Welcome back it's a national school choice week did you know that in the fight for the future of education is game on for instance.
In that city of Chicago.
Shorter school days -- performance have not stopped union leaders like Karen Lewis from demonizing efforts to reform the system there.
That and continue to welcome back we'll get back but yeah.
I don't know I'm not.
Yeah big big big.
Let's -- find those people joining us right now is one -- Fox News contributor.
He's the host of a new documentary which is online it's all about education is called the tale of two missions -- -- by clicking on our FOX & Friends website.
After the program weren't you one.
Good morning through.
We're gonna get to.
You know some important stuff but first to put -- in perspective we've got some graphics to show just exactly what is going on there in Chicago.
The average hurt the -- average household income.
In Chicago look at that 50000 dollars.
The average teacher.
Make 74000 the average administrator makes a 120000.
Dollars a year.
And here's the kicker the graduation rate in Chicago.
About half they spend all that money and yet one it's not.
Work and you know Steve I don't have any objection to paying good teachers and good administrators top dollars we want those people teaching our children.
The problem comes when you get locked into all this bureaucratic union's structure that's not about educating children that's why the film is called two missions.
But you know.
Parents and kids have it's very clear it's great race.
But the unions seem to have a message animation that's all about well let's protect teachers who've been here the longest let's get those pay us those salaries up.
Let's put it more bureaucrats and more administration.
And I think it's very clear these are two separate missions.
And never the Twain shall meet it's not helping our children especially not helping kids.
In big city.
Urban school districts -- mostly minority populations those kids are absolutely.
Coming out on the wrong end of the stick in this two missions that divide.
Right I want I -- you got a real problem with how the unions operate regarding the schools you got a real problem with tenure.
But there is an alternative and there in Chicago there's a school called the noble street charter college prep school.
That actually we just off only 56%.
Graduate from the public schools.
Of the kids who go to that school.
And it's tough to get to -- schools listen to this kid what he goes through to get to school to get a good education.
I think 87 of us out to the Red Line -- to -- -- -- -- curtains they.
-- particularly to -- content.
While you rivers remembered you forget it's evolved -- but that was the blessings not -- all of the black.
Okay -- there's a lot of effort it's a blessing but why did those schools work in the public schools don't in Chicago.
Oh gosh you know Steve I wish I could take you over there what you see is that.
They have longer school days they have longer school years these are things that the democratic mayor to Colorado Maine has been pushing the teachers' union for.
They bite institute and tooth and -- even though is willing to pay them more money to do it.
They're opposed to the very things that make noble college prep work.
And you see there they don't have all these regulations if you get a bad teacher when it's not working.
Well it's just like person doesn't work in any other company -- find a way to let them go so what we're seeing here is that.
People across partisan -- every Wednesday.
Has got to be key if we hear about -- and that's why my feeling is.
If you care about education in this country while give parents the power Steve because parents care about their kids an -- can make a choice.
As to whether or not the school is really -- their kids -- really educate their kids.
Then parents will be able to find the best school for their children so I think charter schools vouchers tax write anything.
That increases the power of the parent to make a choice for their child would help -- the breakthrough.
What now with the status quo instead as well for both children and except.
Well the kids our future or only as good as our kids in school we gotta do something.
Folks check out one special it is terrific its online go to FOX & Friends economic you'll see -- logo for his documentary a a tale of two missions.
