-- Republican presidential campaigns of course now shifting from South Carolina to Florida.

That's State's primary is up next on the election calendar -- -- 31 the primary in this battleground state is very different from primaries and caucuses that come before.

So what does it take to win in Florida let's ask a man who knows.

Congressman Alan west who has yet to endorse anyone in the race congressman thanks for joining us today.

It's a pleasure to be with -- senator are you -- I'm very that I have to know that -- said you didn't want to endorse in this race because he didn't wanna get into the food fight.

Tell us what's in that and have you changed your mind.

Well I think that it's important to allow this process to play out and to allow the people all across the country there -- voting in this GOP primary.

For them to be the decider is especially down in Florida so I'm not looking at endorse and they -- now continue to pay attention.

To -- one of the candidates and not pay attention to the debates.

And then when the eventual nominee stuff for -- be behind that person a 110%.

All right let me ask you this then you say you're gonna watch the debates this week it seems like they had a huge impact on voters in South Carolina.

How much difference will they make to you and have you made up your mind at least personally do you think you're gonna vote for.

Well I think it is you know pretty much so for me come down to a two person contests right now between.

Former speaker Newt Gingrich -- governor Mitt Romney.

I think that they are clearly shown themselves as they kind of be that the two front runners in this contest of the final four.

And yes debates do matter and I think what we saw this past week was another very good performance by the speaker on the debate stage.

But as well we saw him come out and do some of the things that I think a lot of people wanted to see and that's stand up against the the liberal media -- and he took the -- Did it his confrontation with Juan Williams and also -- John king of CNN.

Are right Florida obviously very diverse state having grown up there -- know that you know it's urban it's overall there are farms there -- cities there out all of all kinds of different nationalities you have young people which you've got a lot of seniors as well who care about things like -- security and Medicaid.

A what do you think -- made -- top issues that Florida voters will consider and picking someone.

Well I think that when you look at floors before -- state of the union as you say it.

Northern Florida all the way down to our South Florida where I am here in -- keys.

Are totally different very diverse state.

So they're going to be a different you know the situation is forcing issues is still going to be about the economy is -- going to be about.

You know said the conditions with the right type of tax regulatory policies to spur on our small business and job growth.

It really gets down to who was going to be the one to could talk about economic freedom.

For America's -- working families -- yourself in Florida.

But also you have to talk about a vision for how do we -- reformer repair Medicare Social Security.

We've got us problem with fraud waste and abuse here we know that the actuators have said that Medicare is going to go bankrupt within the next eight to nine years and you're gonna see a degradation of Social Security benefits about five or six years after that so we're looking for so -- -- has a plan.

Of action to get this economy turned around but also we're concerned about national security because just last week we have president mark what about what damage.

Visiting Cuba and Cuba is also us -- China come in with or drilling.

-- -- -- -- Outlook thing you bring up this and international issues so I want to ask you about some comments that you made you so when it comes to dealing with Iran do you think this president is telegraphing that we are weak.

And if you were in the White House the message you would want to send to Iran is game on.

Where we go from here.

Well I think one of the most important things is to show me your strength in your mind I mean Ronald Reagan said -- -- stress.

When I look at last week the fact that we council a one of the largest joint military exercise we want to have within Israel those that missile defense exercise.

Because we didn't want to offend your audience and then 22 days later we found out that there was a secret letter sent to the supreme leader.

Talking about direct make negotiations and talks.

Which also -- trying to do the same with the Taliban would talk about release in five to six Afghan Taliban leaders.

We have to show strength -- this enemy this adversary Iran has been the enemy of the United States ever sense we had our hostages that were taken.

-- -- the time to telegraph weakness.

All right congressman thank you both for your service in the military and now for on Capitol Hill we'll see you back here in Washington shortly.
