And it was a big weekend for the former speaker of the house Newt Gingrich who won the South Carolina primary by a double digit margin now governor Mitt Romney came in second place.
Followed by senator Rick Santorum and congressman Ron Paul but the battle for the nomination is just getting started as the candidates now set their sights on Florida.
And ahead of that critical primary contests -- former speaker is no longer simply calling his top rival a moderate.
He's now labeling governor Romney as a liberal take a look.
I think just south Carolinians were the first state to really understand how liberal.
Governor Romney's record was as the governor of Massachusetts and I think there was and he lost.
I think probably fifteen or twenty points over the course of the two weeks is people Begin to realize.
That he'd been pro choice pro gun control.
Been pro tax increase in a whole range of areas that despite his advertising and in and in his.
You know pretending.
It's clear that he was way to -- -- south Carolinians.
The Romney campaign is responding to the former -- attacks by unleashing a brutal -- ad that criticizes Gingrich's involvement with the mortgage giant Freddie Mac watch this.
Well Florida families who lost everything in the housing crisis Newt Gingrich cash.
Gingrich was paid over one point six million dollars by this.
Agency that helped create the crisis and I'll -- -- high -- historian and historian.
Solutions for ethics violations.
Gingrich resigned from congress in disgrace.
-- -- cash do you visit DC and -- these new wins.
This guy I would be very happy.
I'm Mitt Romney and I approve this message.
And joining me now -- analysis former Alaska governor Fox News contributor Sarah Palin governor welcome back.
Hey thanks so much so -- -- tells us that Fred Thompson's gonna endorse somebody tonight I wish you good to me a little bit of a hint there because that track.
That's going to be some big news he brings a different demographic as an audience to this whole primary process well you know I know you haven't gotten to the point point of endorsing yet -- you wanna make some news tonight.
But made on the back where we started last week and when what I asked you if you were voting in Florida now you saw the results -- -- South Carolina.
How would you vote in Florida.
Well I and still think that my endorsement probably isn't worth a hill of beans -- may be as my advice but my advice to Florida voters would be.
Didn't it ask themselves which candidate is able to.
-- -- recapture that American exceptional -- -- that we all benefited from under Ronald Reagan who wants to go back to those days of success under Ronald Reagan.
And who supported and was shaped by Ronald Reagan's economic policies and who isn't remember under Ronald Reagan.
He was able to enact.
-- fiscal policies it really invigorated growth and and -- investment in domestic gas markets and and he.
You don't have to listen to me as an advisor on on.
Who perhaps that would be taped it.
Say wanna Ronald Reagan's economic gurus album art -- hear what he has to say as many of us quote the laugh first principle.
The Laffer Curve how.
Government can actually pay it's obligations by reducing tax rates easier than what we see today with high tax rates.
-- who shaped by an art Laffer and who wants to recapture that go back to that who doesn't fully answer at -- I believe the supporting Gingrich right.
Perhaps he has I would ask bill that that voters pay close attention to that experience that one would have.
Catholic candidates -- -- having served in an official capacities in the past.
What shape that we know what shaped Barack Obama that's you know.
Bill Ayers and Jeremiah Wright I think -- -- and other -- kids throughout history who had more socialist ideas big centralized government planning ideas that Barack Obama now.
Throws down our throat we know shaped him now on the GOP's site.
Who and what shaped our candidates cast your vote according to what that -- was -- That bit -- -- then I can go back if I had oppress you and and I don't wanna I'm not impressive to Karl give it just give me if you.
Had to decide if you -- in Florida.
Now the we've gone through Iowa New Hampshire South Carolina.
And obviously this election matters because I think that the future in the direction the country.
It we have to dramatically different visions between conservative vision that a Barack Obama's.
You said last time you want in the race the vetting to continue to get the cast your vote in Florida who would have -- I want that -- to continue shining and I'm not going to endorse tonight because -- the candidate that has to -- you know you can have it every endorsement in the world that -- would ever dream of as a candidate and it's not going to do your whole -- but the good if you can't produced not only in the debates but.
According to your experience it again according to what your core foundations are -- An -- according to the -- that you have.
And then today you're not I'm flip flopping around like how they get ready to be club but you are you have core convictions.
You know what you're talking about -- the experience in the record to prove it.
That makes so much more of a difference a positive difference in any endorsement certainly.
An endorsement from meet.
I in the next segment on talk at length about the -- about how heated this has become.
You took issue with the comments by Governor Christie when he was on the Meet the Press this weekend.
And he said that knew was an embarrassment at times to the party.
I interviewed -- on radio earlier today -- answer was well was -- an embarrassment to the party well and when I helped lead the Gingrich revolution.
And help create a majority for the first time in forty years and welfare for reform was -- an embarrassment he went -- a whole litany.
Of answers.
And get your critical of Governor Christie to hearing what -- critical what -- Because he played right into that.
The leftist media's hands say that hosts and have that show it Chris Christie was on wanna him to say that it GOP candidate with an embarrassment to the party and Chris Christie just played right into it we're sick of the games -- the media plays we're sick of the media cramming down our throats to a candidate.
And who our candidate that is going to be where we're independent voters and despite that filter of the media we're going to make up our own minds or comment like that from Chris Christie who I mean -- want to throw stones -- happen.
I didn't probably every other GOP.
It -- -- not.
High profile but GOP player I guess has no doubt embarrass the party -- Chris Christie I'm sure with some of his actions in the past like -- -- -- A state owned helicopter to his kids ball game you know maybe some people thought that was kind of embarrassing but.
I think it it was just unfortunate that Chris Christie threw that out there -- what he did was just produce an ad for the Obama campaign.
Come general election times I wouldn't come back the minister.
