been very open about needing to go to god for forgiveness and to seek reconciliation.
-- and I have a wonderful relationship.
We are very close -- two daughters in their sons and their husbands.
However -- closer to -- -- and Robert I am 68 years old.
In -- -- that the end of that let's bring in our power brownouts in the Green is a former president of the women's media center and a Fox News contributor.
Monica Crowley is a radio talk show host and a Fox News contributor.
And -- freedom is the former white house Press Secretary and currently a co host of death by a break here on FNC.
You know -- the viewers are very fired up about this we're getting a lot of emails.
Then -- there's what I think most of them feel like this is not fair to Newt Gingrich based on what I've seen so far but some say look.
One of your pointed out he's been hammering Mitt Romney on character issues with respect to -- And bankrupting companies in in his you know and -- his super pacs allegations.
Weis and his character fair game as well Dana you were in this.
An element of surprise is expected.
I had as a similar thought as described about that but it's one of the viewers saying.
While Gingrich is asking Romney about character issues he even brought up the issue about.
Romney's dog on the roof of the car and -- and what kind of judgment lack of character and moral fiber that -- Taken in order to do -- -- that so.
I don't think it's out of the question to ask about somebody's passed and I thinking -- answers it pretty effectively.
Unlike some people who believe that everyone knows all of these things about making grants so that this is old news and why would ABC even bringing this out there's Esquire article last year it had all this information -- it this -- Old news that.
That's not the case people that a lot of people don't know that -- and voters in South Carolina women in particular probably won't take to this too -- well it is it different to me because we we did a little comparison between the Esquire.
And what we know about what's gonna -- it.
And it seemed to get the stuff about the open marriage I was there and it's not.
This is -- and -- on before and this is a retread of all material but what makes this particularly powerful.
First to say a magazine piece is that she is on camera she's speaking in her own words and people can see the emotion on her face at that.
That packs more of a wallop but I actually think that -- has done a pretty good job given what he has to work with here in terms of his past.
A pretty good job over the years in terms of neutralizing.
This kind of thing where he's -- -- four -- next.
Yes he's been very open about a very messy past he's talked about mistakes that he's made he said that he -- asked.
The appropriate people and his god for forgiveness.
And I also think that by this point -- and and this man is right I think a lot of conservatives have real issues with character because we do think it's critical for president.
But I think a lot of voters by this point because this man has been on the national scene for so long have essentially factored this in the to their consideration if Newt Gingrich as a potential precedent to -- I mean I guess.
Their decision to go and sit down with Mary -- Gingrich at all.
OK is the timing of the release okay two days before the South Carolina primary.
The timing is a little bit suspect I agree with Dana October surprises in the broad sense it that's that's the useful that's to be expected.
I do think -- media outlets should allow in this case some a little bit of time for the candidate to respond.
And putting this out within 24 hours of a very crucial vote.
I think something doesn't smell here but.
Again Gingrich is the guy who said bring it on he isn't he didn't say bring it on just you know -- look he wants to be an open book.
May -- if I was advising him from a PR standpoint I'd say the word open is no longer.
Is this is a good angle and who'll read Esquire to Begin tonight you know into Carolina's public yeah I mean she says he wanted to have an open marriage -- that if you look at the context it seems that what he was really asking for with permission to have this other woman in his life -- at it it's like you -- -- I -- divorce and he didn't wanna -- vocalists and I think the words -- and -- and Marianne Gingrich's words and that -- as I recall was you.
Asked me to accept the affair yeah.
And I think there's another piece here -- in the Washington Post has an article today about hypocrisy.
Which is that when he was the speaker of the house.
He was working in leading the efforts to impeach President Clinton.
For having lied about having an affair with a younger political staffer.
While he himself at the time was having an affair.
With the younger political -- lying under -- is a different you know but that's -- this luncheon at Gingrich made -- I think a lot of people think that that is pretty at this stage without ever.
Just to pick up on that point and I think it's important to clarify that yes that got hypocrisy but certainly true at the time.
But what Gingrich did politically which was very Smart since 9498.
He's -- -- from a family values platform he's backed away from sort of presenting himself.
As the epitome of a good values and he no longer really talks about how you make of the fact I mean.
If it is we -- with Herman Cain.
You know women started coming out of the woodwork saying I had an affair with him all right this had this experience with him and news organizations reported on that -- mean that was news right.
This is this news it's something that is.
More than a decade old.
It's in -- she's been out there.
So what -- the timing of it you know to reach out now right before you know he's going into a critical he said it's all or nothing in South Carolina.
To to do the in arena and then to air it now I was just.
That's as an -- pick up on that point that you made him because I'd we don't know if ABC actually held on his interview for this opportune moment.
Or maybe Marianne Gingrich right did -- sign -- -- signing images.
Because of this -- to make a point if it's an ABC thing why didn't they present this when he was surging and Iowa or why did I present this when he first announced -- -- candidate.
It it is and it -- -- just a Lil bit sunny here to me.
And I mean you have to also look at how much he has been attacked from conservative commentators from the Republican establishment.
There is this I feel just ground -- of we have to stop this man and I tracks.
However that was negotiated with ABC news who know the dilemma that unless you wanna -- up act laps to.
I mean we're assuming that this -- -- negative effect on the Gingrich campaign people -- rallied to support remember that you Cambridge was pretty much the only candidate in every debate -- you grab one of those debates -- a couple of them.
You know that -- -- only GOP presidential candidate who was routinely pounding the mainstream media for their bias and it cuts it gets the conservative base I'll -- my -- And I I got to -- -- he seems to not want to address it directly and he seems to be referring people to a statement by his two daughters court daughters of his first marriage out of Marianne Gingrich who.
To have said this you know this isn't really right and -- people make mistakes and we bear no ill will against Marion but.
Is that the way to handle -- -- sort of let the daughters from another marriage come out.
It's not how I would advise -- Alina what would you say I would -- it and it just -- you tell every candidate you want full transparency but just go out and answer it.
Because if he doesn't he's gonna continue to dog came over and that that questioner at the town hall was very gentle yet you he's not necessarily Annie get gentle question -- -- also song you introduce his family in a much more than dramatic way as he was getting up there.
He he probably is addressing it.
In that way but at the end of the day who really looks at our presidents and thinks how many of them happened to -- lights out.
I don't know it's -- I mean every American every person on this earth has sinned and need to see you know it's a deal breaker for anybody who wants to run for office he's been open about it and -- -- I think -- you know I'm more worried about what he's had about capitalism last week when he came to.
Tommy and I are about an affair and reach out to me whatever crisis explodes it's never really about the actual crisis it's how the candidate to cover Atlanta crisis ladies thank you also much thinking pleasures -- tonight.
Right -- it is what.
